Basically, after you workout you need to down some serious protein to help your muscles regenerate the tissue you've torn so they build up thicker and heavier. My brother had great success with nitrotech from GNC but it's pretty pricey...

If you have a GNC, they have a weight gainer powder that you can mix with milk (regular or Lactaid), several small meals thru out the day, high in protein and carbs. You can look up weight gain diets on the internet. Uc is very individualistic so foods that I can eat may not agree with you. You need to tailor a diet to suit your needs.

For me, my weight gainer was Paxil, which is more likely to be a big weight gainer than Effexor because Effexor is a stimulating drug that affects norepinephrine as well as serotonin, while Paxil only affects serotonin, but I gained 50 pounds over a period of years. I cannot remember the brand, but I remember they had around 600cal each, and ~40g of protein(I have since learned that this is too much protein for your body to use at once). I drank 2 of these a day, and nothing else about my diet changed. I was probably consuming about 180-200g of protein a day, while weighing 150lb @ 8% body fat.

Avatar f tn I have to disagree with the advice to eat high calorie foods to gain weight and to eat cream and milk and not to drink water -- this isn't healthy. Weight gainer shakes aren't healthy. What you want is a healthy diet that accomplishes what you want to accomplish -- putting in unhealthy food doesn't do that, it just makes you fat in places but still the same overall shape. There is also no vitamin to gain weight, and doctors know virtually nothing about vitamins.
Avatar f tn It's not that uncommon to lose weight when you have anxiety. I went through the same thing myself years ago. Yes, I think getting a drink like Boost would be a good idea. You really need the nutrition until you feel like eating more solids food again.
Avatar m tn Is the problem that you just can't fit in enough cals due to not having an appetite? You could try a weight gainer protein powder if that's the case, or add in healthy fats like peanut butter or nuts since those are calorie dense, but wont' leave you feeling stuffed!

Avatar f tn Try decreasing sugar and starch calories and eat more vegetables and lean protein. Have protein in the morning, and even better, have protein plus vegetables in the morning. Like make egg scrambles with vegetables.
Avatar f tn This means dropping the processed things out of your diet like chips and crackers and obviously the sugar items like cookies and such. Instead, have a piece of fruit for a snack or a hard boiled egg or protein bar. Keep your portions smaller at meal time and try to stick to lean protein, fruits and vegis. Exercise for a half hour at least 5 times a week where you get your heart rate up (where you can talk but are breathing hard). Good luck and let us know how you do!

(one portion of standard weigh gainers is around 1300 Kjoule, and to gain weight in your age with your height and with a high metabolism you would need around 3200 kjoule a day to gain weight? This is my estimate) then for dinner you can just have what ever your mom is cooking you!
