There are some hereditary conditions in which males have elevated estradiol levels. Also some endocrine syndromes. MOST of the time, the excess estrogen is produced in excess adipose tissue. Usually estrogen is converted into testosterone, but in some cases, this fails to happen. This is the type of case in which something like Aromasin might help.
This equates a bit to the old cliché about sex drive in men, being crazy in the teens and less so as we get old. Having higher than normal levels of estrogen though are linked to prostate cancer and heart disease. And they are probably going to want to make sure there is nothing like a tumor in your testes. There's also all those other things like enlarged breast tissue, loss of muscle mass and erectile dysfunction that can happen too if estrogen gets too out of control for a dude.
I do not smoke, I am not clinically obese but I do have excess weight. Few months ago I tried taking pills called lindynette 20 (EE 20 µg, gestodene 75 µg). I only took them for three days and then stopped because of such side effects as total loss of appetite, insomnia and pulling pain the shoulder. It felt like my arm had gone numb. This month I decided to try again and chose Qlaira (estradiol valerate/dienogest combination).
I think it is so wise to have a follow up with your Oncologist. I did want to throw out an idea though, since I have suffered on and off with horrific thigh pain for the past three years (Hysterectomy in 2000 for what was origionally dx as Ovarian Cancer... it is in my journal info if you are interested under "Why I am here." But, I am going with a loss of the crucial female hormone Estradiol.
I just had it tested and my Estradiol level is 67. The lab report says the level should be <56 pg/mL. I'll talk to my Endo, but any ideas on what causes high Estradiol levels in a 41 year old male? I don't drink or smoke, have a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Thanks for the help and suggestion to get it tested - I think I'm closer to figuring out what is wrong.

WeRDead, that's a lot of info, fairly technical, I don't have the Pharmaceutical knowledge offhand to know whether all of this is accurate, but I don't think he'd wanna use Estradiol - that's a female hormone w/ side effects of decreased Testosterone, decreased libido, possible ED, possible breast development in men, and a too-high level of Estradiol can also cause prostate enlargement & other issues, so I'm not sure why you'd be advocating that for ANY man, and e
Also, losing weight only benefits can bring to you if you have it in excess. So, you mean here that you have 100 pounds more than normal for your age and height? That sounds to be a lot, especially combined with a sedentary job. Regardless of testosterone considerations, losing weight is a no-brainer in your case.

I am 53 and have been in menopause for over a year. No oeriod in 10 months. I have recently gained about 8 pounds in the last two months, change in bowel habits, sore breasts. If you are a woman who has excess androgens, there are medications that can help stop the growth by correcting the hormonal excess. There probably are side effects but if they are usually minor for most people (if they weren't the drugs wouldn't be on the market). I don't think there is anything to make hair grow shorter permanently.
If you are a man, and you have an excess of androgens, there are probably medications to bring your levels to normal level.
Can you check these levels yourself or is this something you have to go in and have a doctor do? Only curious because I've been considering going in to seek professional advice too.
I'm 29, TTC for 6 months and no signs of ovulation or baby at all. Never been on BC, had a miscarriage or an abortion. I'm curious what my estradiol and FsH levels are.

I switched doctors. All I use now are estradiol (in a patch form) and a small amount of testosterone. I used to be the first to say we all need progesterone, but there is newer research on this, and again, the website I mentioned goes into a nice explanation.
The protocol I use now is based on the work by Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet and it was her book, "Screaming to be Heard" that I found about three years ago that proved to be most helpful to me.
Breast enlargement in adult men is usually due to imbalance of sex hormones and more of estrogen and less of testosterone. At times it is a false or pseudo breast enlargement and happens due to excess deposition of fat. In such cases surgery is the treatment to remove excess fat. Please consult an endocrine specialist or your PCP to get this evaluated.

but there are other pills out there that have more estradiol in them that may be more helpful... check that out, too)... but I am wondering if a little progesterone cream balanced with estradiol is what you need. Do a check on that, too, if that would be something you are interested in.
For women without ovaries, such as myself, there are some theories that suggest balancing is not the goal as was once thought...
