ve read about extended release focalin verses extended release concerta is that focalin works faster (within 30 minutes of taking it) and is better for a child that needs the help prior to leaving for school and that type of thing. We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive. He takes clonodine to sleep. But is very amped up at night. Could this be a side effect?
My child was diagnoised by some doctor to have a.d.h.d. His mother started him on folcalin then concerta he has more problems now at school and cant even read he's in 2nd grade. I want him off the crystal meth (a.k.a) Concerta i believe is killing my son he doesnt eat and his lips constanly have scabs and now his nose is bleeding daily.Please God someone help me and my son.
Three weeks ago, the Psychiatrist added in Intuniv...OH MY GOSH...the Concerta and Intuniv were PERFECT....Great days at school and an amazing kid emerged...Then at the end of two weeks he developed a tic...This was so horrible...They were happening about 12 - 16 per minute. raised eyebrows, eyes rolling to back of the head, head tilt to the side and a humming sound. We called Psych. and Concerta was stopped. However a week later, the tics are still here...not as frequent...
I am a recovering addict and have adhd, therefore cannot take the 'upper'meds for my condition. What else can I take?
My children have been on Focalin XR for years now and have had wonderful results. Before this my son was on concerta and strattera together and it zoned him out, but the focalin allows him to focus and still be the same kid he always was. You can definately tell when the medicine has worn off, but when he is medicated he is his normal polite agreeable self and, just more focused. He is able to concentrate in class with no problems.
After adjusting the dosage, changing to focalin, and finally concerta we have found one that is better. He is definitely more even on the concerta. On focalin, he barely smiled and on ritilin he cried every 5 minutes. Now he is more controlled but still a fun little boy. His crying outbursts have almost disappeared. You may need to try something else.
My son has been on concerta 72ml for yrs. My Dr started drug testing to make sure it is in his system. I make sure he takes it every morning I check mouth and tongue. He has had 3 test in 3 weeks and all 3 come back neg. Any help as to why they are coming back negative is greatly appreciated. I am at the end of my ropes. And he needs his meds to get thru school. Please help!!!!!!
Been using focalin for adhd for 3 years. Previously uses ritalin, concerta, ritalin LA.
Taking 10mg twice daily.
Recnently been feeling very stressed and anxiety out over nothing. I get irritated easily.
Looked into my diet and blood work, etc. They are all ok. Life is ok, otherwise.
The doctor said stims can cause this and gave also tenex to take the edge off. Helps a little, but its not right.
Is this common for anyone else?
I have been taking Concerta for one year. This was to counteract the fatigue and sleepiness that I had been getting from taking Paxil for depression. Though Concertat was initially effective, it gradually became more of a detriment than help. It made me very irritable, unfocused, and moody. I have worked with my doctor to gradually phase concerta out from the 72m I was taking daily.

MY SON HAS BEEN ON CONCERTA FOR 7YRS AND IT IS WONDERFUL HE HAS ADHD. MY DAUGHTER HAS ADHD AND ODD, CONCERTA GAVE HER TICS AND FINALLY I FOUND A GREAT DOCTOR AND SHE TOOK HER OFF STIULANTS AND THEY ARE ALL GONE SHE IS NOW ON TENEX AND IS A NEW CHILD. SOMETIME IT IS JUST TRIAL AND ERA TILL YOU FIND THE RIGHT DRUG, AS YOU COULD SEE WITH MY DAUGHTER, AND BELIEVE ME WE TRIED ABOUT 10 OR MORE TILL WE GOT IT RIGHT.
Also, I like not having him on it because it makes me realize that he still needs it. Even if we are home or in a quiet environment, I can tell a difference in Focalin vs no Focalin. Good Luck!
i dont reallly think i have adhd bad cause i still get all the positive recreational effects from amphetamines and other adhd drugs. focalin is dexmethylphenidate and its twice as potent as methylphenidate(ritalin, concerta, etc)..im suppsoed to take 40 mgs daily and it does help with my minor symptoms and gives me quite a stimulant effect, but for me and my addictive personality its like playin with fire.
It is all making a difference slowly but surely. You may want to check with the doc about a different drug and seek some counseling. Maybe the doc could refer you for the severe bahivior. Oh, our daughter was also diagnosed ODD. Oppositional Defiant Disorder. That comes quite often with ADD or ADHD. Talk to the doc and see what he/she says about it. Good luck to you. I know it is very very difficult t o handle. Especially having other siblings.
I've been snorting focalin for a while now and I'm pretty sure that I'm addicted to it. I've been snorting it for at least 5 months now, everyday, and its really scaring me now. I have to snort 30mg of focalin just to get a high. I know it might not be as bad as some other people, but the thing that really scares me is the fact that I just burned through a whole months supply of pills in roughly two weeks.
He is on Focalin. Has been on Concerta and Adderall in the past. He maxed out the dosage with Concerta and I was not happy with some of the side affects with the Adderall. He has had other strange behavior in the past as well... chewing on sleeves and necks of clothing, chewing on his head/foot board, and chewing on the mini-blinds. We have taken away everything except for bedding, clothing and books.
t feel a very big difference but did realise that I was more focussed and felt more tired at night and got more sleep. So after that month the concerta dosage stayed the same but the pdoc gave me 25mg lamictal with it. He said something about having a mood disorder, this after i filled out another questionair that, to me, sounded exactly like the adhd questionair. I told the doc that i really don't want to just keep changing the meds the whole time.
