Avatar m tn Hi I hope before you started taking this it was explained this is 50 x stronger than morphine and is highly addictive and when people want to come off it they find it very difficult as they get little support from Doctors and suffer lots of withdrawal symptoms. Better to look at other ways to control pain . The patch is notorious for not lasting 3 days and people going into withdrawal on a regular basis. They feel good the day the new patch goes on and bad by the 3rd day.
Avatar m tn t know where else to put this, but I was recently switched from Morphine 60mg ER to the Fentanyl Duragesic patch. I thought the weird flu like symptoms might be a result of the new drug, but apparently it has to be withdrawal from the Morphine. I'm kind of miffed neither the doctor nor pharmacist even mentioned this could happen. I was naive and thought the new medication wouldn't create an issue with the switch, I was wrong.
Avatar m tn Fentanyl (Transdermal, Transbuccal, Transmucosal, Sublingual) Norfentanyl 4-N-(N-propionylanilino) piperidine 4-N-(Nhydroxypropionylanilino) piperidine 1-(2-phenethyl)-4-N-(Nhydroxypropionylanilino) piperidine (Source: Remitigate.com) As for my experience with transdermal fentanyl, when I used that patch, I found them effective to 2 days only, after only 3-6 months of use. For me, the problem with transdermal fentanyl was a rapid development of opioid tolerance.
Avatar f tn I've been on the Duragesic 100 for almost 18 years. I've had 3 cervical fusions & 1 lumbar laminectomy. The Duragesic 100 has controlled my constant, chronic pain & while I've never been pain free, the Duragesic certainty helped. However in the last 2 months, its as if the patches are no longer working. I've always had additional breakthrough meds, but now its as if I'm going through withdrawals.
Avatar f tn After a wek of withdrawal he upped me to 25mcg per hour. I have been on it for 6 days ( 2 patch cycles) and am still in full withdrawal. I have an adhesive allergy and altho I'm not breaking out I. Hives or having a visible reaction is it possible that my body is just not absorbing the medication? Has anyone else had a similar issue?
Avatar f tn t understand all technical junk about fentanyl patches but I do know my body is well addicted and I get withdrawal about every 48hr because the patches don't last the 3 days there supposed to which is why I have dihydrocodeine to. I don't sleep more than an hour a day and my life turning into a real mess. I need to get of these patches but Gp wont even think about it till I've had another op to try to rectify there last screw up.
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome here and sorry that your post got overlooked, sazerac... you have been through a lot and have a lot of courage, i wish you all the best now... you can ask your doctor for clonidine, a blood pressure med that helps with wds ... anyway, you will need your doctor's help here, .... read the thomas recipe at the health pages ( bottom of the page ) where you can find some other suggestions to help with wds, all in all they help to alleviate the symptoms a bit...
2178523 tn?1337618945 I have been on the 100 mcg Duragesic Patch as well as 120mg of oxycodone each day for about a year now. I stopped the patch cold turkey about 6 days ago and am slowly tapering down my oxycodone usage. I am also prescribed 4 mg of Xanax a day, which I am also trying to taper down. I was in a really bad car accident about 5 years ago and have had a total disc replacement at the L5-S1 level as well as a neurostimulator implanted.

Avatar n tn Dear friend, I feel your pain and I'm wondering if or what someone will tell you on a comment back. Only one person was kind to comment back to my post. If you are in the fentanyl patch and I was on that too about 5 years ago, but it burned my skin, so they put me on morphine er, I was taking 60mg twice daily and had 100 of the 15mg fast acting morphine and that was not helping me anymore.
Avatar f tn Basically, they were going to use methadone to control the headache, since it has a longer half-life and stays in your system long enough to prevent sudden withdrawal symptoms. My doctor promised that if I decided to stop methadone, the withdrawal wouldn't be an issue. It was serious stuff. Methadone is a controlled substance, so I had to sign a contract promising I would use the same pharmacy for every refill and fill it in person within seven days.

Avatar m tn I had the same reaction with the percocet where I had to take 2-3 at once. I was just prescribed the duragesic patch 25mcg but have not filled the prescription, while researching on internet found the ingredients in this patch being some powerful meds that I have never experienced before and I am in fear of overdose, not being able to concentrate on my job or addiction.
Avatar f tn I spent 15 yrs taking oxycontin, duragesic patch (fentanyl) for previous back surgeries. I still had continual pain. 2 yrs ago I decided to stop all pain meds. My body was physically addicted and built up a tolerance. I never abused my medication and took it exactly as described. Initially, I tried to wean myself off-stopping one of the oxycontin's per day. The withdrawal was "nuts". My legs thrashed, I had freezing cold sweats, shivering, agitation-and God knows what else.
Avatar n tn I have been taking ultram 2x and lortab 3x daily for 2 yrs.Doctor continues to ask me if I would start fentanyl therapy, which I have tried and only helps for 2 days and not 3 days which the dosage is set at.I have declined the fentanyl treatment and now DR. wants me to see surgeon for my cervical stenosis. My neck is only a part of my problems.I first started pain management for leg pain which still continues.
Avatar n tn Using damaged or cut DURAGESIC® patches can lead to the rapid release of the contents of the DURAGESIC® patch and absorption of a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. I once walked in a room as a nurse, found a patient who had taken off his patch and chewed it...he coded and died...there is alot of medication concentrated in the patch to be released over a 24 hour period...not all at once...if you cut them you would have no way of knowing the amount your wife would be absorbing..
Avatar n tn And yes I would guess you would have some small withdrawal symptoms but the majority of them should be controlled by the new opiates you will be taking. Please take care and let us know how you are doing. Best of luck to you with the new medication regime.

Avatar m tn Fentanyl patches come in different strengths I think all the way to 12.5 and up. They are a stronger med but controlled release.
Avatar f tn Try imodium for the stomach upset, it also helps ease some of the withdrawal symptoms. Gatorade to keep your electrolytes in balance, and provide needed nutrients and fluids. Hylands restless legs help ease those symptoms, along with a hot bath with Epsom salts to relax you and your muscles. Bananas also ease muscle aches. Melatonin or tylenol PM can help you sleep, but I would avoid going to bed so early, that's why you aren't sleeping through the night.
369629 tn?1237812958 s guidance, he can prescribe other things to help mitigate the withdrawal symptoms that you might encounter, so it won't be a case of going it alone, as so often happens with people who are trying to detox because they're taking the drugs illegally. Also, if you get away from the opiates that way, once you're done, you're DONE! You don't then have to get away from what it was that helped you get away from the opiates.
Avatar n tn I'm wondering why you feel the Duragesic is bad for you? I just started the Fentanyl patch, 75 mcg every 48 hours plus oxycodone for breaththrough pain along with a few other meds I specifically witched over to the Duragesic brand a month or two ago, and that one work bet for me in many way.(It doesn't fall off or leave a glue residue on my kin or clothes.
443878 tn?1205103196 My total weight loss was 60lbs. I am concerned with the possible and eventual withdrawal from the Fentanyl. Is the withdrawal as rough as Oxycontin? I have several questions but I will start with this one for now. T%hank you in advance for your reply and I am happy to be a member of this community.
Avatar m tn I really admire you for enduring withdrawal the way you have. Fentanyl is a particularly vicious drug for withdrawal symptoms andyou're dealing with it with an uncommon grace. My sister is a teacher and I totally understand why you feel it necessary to detox. Many districts in our area have a zero tolerance drug policy not only for the students but for the teachers. Doesn't matter if the meds are prescribed or not. If you're a teacher taking a narcotic, you're out.
