Avatar n tn Do you know of a substitute pessary for Vagifem or Ortho-Gynest as these seem to be discontinued locally.
Avatar f tn I would think dose timing would be more of an issue with a straight estradiol product than Premarin but that would be worth trying if you take it at night. Are you also taking something to protect your uterus or did you have a hysterectomy? Some women find that using some progesterone can help with sleep. I took it a few nights a week to help me sleep but didn't need it once I got the right form and dose of estrogen in my system.
Avatar m tn There is estrogen-only HRT and combined (estrogen plus progestin or progesterone) HRT. Women who have a uterus who take HRT must take progestin or progesterone if they take estrogen in order to protect their uterine lining from the proliferative effects of estrogen. Estrogen is not associated with an increased risk of any type of cancer (except endometrial/uterine).

718868 tn?1230730029 Hello. I am new to this site but wanted to seek a support system on something I'm dealing with. I am 26 years old and after having my daughter in 2003, I had to have a hysterectomy due to complications from endometriosis after going into labor. I was left with 1 ovary which for sometime hasn't been working properly. I'm currently taking Premarin 1.25 mg for my hormonal issues but it isn't helping very much.
Avatar f tn Maybe Premarin is not a good fit for you since you still have (insane) hot flashes. Have you tried any other types of estrogen such as a gel, patch, or the estradiol tablet (generic Estrace)? I had to switch HRT's because the first one I was prescribed left me with too many low E symptoms.
Avatar n tn t need the progesterone and can take estrogen only (Premarin vs. Prempro or even the very economical generic estradiol tablets). I'm also 63 and have been on estradiol since having a hysterectomy at age 49. I worry about not being able to get a prescription as I get older.
Avatar f tn Ask him about using a vaginal estrogen cream instead of a pill. Or even about using the estradiol vaginally.
Avatar m tn After watching this episode, I promptly made an appointment with my family doctor to discuss other HRT options. I stopped taking my Premarin, and upon my request for a safer or natural hormone, she prescribed estradiol .05 once a week patch, just recently (last week) added Prometrium, 200 mg. daily. My health/sanity issues have not changed.
Avatar f tn They had given me after surgery some samples of different strengths of Premarin, which seemed if anything to make matters WORSE. So my local family doc called in estradiol 0.025mg/day 7-day patches. Did not help at all, so then they called in a "bio-identical" estradiol 0.05mg/day patch to be changed every 3 days. This almost immediately brought relief, though still had some hot flashes (I can get through those, but NOT feeling like I'm losing my mind!).
Avatar f tn Hi Janice, I feel your frustration. I can offer some thoughts on this. This is complicated, though... that's for sure. I hope that when the next generation enters the menopause years information about all of this will be less complicated and more helpful. I have had quite a journey myself since 2000 when I had a radical hysterectomy and went into surgical menopause in a day. I am assuming that you mean you are on Premarin. If I am wrong, I apologize.
Avatar f tn I am scheduled to have a hysterectomy soon. The doctor wants to take my ovaries. My mom and both of her sisters have had hysterectomy's. My mother and 1 aunt had early onset of Alzheimers. both took premarin. I have read and studied that HRT's like premarin have a high risk of dementia and heart disease? since my dad had heart disease and most of his siblings and family have had heart problems I am worried. I have Endometrosis and also prolapsed Uteris.
Avatar f tn about fourteen years ago i had a complete hysrectomy and was on either premarin or estratest...i quit taking hormones about 8 years ago...since then i have had severe derpession and anxiety vaginal dryness,no intrest in sex recently(i think that could be cause by the antidepressant im on) my dr put me on the estradiol patch low dose..will it help me any?I have no energy and im sick of the depression and anxiety i have no reason to, be this way i have a perfectly good life...
Avatar n tn I am not sure on the med you are on - but is sounds very similiar to the two I am reading about. Premarin, Provera. The main ingredient is Premarin which is short - from my reading of pregnant mares. This is a horse hormone that is labeled as equillin. There are no traces of this hormone equillin in the table of human hormones. The second component in Prempro is called Provera stated progesterone - but its really not human progesterone or progesterone at all.
Avatar m tn I had a hysterectomy at age 45 due to a benign tumor on my left ovary as well and fibroids. This was done in October 2011. The surgery did provide pain relief from the painful periods, and constant fibroids, but 9 days after my surgery I started with a major depression that has not gone away. After having my bloodwork taken, my thyroid was hypo active and that was corrected.
898095 tn?1241885301 I had a total hysterectomy at the age of 38 and the only hormones I have been taking are premarin (lowest dose) orally and two months ago I had to commence vaginal estrogen due to vaginal atrophy. This has been a rough ride for me, and it's really good to virtually be with others that are going through the same problems. In the past year I have had major increase in foggy thinking, and terrible time with my memory!
Avatar f tn Do I need to continue taking Premarin .0625 or can I discontinue since I am past meopause age.
778044 tn?1299542934 Has anyone used Premarin to help jump start their period? And if so, how long did it take? I am on it for 25 days (Premarin) and then starting the aygestin after the 16th day.
8725523 tn?1399590462 I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with either Osphena or Premarin vagnal cream? I had a total hysterectomy at 28yrs old and have been taking hormone replacement ever since. I am now 41. I suffer from numerous migraines a month and am concerned about taking the oral option for fear of increased migraines d/t the estrogen.
Avatar m tn I took the 1/2 pill with great caution as my mom took premarin for many years and ended up with breast cancer which eventually took her life 5 years ago). I have been tortured since stopping my premarin regime. I don't think I have had a full nights sleep since - in fact last evening the first wake up was at 3:38 and then I had 5 more flashes before I finally got out of bed and started my day with more flashes. My gen practioner has suggested prozac ... sorry but that seems a bit severe.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed for missed abortion last May 17,2008 (as seen in the Ultrasound, the baby has no heart beat) i was administered a premarin 0.62 mg every 6 hours, the doctor said to soften the cervix as well as cytotec 200 mg every 8 hours. I was wondering why i should be given premarin? I have read that premarin is mainly estrogen.. Do i need to continuously use this product? They are waiting for me to bleed for them to be able to perform the D&C. Please advise asap...
Avatar f tn I suffer from Hashimotos autoimmune disease for many years and was diagnosed last year with Lupus after suffering many years with leukopenia which was caused by the Lupus or the Premarin. I took myself off of Premarin in July 2016 and I feel so much better. My hair is now growing back after losing about 3/4 of it during a Lupus flare-up that lasted over 7 months. My muscle aches are gone and my blood counts are now registering normal.
Avatar f tn Then they noticed that cases of endometrial cancer among Premarin users were going through the roof - the Premarin was causing endometrial hyperplasia, which was placing these women at high risk of endometrial cancer. It was then that they developed Prempro, which adds progestins to the mix, and supposedly reduces these risks.
691935 tn?1421027090 All of which (except for the ear ringing at a lower sound) just happened with stopping the premarin. Can anyone tell me how long I can expect these symptoms or if there are any natural supplements on the market that are safe?
Avatar f tn I stopped using Premarin when I learned how it was produced. (the equine version). When I asked was there an alternative, my doctor prescribed Angelique, which is, as I understand it, plant based. Please don't use the natural version. It's made with horse urine, preferably from draft horses because they can produce more in volume, due to their size. These mares are kept in pens where they cannot even move or turn. This sometimes causes blood clots.
589713 tn?1255699571 He then saw several leasions and thought that I might have cancer so he did a biopsy which came back negative.(Thank goodness). He then put me on premarin and a vaginal estrogen cream to be used daily as he said that my vagina looked like that of a much older woman not a 50 year old. It has shortened and thinned out. He found it very odd that this would happen so soon after my hysterectomy. While I do not have hot flashes or not sweats any more, the pain and bleeding has not improved.
