Dosage of prozac for ocd

Common Questions and Answers about Dosage of prozac for ocd

prozac

Avatar m tn Usually, there is more time inbetween dosage increases, but everyone is different, and your dr. knows you the best. The typical range of Prozac for an adult with OCD is about 80 mg, anywhere from 60 to 100 plus.
Avatar f tn m told can cause anxiety) and Lamictal (mood stabilizer for Bipolar). Buspar works great for me and is the kind of med that you can feel accumulate in your system. That way, you don't suffer if missing a dose. I take 10mg 3 times a day. It used to just be 2x, but my job got stressful and we made an adjustment. I was originally given Xanax which was a huge mistake on my GP's part.
Avatar f tn I take Prozac for OCD. I have had OCD for many years but just started taking Prozac in October. I have gradually noticed a difference and usually for the better but still have times when I seem like I'm slipping back again. I have also noticed that I have times elevated mood, which is great....lol....but it's almost too elevated....lol. Anyway hope that you find the medication thats right for you. Oh.by the way I take 30mg a day.
286686 tn?1416012340 I was curious to know if anyone here is resistant to medication for OCD. He is on 300mg of Anafranil since December and started Luvox at the end of December and doctor has been increasing the luvox, so he is now on 300mg of luvox as of two days ago. This is the strange part.....
Avatar f tn It's going to take time for the Prozac to work, typically 4-6 weeks (if not a bit longer). Then, at that point, you will reevaluate the Prozac. Some people need a higher dose to achieve the desired level of effectiveness. If a higher dosage is needed, then the adjustment period (wait time if you will) will be even longer. In other words, this is a process, one that could easily take a few months before being able to really start seeing significant improvements.
Avatar f tn I was on a pretty low dosage of prozac, 10 mg. And my doc upped it to 20 mg. I noticed more suicidal thoughts, worse OCD, and minor anxieties. Then he upped it to 40 mg, even though I told him the medication is probably making my symptoms worse. I've had increase in hallucinations, OCD and horrible anxiety attacks at night and while I am at work. Concentration is better, yes but that's not what I'm worried about. Now I don't do well with people anymore.
Avatar n tn Our child was on Prozac for a year when she was six years old - she sufferd from severe anxiety and depression. We had major issues with the Prozac. Her doctor placed her on Effexor for two-three years with moderate success but some side effects as sweating and poor sleep issues. She now takes a very low dose of Celexa and is doing well. If it were me, I think I might choose point (3) with one of the newer SSRI's (they tend to have fewer side effects).
Avatar m tn There are other medications that can help besides Prozac. I was on Prozac for my OCD for awhile and it didn't help me at all, but there are others that can help. It's all a matter of finding the right one and getting the dosage just right. OCD is very difficult to treat and often times you might only get minimal relief. As Magpieee said, the best thing you can do for yourself is to fight the urges. I know it feels impossible, but over time it actually helps.
Avatar m tn Plus, what irritates me the most are these crazy thoughts, are they common among anxiety ocd sufferers, to be 24/7 afraid of hallucinations, or spirits, ghosts, mirrors, possession? I tend to sleep well, but am I crazy for having these thoughts? Thanks for medical answers..
Avatar n tn We met with a child psychiatrist and gave us the diagnosis but also said she had OCD and prescribed Prozac for her(about 1/4 tsp every day). I am concerned about putting her on meds but also feel horrible for her and her tantrums have been unbearable (stemming from the obsessions) for our entire family. Is meds for this along with therapies for the other autism issues the right thing or should i think twice about putting her on meds?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with ocd and was prescribed Prozac. But I am not taking it for the fear of side effects and withdrawl issues. So I researched about the natural treatments and have been taking the following supplements for my OCD in the given amounts and have seen improvement in the way my brain handles irrational fears- Vitamin B6- 40mg/day Vitamin B12-1mg/day Folic acid-1.6 mg/day Vitamin D3- 60K UI powder sachet/week Ashwagandha(Withania Somnifera)- 500mg/day Cod Liver Oil(Omega 3)- 1.
Avatar f tn Generally dosages are 20 to 40 mg for depression, and 60 to 80 mg (and occasionally higher) for OCD. I personally took 80 mg prozac for 16 years. And I agree with JGF25. Long term effects? I wouldn't BE HERE long term if I hadn't taken meds. I also have low thyroid. Years ago, my dr. said to just view my SSRI as I do my thyroid supplement, something my body needs. Who is prescribing for you, your family doc, or a psychiatrist? That is the person to ask your questions of.
11087138 tn?1415186820 hi jay , i am also from india, my symptoms are almost like you, i am taking medicines from last 6 months but my symptoms are almost in control, because i have done self therapy in addition to medicines , i have taken help from the book "Overcoming Obsessive Thoughts: How to Gain Control of Your OCD" by Purdon and Clark. this book focuses mainly on pure o ocd .
414333 tn?1226191493 I asked my doctor if he could help me get off any faster as i still had many side effects. His only offer of help was Prozac which I refused to take for my own reasons, I guess. Finally, November 29, of 2007, I admitted myself to a hospital with a substance abuse program. It was a total disaster as they took me off my 1/2 pill in three days and put me on 5 other medications, all for anxiety relief. My blood pressure soared so meds were added for that.
1422233 tn?1282701102 This question could also qualify as a depression one so I hope it's ok to post it here. I'm a 22 year old female & have anxiety, depression, & OCD. I have been on Paxil (the generic brand) for about three years now. A couple of weeks ago I started to feel like it wasn't working for me anymore. I can feel the anxiety & I get down. It's not as bad as before I was on the Paxil, but I think I need a change. I have a Doctors' appointment this week.
Avatar m tn Can side affects of prozac, be bronchitis and memory lost, if so what can i do about it.
581310 tn?1253029550 What anti depressant do you think would be good for anxiety and ocd? Also, I have noticed since being on the prozac that my hands are always shaky.
581310 tn?1253029550 I am feeling no different with the anxiety. I am thinking I might need to get on xanax for a little while until my prozac is increased since it is really driving me crazy. Any advice would be great.
Avatar f tn I posted this in the Anxiety forum, but hoped I'd get some help from here. I have been on Zoloft for years (on and off). I had to go back on it in January after a 6 month break. My anxiety got so bad I was having severe panic attacks. This time when I went on the Zoloft it had the opposite effect....it was more stimulating that calming for me and I'm not sure why. Neither is my doctor. I also have OCD and it increased my OCD by 10x almost immediately.
Avatar n tn He is back now and I have weened myself off again of prozac and I have this awful headache that wont go away. I have had the headache for 4 days now. I have weened myself off plenty of times and never felt like this. I have just celebrated a birthday and have decided to run a 5K, eat healthy, exercise, stop drinking caffeine, and be off all meds. Is this possible with OCD?
248167 tn?1220363690 ve just been prescribed 10mg of Prozac. Should I just go for it and take them? Anyone with good experiences taking them please tell me if it's worth it. Those of you with bad experiences please let me know as well. Thanks in advance to you all.
Avatar f tn Those of you who are on medicine for OCD, what do you take? Does it seem to work and do you have any side effects? I was on Prozac in the past and it worked, but I also gained over 20 pounds. I would like to try something new this time around.
Avatar n tn I would give luvox a go, it will knock you on your arse at first its strong stuff, but it will remove thoughts and anxiety, its probably the drug of choice for OCD in my experience
Avatar f tn I have an appointment with a psychologist tomorrow to discuss my Meds. I was on 20mg of Prozac in the past and it worked well , but I also gained a lot of weight on it. I don't know if I need to up my dose or change my medication. Looking to see what have worked for others. Thank you.
1665434 tn?1365238898 i have unwanted thoughts and i was gaving prozac for this 4 weeks ago i feel worst than ever my anxiesty and depression is got very bad is it normal to feel like this when starting a ssri drug our should i go bad to my docyor or wait a few weeks more
Avatar f tn That's a lot of drinking for someone with anxiety. And especially for someone on Xanax. And yes, all of these meds can cause memory problems, both while taking them and when going through withdrawing while quitting them. The Xanax is more likely to blame if any med is to blame, though it's hard to tell if it's the med or something else. There's probably nothing a neurologist can find, but it's always good to rule out physiological causes.
Avatar m tn I have been diagnosed with OCD. I have obsessive irrational thoughts which don't go out of my mind for months. I don't want to go on SSRIs. The psychologist suggested me Prozac along with Alzivit(Folic acid+Vitamin B6+Vitamin B12) and Vitamin D3. I have decided to first try these multivitamins and see if the situation improves before going on to SSRIs. Also, I have heard folic acid is bad for ocd. So can I order seperate supplements for Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12 and take them?
