Concerta vs focalin

Common Questions and Answers about Concerta vs focalin

concerta

Avatar f tn ve read about extended release focalin verses extended release concerta is that focalin works faster (within 30 minutes of taking it) and is better for a child that needs the help prior to leaving for school and that type of thing. So, it is reported that it begins working fast in the morning and continues to control symptoms during the day and then tapers off at hours 10 to 12.
Avatar m tn Hi there, My daughter suffers from ADHD, she is super sweet & in 3rd grade now, she was diagnosed when she was in 2nd grade. I am not sure how your son is, but I can explain how my daughter is with & w/out Concerta, she just recently started focalin to help with homework. My husband was completely against it & now understands it & even asks me if I gave her the medication the days we for forget.
1768088 tn?1409087815 My 10 year old 74lb daughter was diagnosed with Severe ADHD at 4... Started treating right before she turned 5. She has been on Concerta since she was 5. Started at 18 mg and ever so often had to increase. She's been on 54 mg a day for at least the past 3 years or so. Well lately we noticed It's not working as well as it once was. She also takes Focalin 10 mg in the afternoon when needed.
Avatar n tn extremely addictive, if abused. Ritilan, Adderal, Focalin, Daytrana are a few more in that class. He/she also added that they are an recovering addict, so I assume that they have abused, or are afraid that they will abuse these meds. Boots: I know of one that isn't an 'upper'. It's called 'Concerta'. My son was on it for a short time, but they bothered his stomach alot, so he had to stop. Perhaps you could try this one.
Avatar f tn My children have been on Focalin XR for years now and have had wonderful results. Before this my son was on concerta and strattera together and it zoned him out, but the focalin allows him to focus and still be the same kid he always was. You can definately tell when the medicine has worn off, but when he is medicated he is his normal polite agreeable self and, just more focused. He is able to concentrate in class with no problems.
Avatar f tn We now switched him to concerta (lasts longer than focalin)...and added Prozac. Teacher really likes the results at school. However...evenings are hectic. He becomes very silly and immature. Often displaying autistic like behaviors--flapping hands, grunting, weird noises etc. Demeanor is relatively happy and giggly....Before just on ADHD meds...the withdrawal he was very angry and aggressive. He takes clonodine to sleep. But is very amped up at night. Could this be a side effect?

Avatar n tn 5 mg of Focalin at around 4 pm, and it helped tremendously. He now takes Focalin XR instead of Concerta becasue when he hit puberty he started having major issues with Concerta.

Avatar n tn Been using focalin for adhd for 3 years. Previously uses ritalin, concerta, ritalin LA. Taking 10mg twice daily. Recnently been feeling very stressed and anxiety out over nothing. I get irritated easily. Looked into my diet and blood work, etc. They are all ok. Life is ok, otherwise. The doctor said stims can cause this and gave also tenex to take the edge off. Helps a little, but its not right. Is this common for anyone else?
Avatar f tn After adjusting the dosage, changing to focalin, and finally concerta we have found one that is better. He is definitely more even on the concerta. On focalin, he barely smiled and on ritilin he cried every 5 minutes. Now he is more controlled but still a fun little boy. His crying outbursts have almost disappeared. You may need to try something else.
1575110 tn?1334664635 Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.
Avatar n tn any nyperactivity, inattention or impulsivity. Such medications will not have an influence in the other areas of his functioning. Any of these medications should be employed only if a careful diagnosis of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder has been reached.
Avatar f tn Also, I like not having him on it because it makes me realize that he still needs it. Even if we are home or in a quiet environment, I can tell a difference in Focalin vs no Focalin. Good Luck!
Avatar n tn too simply answer these questions- focalin is the name brand for dexmethylphenidate, which is similar to the adhd and mild stimulant drug methylphenidate commonly known as ritalin, except for that ritalin has two isomers one thats inactive, and focalin only has the active isomer, overall its an easy way for pharmaceutical companies to make money, it is more potent than ritalin most doctors will tell you too cut your ritalin dose in half when starting focalin, meaning its twice as potent....
Avatar n tn tried focalin and adderall for one yr, 5 yrs ago every teacher every yr calls with the same complaints 3 other siblings on home otherwise healthy looking for alternatives THANK YOU SO MUCH
Avatar m tn My doctor thinks we may try something else to counteract the fatigue side effects of Paxil, once I concerta is out of my system. Honestly, this experience with concerta has me thinking of to phasing antidepressants altogether. I should mention that asside 50mg of Paxil I am also taking 0.5 mg of risperidon. I thank you again for your very thoughtful response.
Avatar m tn Ask your doctor about Ritaln or Concerta for memory and attention problems. These symptoms can be side effects of depression. There is also Vyvanse and Focalin. If one does not work, try another. They will help with your energy. The meds are out of your system that day; do not linger for weeks.
Avatar n tn He is on Focalin. Has been on Concerta and Adderall in the past. He maxed out the dosage with Concerta and I was not happy with some of the side affects with the Adderall. He has had other strange behavior in the past as well... chewing on sleeves and necks of clothing, chewing on his head/foot board, and chewing on the mini-blinds. We have taken away everything except for bedding, clothing and books.
Avatar n tn One of my sons cannot take Ritalin in any form. He has tried Concerta (caused extreme anxiety), Strattera (no effect) and Focalin (Zombie). he is now doing wonderfully on Adderall XR. His brother has been on Focalin XR for 2 years and does well on it. Neither has any side effects.
11352669 tn?1417486501 30 PM to 8-9 PM, and I take the concerta around 8:15AM before school) -very dilated pupils -sensivity to light -dizziness (not unpleasant, and without headaches or difficulty thinking, alcohol like vertigo effect, and very slight) -distortions (things get bigger or smaller, or go right, then left, but again very slightly, and only around what I'm looking at, never directly at what I'm looking) -LSD or whatever type effects, but SUPER SLIGHT and only visual (colors change just a bit
Avatar m tn I am 18 years old and a senior in high school. Last summer I started trying different drugs like cocaine, marijuana, pain killers, ecstasy, Valium, Xanex, and my favorite category, stimulants, Ritalin, Concerta, Focalin, Adderall and other pills that I didn't even know what they were (bad idea) After trying medicine for ADHD/ADD and comparing how I function on and off them I realized that I have ADD.
Avatar f tn Many thanks for reading my post Many thanks for reading my post One of our twin daughter’s, 8year old 9years this year, has finally been diagnosed with ADD, not the hypo type. She has been in speech therapy since 3yrs old due to Expressive language difficulties, is catch up but still behind her peers, age group. We took our daughter to a neuro/physiologist and he did lots of test's on our daughter and found she has ADD.
Avatar m tn I tried provigil, stratera, wellbutrin, lexapro, celexa, Prozac, paxil adderal, and concerta. Concerta is ritalin (methylphenidate hcl) but the delivery system is different and is supposed to be more effective but it's wicked expensive. My medication doesn't make everything all better for me. I'm not able to go out and do normal things just because I take the pills. I was never able to just do normal things. The medication does make things much easier but it doesn't work magic.
