1183666 tn?1274275146 So, JESSiCA, we meet again! I'm glad to hear you're involved with a partner and a project, but I do understand your fear of public speaking. I'm positive the vast majority of us would rather streak through Wal Mart than get up in front of a group of people. (Would anybody notice us in Wal Mart? Somehow I think we'd just "blend!") I suppose there are a number of things you could try before it was your turn to be on stage.
Avatar m tn As BeeFree stated, it is very normal to feel anxious when we have to speak in front of a group of strangers. I'm sure that most people feel anxiety to some extent when put in that position. There are self-help books available that will teach you many tips and tricks to deal with this anxiety. If possible, take a Public Speaking class.........I did and it was the best thing I'd done for myself at that time.
Avatar f tn many people have a fear of public speaking. And remember anxiety and panic can come at the most inoppertune times even if we have previously been through the exact same experience panic free time after time. I also agree that you should not expect perfection and not be too hard on yourself. Just the fact that you get up there is something that you should give yourself credit for; that is no easy feat to accomplish in my opinion. Do you have other social situations that you get anxious in?

Avatar m tn Norco I use to love Public speaking because it scared the **** out of me, gave me that fear buzz, loved being afraid ( weird ) Then with Mr Norco no fear whatsoever, wasn't as much fun. Now I'm just unsure and uncomfortable, no self confidence. This time the fear is not fun. I guess I'm just a Day 18 recovering addict, asking for help once again.... Don't think I'll put the pills in my pocket tonight.. But then again I might still need that out....
Avatar f tn If your problem is you are "too" shy when dealing with one or more people, I suggest is isn't a drug that you need. Rather you need help in facing this shyness and beating it down. This can/must be started in small steps. Pick something simple, like one situation that doesn't involve lots of people like public speaking, and condition yourself to deal with it. A good one would be talking with one other person who makes you nervous or otherwise troubled.
Avatar f tn You are both suffering from a very common phobia. Fear of the dark goes back to the dawn of man and since that time, millions of people have fought it all there lives. Please do not berate yourselves for this phobia or think you are silly for being afraid of the dark at your age. Our phobias are ours to own and suffer with as long as we do nothing about them. Since both of you have stated that your phobia is now interfering with your lives, it's time to take the bull by the horns!
Avatar f tn d probably start by seeing a therapist or other professional who specializes in treating this problem, or maybe taking a public speaking course and practicing until you lose your fear of it. Or learning some CBT type techniques of relaxation and demystifying the situation. There are herbs and other amino acids, such as taurine, that can also be helpful, though any relaxation supplement or medication can cause sedation.
Avatar f tn Fear of heights in all its forms is, I believe, the 2d most common phobia (the first is fear of speaking in public, officially, but I'm guessing more people confront heights than the need to speak in public so I'm guessing heights might be the most common fear). I have this phobia, but didn't have it until I got a full-blown anxiety disorder. If this is your only phobia, good; if you have several and are anxious about a lot of things, harder.
Avatar f tn Heartland Institute - Opposied to the the Kyoto protocol , supports the privatization of public services;opposes tobacco control measure such as tobacco tax increases and denies the health effects of second-hand smoke; and it promotes the deregulation of health care insurance, hosts PolicyBot, a data base containing 22,000 documents from 350 U.S. right-wing think tanks and advocacy groups. There's more but I think this is enough proof of bias.

Avatar f tn I think it came about as sort of a defense mechanism, as I was pushing myself to be more sociable i kind of developed depersonalization as a shield to anything at all bad that could happen when interacting with other people. I fear awkwardness, public speaking, etc. I am glad i pushed myself because I do love my friends even more now that I hang out with them outside of school ( never did before ). Is there anything I can do to make this depersonalization go away?
Avatar m tn I tried not to do that, and it eventually leads to s strong urge to throw up, often spitting out mucus and saliva in toilet. Now I am afraid of public places, even visiting shopping malls or cinema is terrifying (unless I am near to toilet). Besides that, I feel that this throwing up issue has also somehow link itself to my fears. This means that when I am in the state of fear/anxiety (eg.
Avatar f tn Public speaking is the most common phobia. You can try to deal with it either by seeking anxiety therapy or you can try a speechmaking class, like toastmasters, that might help you get used to and over this fear.
Avatar f tn Will taking a small amount of Xanax help with calming nerves for public speaking? Taking a small amount like 0.25 ?
1216899 tn?1288570325 There have been a lot of questions and posts lately about Optic Neuritis, I have a few questions of my own. I had an MRI last week and am going in for an evoked potentials test tomorrow, for ON. I was wondering what ON feels like to some of you, as I am curious. My symptoms really are noticeable when I get warmed up. To me, my eye feels like it is under some pressure. It hurts to move it back and forth, and I can not quiet look all the way to the left.
Avatar f tn I am a graduate student. I have a fear of public speaking and a stage/performance fear when I speak in front of new people or students of my class. A few of my classes require that I give powerpoint presentations in front of the class. When I am on the spot, my voice and hands become shaky - I sometimes lose concentration to the point that I cannot get words out of my mouth even though I go in front of the class very well prepared.
Avatar f tn I'm in therapy I still have these thoughts I don't understand I was so normal a year ago. I did extreme sports all the time wasn't afraid of public. Now I'm afraid of a lot of things.
Avatar f tn Everyone has things that bother them. Sometimes when movement like a swing bothers you it can be an inner ear imbalance or just a fear of losing control. It doesn't mean you have an anxiety problem or that you don't have one. The question for that is, do you feel anxious about nothing or phobias about a lot of things, or are there just a couple of things you don't like?
Avatar m tn If Beta blockers help with anxiety why does my heart races, voice and hand still shake in public activities like speaking and suturing infront of my classmates. Will constant racing of my heart in public activity cause the hypertrophy to increase.
Avatar n tn and it is impossible to have a negative HIV test a couple weeks after start of symptoms of a new HIV infeciton. From a medical or risk standpoint, you didn't need testing at all. If your 5 week test was a duo or "4th generation" blood test, it is conclusive. If it was a standalone antibody test, it's at least 95% reliable. It's up to you whether you would like still more reassuarnce beyond my advice. If so, have another antibody test in a few weeks.
Avatar m tn You are most definitely not alone in your fear of public speaking. If I'm not mistaken, I think it's at the top of the list for people's worst fears. If I get called upon to speak to a group of people, I can feel my face turn beet red, I start to sweat like a hog with no waller to wallow in, I KNOW I'm about to wet my knickers and I shake like I've got ants in my pants, which would be my wet knickers!
Avatar m tn Have you ever considered counseling or maybe even groups that help with public speaking? Many people are uncomfortable in some social settings, but you can definitely confront your fear...keep us posted!
Avatar n tn I had unprotected oral sex. He says hes doesn't have anything but I'm still a bit worried. I have tried to call around to every place I could think of except a family doctor ... even the local public health center and they said they don't do throat swabs for Oral Gonorrhea. This is my primary concern. I feel that the person who I gave oral to is clean but he always comes across as a ladies man. Were also a bit older too ...
Avatar f tn The best time ov day 2 do a test it 1st mornin urine and if u have done another test l8r on in the day and drank a lot it can dilute the hcg in ur system wait until mornin and take another keep us posted plz x
Avatar m tn If the test gets into positive, you'll be referred to a confirmative test called Western Blot. Its result will say whether the previous test result was false or true positive. But oral sex is no HIV risk, no matter what.
