Flomax and prostate

Common Questions and Answers about Flomax and prostate

flomax

Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar m tn I did not associate it with flomax until recently. Is it harmful if I stop taking the flomax and is this the cause of my retro? This discussion is related to Retrograde Ejaculation from Flomax......permanent or not?.
1580703 tn?1651904887 the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far? I'm still not cured of the pelvic pain on Flomax+cipro after a few days it is labeled as relaxing the bladder neck and prostate muscles but it has these strength loss problems.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar m tn maybe Flomax only helps if you have a UTI though to better flush infected urine out? it seems though that the semen will empty into the bladder then and be flushed out of your system instead of going to the urethra so I don't know if that is good or not? I've read of long term loss of STRENGTH on Flomax and possible sexual dysfunction.
Avatar m tn Well the Prostatitis recurred and coens and goes… I heard about the belt… reluctant to do the flomax hence the side effects…. It really does sucks….
Avatar n tn Causes of retrograde ejaculation include diabetes, damage or injury to the prostate such as due to prostate surgery, and certain medications, such as alpha blockers used to treat enlarged prostate. Surgical removal of the prostate (prostatectomy). Surgical removal of the bladder (cystectomy). Radiation therapy directed at the pelvic area, such as for prostate cancer." Avatar m tn The urge frequency was sometimes unbearable!! Anyhow started on Flomax, and in just one day noticed the frequency (6-8x day to 4x) and urgency diminished. If no BPH...how is the Flomax working??? Thanks!
Avatar n tn 5 days on the Levaquin the penis tip burning went away but testicle pain remained. I finished the levaquin and went back to PCP she examined again and said prostate still inflamed and sent me to a Uro. Visit with URO was routine, said that he had no doubt that I had prostatitis and that the penis tip burning was a sure sign, he did exam said inflamed. Put me on flomax, no acidic foods or drinks for 30 days. I followed 30 days with little improvement.
Avatar m tn For me it started around the age of 24 and I still have it at 44 now. If the prostate is obstructed than FloMax dialates the prostate. When you stop the FloMax your symptoms of weak urine flow and penis, scrotum and rectal pain will return. You might want to discuss the permanent use of FloMax with your doctor or a urologist. Trust me it is better to be on FloMax than to have the TURP to deal with the prostate.
Avatar n tn Yes, prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. It seems to be getting easier to urinate, and I've noticed that flomax is sometimes proscribed for prostate issues, so perhaps doubling my dosage on that was a good idea.
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar n tn 2018 started having pelvic discomfort, thigh discomfort, back discomfort, frequent urinating. Age 52. Doctor put me on Flomax and things subsided. I had CT scan and nothing abnormal. PSA’s are low .4 and .5. Rectal exam, slightly larger than normal but no other abnormalities. As of today I am having back and thigh pain.
Avatar n tn i went to my dr. today and was told i had an enlarged prostate. i am 43 and am worried. my dad has prostate cancer. they took blood to check psa levels. i was wandering if anybody else on here had or has an enlarged prostate around my age and what may cause this condition. std related, or other infection. i appreciate any help and thank you in advance..
Avatar m tn So far I have taken Cipro (two rounds; 10 days and 21 days), Bactrim (14 days), and Flomax throughout all without much benefit. I am supposed to have a semen culture done in a week to see exactly what the bacteria is. My question is if anyone has had a bad case of prostatitis and urithritis and what the outcome was? Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn When you have BPH, the flow from the bladder and prostate are greatly restricted and usually force the ejaculate into the bladder. Flomax helps reduce the size of the prostate and permits freer flowing urine. If you discontinue use of Flomax, your voiding would be more difficult and leave residuals in your bladder setting you up for some ugly uti's in the future and you would still have a retrograde ejaculation.
Avatar m tn t think it was prostatitis but maybe IC. Now I have 9 docs saying prostate issue and 1 saying potential bladder issue. My urology appointment isn't for another week. I started the Flomax and it has helped a bit. The symptoms now: Urgency and frequency, no pain, 6-7 voids per day, none at night. when stimulated sexually pain between the legs/rectum that feels like the prostate. Sometimes some sensitivity in the testicles but no pain. during now is about a week. Not sure what it is.
Avatar m tn If you take Cialis every other day it will greatly improve the quality of your erections and relax your prostate gland as well. If after this you still can't have intercourse then you might consider Testosterone Therapy although it may not come to this.
Avatar m tn I have a very good friend who has an enlarged prostate and he takes a medication called "Flomax". This seems to help him a lot. Maybe mention it to your doctor as a possibility for you----- or change doctors! It's your life we are talking about here and the quality of your life. There is no reason for needless suffering in my opinion.
Avatar m tn Had radiation for prostate cancer which worked. PSA virtually undetectable. Does Flomax interfere with Viagra?
Avatar m tn In animal models, it was shown to affect testes size and shape. It very well could be the flomax. But worth it to reduce the prostate. Any ejaculation issues?
Avatar m tn Can I take effexor with Flomax and vesicare as I had anxiety disorder and use to take effexor before but stopped it about 1 year back. Now I am having a lot more anxiety due to my present condition. After stopping the Vesicar I am feeling the urge to urine all the time and i have to use to wash room every hour. Should I start 5mmg Vesicare again?
Avatar n tn I am considering the possibility that there are two problems. One is a problem with the prostate which is increased in size and is causing obstruction in flow. The other problem is on the bladder, which may be unable to maintain holding urine, so occasionally you wet the bed. It is simpler to think that the root of the problem would be the obstruction of flow, and so removal of the obstruction would solve everything. The Flomax is aimed at reducing the size of the prostate.
