I was switched to Famvir and that has still not cleared it. I am wondering if I am maybe not respondinig to anti-virals and if my outbreak may improve if I go off of them. I know this may sound crazy, but I am doing everything else right (diet, managing stress, etc) is it possible to be immune to anti-virals and that the drug I am thinking is making it better is actually making it worse?

My dermatologist doctor diagnosed said it looks like Herpes or HPV, but as culture test is not available he said to wait for 3month blood test.
I am actually confused whether to put this question in HPV or Herpes forum as my doctor cannot able to confirm but he is sure it is either Herpes or HPV.
I know its silly to ask what my symptom look a like but can you please advise from I said what does it sound like(Herpes or HPV)?

t tried was anti viral meds for herpes and I had to plead with the first doctor to try it who took a swab of the affected area and prescribed 7 day course of Famvir. The symptoms did improve somewhat and got worse when the meds finished. The swab came back negative and he said he couldn't prescribe any more without a positive test result. I was starting to get irritation in both eyes and the doctor said it was an allergic reaction and prescribed some drops.
I was diagnosed with HSV-2 a few years ago and recently had an outbreak. While the outbreak was typical and has cleared up using famvir, it was in a place I hadn't had it before. The outbreak was on the bottom of the Frenulum of my penis (skin that joins the head to the shaft). During the outbreak I was paying alot of attention to that area as I just wanted the outbreak to clear up.
Did you tested for HHV 6 ??
It is know to cause neuropathic symtoms.

by this point i have had what looks to be like blisters and quite alot of pain when i urinate and masturbate.
I was swabbed and had another blood test, I came back negative for everything AGAIN. (All STDS, HAV, HPV, bacterial infection and yeast infection-all negative.) My boyfriend had already tested positive for HSV 1. Is it possible I really don't have herpes? Or do I and it won't show up on tests? We've been involved sexually for over 6 months now, kissing, oral sex, and vaginal sex, all unprotected. He has never had an outbreak and I constantly do.
My doctor said its very unusual to have outbreaks all the time on medication. She has prescribed Famvir for me now. Can you tell me if this is normal?
In the following years (2007-2009) i have only had 3-4 outbreaks. when i get an outbreak i use famvir, 2 tablets at first then 1 every 12 hours for 3 doses. these always worked quickly and the outbreaks were never severe and didn't last longer than a week or so start to finish.
In the last 2 weeks (jan 2010) i had a small outbreak that i immediately took my usual dose of famvir for and it cleared up, almost totally within 5-7 days.

Taking this in mind what would be considered an effective suppresive therapy?
It should've been 2 500mg famvir tablets to take 2x/day for 1 day. Is that what you were given or just 1 500mg pill?
d like for us to be able to have oral sex, but not if it will further spread the virus. We are both taking Famvir daily and almost never have outbreaks. I also know that it is possible to spread the virus without an outbreak. Please don't suggest condoms or dental dams - I'd rather just skip it altogether. Also, I know that prophylactics often don't protect against spreading the virus.
i doubt you have developed a tolerance for famvir. I believe cortisone can affect the immune system, and it's very probable that it's causing an ob. The sores in your mouth may be cankers, which are related to stress and immune system overload.
Talk to your doc and see if you can get off that cortisone!
i know that valtrex and famvir are different family of anti-viral's. has anyone had poor results with valtrex and had to change to famvir? i don't seem to be responding to valtrex or acyclovir so i might change.
Has anyone had better results with Famvir? And does it help suppress transmission like Valtrex does? My Dr thinks the Valtrex might be causing my hair loss so I am switching....
Also my doctor prescribed famvir but I don't have genital herpes. Can Famvir help with penis pain?
