Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and joint pain

depo-provera

The docotors believe I may have a progesterone problem due to depo Provera. I was on depo for 6 years and went off the shot in Sept. Does anyone know if the effects of this shot can linger and cause lower progesterone levels?
I am a 21 year old female, and been having the depo injection every three months since May 2012. I have been having headaches and joint pain since then, and its driving me insane. The leg pain gets so bad that I can't sleep at night, have to get my boyfriend to rub my knees to ease the pain off, and lately its been in both knees not just the left. It sometimes comes from my hip right down to my ankle and its annoying me.
(I'm 25 now, 23 at the depo time) I gained 50 pounds, had terrible mood swings, depression, bone loss, fatigue and some minor other problems. I suffer from knee/joint pain now because depo causes you to loose calcium in your bones. If you choose to go with it, make sure you start a calcuim supplament right away. I honestly would suggest researching into any drug before you commit to it. Some people I know have had really good luck with it.
However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome. My OBGYN ran a bone scan and diagnosed me with osteopenia, and declared me menopausal, since my periods have also not resumed.
I have a 7mm protrusion coming from my pituitary that in all clinical reality should be called a tumor. There is also a void in my pituitary that was left from "old tumor that out grew it's blood supply". I have been dealing with the railroad spike in the head headaches for years. They are now controlled with medication. I have been experiencing severe joint pain a week before my period and as soon as menstruation starts it is gone. Completely.
I wonder what the difference between the two depo shots are and I wonder why my gyno recommended the other depo shot if the depo-subq provera 104 shot is specific for endo ?
I will never go on depo Provera again. My daughter was on depo Provera at college, and discontinued the shot and has lost that weight and is thin again. Fitday.com's free site has helped me keep up with my carb intake, and also tells me how many calories, how much fat etc. I use. It does this automatically when I put my food in for the day. Also Magic Bus has a forum where you can learn how to lose weight quick and even post on a challenge to keep you honest and responsible.
also i have been having severly bad pains on my hip and its hard to even hold my son with this pain. this has never happened till after tht depo shot. should i stop taking it and just get on the pill?
I've tried Ibruprophen AND aspirin as well as Naproxen, but I'm not sure if they work seeing as how the pain comes and goes so quickly anyway. And, do pulled muscles last for more than 7 months? It's not a pain I have every day, and I seem to excecise okay, too. I haven't tried a heating pad next time and see if that will help at all. Thanks for the advice.
The only surgery I've ever had is the laproscopy, which was done in an attempt to find the cause of the pain. I am not on the pill. I took it for a few months when we were first married, in 1993. The side effects caused me to quit taking it (weight gain & abdominal cramping). I was on depo-Provera for a year and a half (1997-early 1999). No other birth control since then.
Seven were on the pill, one used injectable depo-Provera, and one the vaginal ring NuvaRing. Results showed genital fluid from the women using hormonal contraception had significantly less anti-herpes activity compared with the other women, she tells WebMD. Shust stresses that the study was small and the findings need confirmation in other research.
4) I dont get pain anymore but I was at the point where I was taking Anaprox and advil. Both took forever to work and I still felt as though I was in so much pain. Surgery helped me as I had stage IV deep rectovaginal endo Before my surgery i dreaded having a period because of the intense pain. i couldnt eat or sleep and would vomit because of the pain.
It actually constipated me for the first few days and gave me heartburn and chest pain. I don't know if that is normal or not. My doctor says I am insulin resistant and he thinks this will help me loss weight. Should I ask to increase it? Or is it to soon?
docs took a wait and see approach , didnt work tried methamazole, after 4 weeks was alergic, was also on beta blockers, after like 14 months of dealing with all this they suggested RAI ,had that done, after 2 weeks had double vision, and I have much difficulty focusing, I have always complained about leg pain, muscle spasms, low sex drive, extreme fatigue, hair loss , sometimes painful sex, increased yeast infections chest pain occasionally, more recent over the past 8 months or so I have had

She strongIy feels that if it was endo the depo Provera shot should have cleared it up. I asked her about my muscle cramps, joint pain, ear pain and low grade fevers. She said that they are not symptoms of endo and it could be an autoimmune disease but I read on several endo sites that they can be associated with endo. She sent me back to my regular physician to test for autoimmune diseases. They tested for Lupus, Rheumatoid arthritis, and thyroid disease along with X rays of my joints.
My doctor and I decided it was best to stop the depo provera so I am getting off of birth control and we will wait and see what my hormones do at that point. I went to the ER today to try to get some answers because I feel no one is taking me serious and they treated me as if I was crazy because I had 3 panic attacks while there. They did run a CT scan and it came back normal. The doctor did not seem to think my hormone levels were causing this and didnt' even think they were that abnormal.
L , it was either live with the pain or get back on lupron, I chose to live with the pain, I lived with it for three years till I decided enough was enough I went to see another doctor, I explained me situation to him and he was eager to help, I told him that I cant take this pain anymore and I thought that the pain was from the mirena, he laughed and said no way was my pain coming from the mirena and that there was no way it caused me to get endometriosis, so he gave me an exam to make sure my
than i was having muscle and joint pain for three months plus a steady ongoing yeast infection that would not go away. so if you are on it dont plan to have sex because this drug just kills that. I went off it because of the side effects but because the BCP is not working I had to go back on it for three months. The first shot i felt like **** and the second, well within two days i fell into a depression. This drug is wrong in every way.
I used to not have periods at all but for the last year or 2 things became normal and now it's not. I feel sick and tired all the time, I have alot of joint pain and troble eating. I am currently taking metformin (for PCOS) and Provera to help control the bleeding but it is not working. I have PCOS and my husband and I have been trying to conceive for over 5 years now. My doctor referred me to an endocrinologist ( hope I spelled that correct ).
She never informed me why my thyroid but I assume because I had been off of depo Provera for almost 2 years and had only had a few random periods, she did state that I was ovulating when I went in. Never had a period after or since. I was also experiencing fatigue and had told her of that and had gained 10 lbs. Which was strange because I hadnt changed my diet and have always maintained my weight.
I suffer a slow forming anaphylaxis and most of my reactions are internalized effecting my organs and muscles. When I was tested for this condition with depo provera, my reaction was positive but showed no external symptoms, I developed giant painful satellite lesions under my skin that lasted for several days. For years.
I have Sjogren's Syndrome and dry eyes and mouth are definitely common symptoms. However, the most common symptom for me is overwhelming fatigue. Hashimotos is also common in women with Sjogren's (I have it also). Non-specific (meaning "wandering") joint and muscle pain is also common in most autoimmune diseases. I hope by now you have seen the Rheu and have gotten some help.
They found sever scar tissue wrapped around my bladder and uterus and removed it. But did not find the cause, the pain was more sever then before so the OB went in again in April 08 and found endomitriosis.
no one ever rx-ed me narcs for endo///surgery is the fix for that to remove it//not narcs and considering where endometriosis pain comes from it is not considered as a choice for pain relief for endometriosis by most physicians//depo provera..a drug that stops periods will also put endometriosis down cos it is caused by uterine bleeding DDD sux! I have completely lost 2 discs to this disease///and have plates in my neck...thing is how u r feeling right now sounds worse than the pain from DDD..
And Like Nancy in my crazy red shoulder padded double breasted BLAZER, I JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS!!! ... and now I'll rest, try and let some of the bad energy of the pain and this last week go so I can work all weekend and next week too. One day at a time. I was pretty sure last night when I got home and was so tired and disoriented that today might be like this. It is worth it.No matter what. Getting off this stuff will save me a HUGE amount of pain in the future. I liked waking up happy!
after i had my son i went onto the implant which did not agree with me, got infected and had to b removed after 3 months (meant to stop in for 3 years) i then went onto the depo but a year ago or so i started bleeding very heavy for the last 4 weeks of every injection so the doctor at the clinic also put me on the pill......bad idea! I started cramping and was adviced by my GP to come of both the depo and pill and have not had a period ever since!
my boyfriend wants me to let you know that I am on depo Provera and that I got my shot in the right arm 2 days before this all started, do you think it may be linked together?
