Cymbalta vs effexor weight gain

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta vs effexor weight gain

cymbalta

Avatar m tn I also was on citolapram but my doctor pulled me off it when he saw alot of mood change and weight gain. But then I was on both effexor and citolapram, highest doses each. This could of had some effect. I have been off both 8 months and the withdrawls are alful. I asked my doctor about it and he told me it was the effexor. I hope whatever you do works for you but myself I want little much more to do with any antidepressant do to the effects they have had on me and family members.
Avatar m tn Have also just went from taking cymbalta and abilify to the effexor and abilify, but went off the abilify because of the weight gain. Dr wanted me to try wellbutrin and go off the effexor, but don't think it was working. Now I'm really confused on what works. For a couple days of being off the wellbutrin and on 150 of effexor i fealt great. But 3 days later i feel horible again.
Avatar f tn i have not had any weight gain. Some meds can make you gain weight. Though I think meds act differently on different people. So probably the only way to figure out if it will work for you is to try it out for 6 weeks. That's what my doctor told me to do. Warning about it though... at higher doses, it can make you feel kind of foggy and loopy. Well, some people it can. So the dosage level varies by person as well.
Avatar n tn Yes it is true that Cymbalta helps with pain, it is often used to help people coming off strong painkillers, I don't know the full details though. It sounds like you have been prescribed the anti depressants to help with the anxiety, as they treat both.
530150 tn?1284658880 I had weight gain on both. I started Cymbalta because I have chronic pain, it's touted to help with pain, but it did absolutely nothing for me. Weaning off both drugs was painful. Ativan helped wtih the brain zaps and twiches I got, I also got some anxiety as well. I'm not on a med that helps with both chronic pain and depression without all the other issues.
Avatar f tn So , I have been on celexa for about 5 years and went off that because of my crazy weight gain.. Went on Effexor for about 6 months and I am gaining more weight!!! I have cut my calories, cut my sugar , went to a Nutrisionist , ate exactly how I am supposed to, exercised everyday, cardio and weights .. I have always been skinny ..
Avatar f tn I noticed that not only the Cymbalta but the Effexor I am on now is more likely the reason for my ugly weight gain. plus! because of the weight gain I hate myself. I'm disgusted w myself. I can't even look @ myself. none of my clothes fit me. I don't want to go anywhere or see anyone. etc. etc. blah blah blah & so on. SO! I'm on my 4th day w no Effexor & only 4 Tramadol a day. I'm going thru hell but trying my hardest to stay off of it. I will!!
407790 tn?1397761026 ve been on just about every antidepressant on the market for the past 20 years and miraculously none of them made me gain weight...until Pristiq. I gained 10 pounds on it—not a ton of weight but I'm short so it really shows. I'm now in the process of going off it. My question is this: Have people been able to lose weight after discontinuing an antidepressant that made them gain? I'm worried this drug has permanently messed with my metabolism.
Avatar m tn I have taken both but effexor was harder to taper off of. I know they cause a slight weight gain, if you are exercising and watching calories that isn't a problem. I too struggle with all this but I am just too hyper and the brain moves too fast if I am not taking one.
Avatar f tn I was on Zoloft and seemed to gain some weight so i went back to Cymbalta and its right for me.... everyone is different though so I give u the advice to keep trying until you find one thats for you.... im only 24 years old and due to guys screwing me over and depression running in my family ...
Avatar m tn lower back & right leg pain NOT very consistent 2001 after 2nd pregnancy. lower back & right leg pain VERY consistent 2006 after 3rd pregnancy. 2007 the start of wanting to chop my right leg off every night from the constant pain. 2008 dr prescribed me every pain med to try what helps. Tramadol 50mg 1/3xs a day was the winner! later that same year got in 2 car accidents. 1st one was horrible. hit from behind on the highway, spun around, & flipped over a couple of times.
Avatar n tn I sometimes think doctors don't tell you the real percentage of weight gain with a drug. I was on cipralex for years and it didn't matter how much I worked out, weight loss was minimal. On a high carb diet and no excercise, I gained 40 or so lbs. Everytime I go off of cipralex I lose weight. I don't care what they say, cipralex causes weight gain. I was on mirtzapanine for a short while and I felt happy for once but together with the cipralex the 30 lbs came back within a month!
Avatar f tn As the mother of 2 young active boys, I want to be able to participate in all our summer activities.Feeling heavy, fat and slow... My internist said the Effexor is definitely the weight gain culprit. Have now been on a strict diet with exercise for the past 7 days..only to gain 2lbs...SO do you know anyone that managed to lose this weight?
1128643 tn?1262483649 What your doctor will probably do is cut down the Celexa completely and give you 60mg Cymbalta after your first week on Cymbalta. 60mg will be your regular dose, 30mg is the starting dose.
1442059 tn?1340240952 I was on cymbalta for about 18 months (after effexor and before that lexapro). It did ok--only side effect I noticed was weight gain. Withdrawal is VERY bad however as when I ran out of meds and could not get refill in time etc. Just in last month I noticed withdrawal like symptoms culminating in a crash over abott a week's time that i never hope I repeat.
711224 tn?1344771687 Remeron has been associated with increased appetite and weight gain. Some antidepressants that causes less weight again include Wellbutrin, Celexa, and Trazodone.
Avatar n tn Hi. I'm on tamoxifen so I can't take any meds which inhibit cyp2D6 enzymes. I've been on almost ALL SSRI ( Effexor, lexapro, celexa, nortriptyline, fetzima, & viibryd) & my depression worsens with them (suicidal thoughts, etc). The only one that has helped is remeron but every time I've had to return to remeron I gain weight. I'm usually 110-112 and eat very well & workout almost everyday.
Avatar f tn I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain. Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.
Avatar n tn I had sweating with Effexor and Cymbalta. It's not just the discomfort; you don't want to add sweating if you already have oily skin - breakouts. I think Prozac caused it, but I'm not sure. I'm currently getting by with a very low dose of amitriptyline. Not a lot of sweating with it, but it can cause weight gain and constipation. I need to gain weight right now, so it's okay.
Avatar f tn I got myself down to 37.5 ER a year ago from 150....and I was siick to death of the weight gain, sexual side effects, etc. I am a 21 year old college senior and have been on this shyt since 10th grade, or age 15. SO wrong. I decided I was done. I knew this was gonna suck because Im one of those people who if they forgot their dose the night before would know it the second I'd wake up. UGHHHHH forgot my damn Effexor.
Avatar n tn Does Effexor xr promote weight gain or loss? Also, it is sooooooooo expensive, is there an alternative?
Avatar n tn I just tried Wellbutrin because I read that it had fewer side effects than others and may help lose weight (and I had just tried Cymbalta and Effexor and didn't like the side effects)...I was a little hesitant to try Wellbutrin since I had success with Prozac in the past, which works on Serotonin (like Zoloft) and Wellbutrin works on Dopamine (a completely different drug)...
