Coughing phlegm chills

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing phlegm chills

coughing

My throat is killing me.. I don't cough up phlegm as often, its more of a dry cough now with some phlegm every now and then. I'm coughing every 5 minutes at least it seems and it just feels like my throat is being ripped apart. I decided I'd quit smoking pot until this passes, as I was doing so the other night and it just hurt really bad too. Anyways any advice? Do I just have a sore throat that needs to pass? I'm thinking of picking up some throat spray today...
For the last ten days I have had phlegm that was red at the beginning and is now brown. I have light coughs which are not so bad. My throat has been sort of dry and a little sore. It occurred to me that a couple of months ago that I had blood in my phlegm after I got water into my nose in the swimming pool. Can it be connected to the swimming pool (chlorine) water? When should I tell about it to my doctor?
My grandmother, 70 years of age, is suffering from cough, it has now been around 6 months she has been coughing occasionaly until recently we took her to a doctor who prescribed 2 tablets with a syrup, but now she says that after taking this phlegm comes out and makes me cough, i have been observing, she coughs for like 2 hours sometimes at night. She complains weakness, anxiety and body ache.
after that though, i have not been feeling well. im feeling some tightness on the chest, a bit of phlegm on my throat (though not a full blown cough), feverish both in the day and night, and feeling cold and sweaty. now am so scared i do have the hiv despite what the doctor told me. i went for an hiv test yesterday in other clinic but was told the results will not be available immediately. i was told to try calling later today. am so scared i will get a positive result.
I cough up thick yellow phlegm and wheeze terribly every day from about 10 AM until 1 PM. By late afternoon I am absolutely fine. At night when I go to sleep I feel something (phlegm?) deep in my throat. However, I do NOT feel anything draining from my sinuses any more (as I did at the very beginning of all of this), nor is my nose runny, nor do I feel any sinus pressure. Allergy medicine has had no affect. Should I be worried? What could this be? Allergies? Infection? Please help.
anyway, last night I was up most off the night with the cough, chills, etc...Today at church I had to leave because I was coughing so bad...I am drained and exhausted. I have been on the couch since Tuesday...I can't seem to get better...I am drinking lots of liquids a gallon of wtaer a day plus OJ and homemade chicken soup...any suggestions...can I be harming the baby? THank you so much and thank you for being here!!
Is it normal, or usual for a heavy marijuana smoker (numerous times daily for 6+ years), to be coughing up clear phlegm with dark gray/brown globular matter encased in it, mainly in the mornings and randomly in small amounts throughout the day? In the mornings there are much more dark pieces in clear phlegm, and when it randomly happens throughout the day, it is just small specks or chunks encased in clear phlegm.
I’m coughing up cloudy sometimes yellow phlegm and sometimes when I can’t cough it up it just rattles in there….but it’s deep not shallow like post-nasal drip type coughing. 1) I am wondering if it is possible that I’ve just had a nasty virus..or maybe caught two back to back.. this whole time & all of these antibiotics are maybe useless? Should I push for a culture? 2) The Dr. says if the Ceftin does not work then he’s ordering a CT Scan of the lungs & the sinuses.
I woke up on Saturday morning having a hard time breathing, within a couple of hours I was experiencing horrible body pain especially in my back and legs. had chills and a bad headache. A deep wet cough started early evening and through the night. Does any body know what this was?
fatigue, weak, periodica low-grade fever/chills, generally lousy - not as bad as when admitted but a bit worse since discharge. PET scan scheduled for next week. Questions: Does it sound like the cancer perhaps has returned? Is a chronic cough common after lung removal? (Worse upon lying down, talking, bending forward, quick movements) Could we be overlooking something we ought to be investigating? She was in awfully good shape in April and is in awfully bad shape now.
Like you I was originally told that I had acid reflux which was crazy. My cough is a strong itch more under my right ear than in my chest; the cough is never in my chest, just in this location. I can press my finger on the area and cause myself to cough. If I am eating something (especially salty foods) and swallow, if a grain of food gets on the area I start to cough. If I lay on my right side and have sinus drainage, I cough.
Hello, Cough and/or coughing up phlegm are symptoms you may not necessarily have. The definitive diagnosis of pneumonia is based on chest xray with combination of symptoms. So, your situation is possible. I remember I had pneumonia as a child with the only symptom of vomiting. My mother took me to the hospital and a diagnosis of pneumonia was made based on my chest xray.
Meanwhile, my children got sick, my sister started getting sick and about 6 days after feeling much better (though not 100%), I felt pretty bad again. This time, I had a dry cough, weak, chills, low grade fever and chest pain (as if I'd swallowed a hard candy or two) - and back pain - same height area (lungs), only on the back --very scary.
I had flu then i got chills and now my chest is congested and coughing with a viscous yellowish phlegm.
Hi I was wondering if someone could let me know what they might think is going on here... symptoms began with mild sore throat one day; very early next morning chills, nausea, dry heaving, phlegm(thick w blood, but only with a blood a couple times) feeling weak...moved onto even stronger sore throat on the right side as well as right ear itching, coughing, nasal congestion; then was just mainly coughing, some phlegm and just then annoying coughing... sore throat seemed to be going away...
Still waiting for the results on this as my doctor went on Vacation for 3 weeks just when she should have recieved the results. I was sick again last week, and my cough which started as a Wet cough turned to a semi-Dry cough is now back to a Wet cough. And I got mucus by the truck loads over here! My doctor has mentioned Asthma but I do not suffer from weezing. She did mention my openings in my nose are a little smaller. Any advice or anything you can give me is greatly appreciated...
I had a hoarse voice then it turned to a cough which produce coloured phlegm. I have also had a runny nose with a neverending snot supply. I don't feel tired and I function well but I am hampered by this phlegm. I went to the clinic twice and was first prescribed antibiotics for bronchitis but they didn't work. Then I got prescribed Avelox and that lessened it but I still have this stuff now and it has been almost 2 weeks.
I have a severe headache, a fever and cough.. i barely can speak! I tried everything hot shower, cold shower drinking hot drinks resting for a lot of time and covering my body with the blanket including my head til I'm sweating!!! but nothing works.. I am in a hostel no matter how many times i go to the clinic they just give panadol and that's it. it's been going on for almost a week..I really need help cause i can't risk skipping classes x.x; and i can't get a good night sleep!
I have a fever with chills, i have pain in my chest, it hurts to talk and cough and breathe, and when I do cough I taste phlegm and blood. I also noticed that the lymph node behind my right ear is swollen. I don't think it's bronchitis, I get chronic bronchitis in the winter, its more of a pain by my voice box because I'm losing my voice which has NEVER happened to me before, but I feel terrible and noticed I am wheezing.
Every time I get a cold the cold itself is not very bad but about 4-5 days into the cold…just when the cold symptoms (stuffy/runny nose, chills, fever, swollen glands, etc) start to get better I start having problems with my chest. My chest gets tight and I cannot cough up phlegm.
Ok i am a 29 year old male i used to smoke marijuana in cigar paper everyday but stopped several days ago before I became sick for several days coughing, body aches the chills head and sinus pains wheezing and no appetite while most of those symptoms stopped after several days the coughing and wheezing has stayed what concerns me is that I am wheezing still and sometimes coughing up a clearer phlegm (the phlegm 3days prior was dark green to yellow but is now more clear yellowish) with slight tra

Hi, I'm a 24 year old male. I've been having dry coughs for 3 weeks now and I'm worried. I have been taking medicine for more than 2 weeks now but the coughing still persists. I thought that I might have TB so I searched the internet for symptoms and three of those listed matches what I have been experiencing.
On Sunday morning, I played softball and I felt fine but then Sunday night I went to work and ended up getting fever and chills along with a dry, hacking cough. I went home and took some over the counter pain reliever/fever reducer pills which caused me to sweat a lot overnight. On Monday the fever and chills continued with the cough. On Tuesday I went to see the doctor and she prescribed me Bactrim which did absolutely nothing for me.
Around early to mid February, I got sick - either a really bad case of the cold or it was the flu. I had chills, malaise, body aches, and after a few days, a sore throat and productive cough. I had a 10-day course of antibiotics for my severe sore throat, which helped. The productive cough turned to a dry cough, and the other symptoms disappeared. We're now entering late March. Almost 2 weeks ago, I went to a walk-in clinic because I still had a dry cough.
with a slight cough (not NEAR as much as before) that is SOMEWHAT productive (sometimes it's dry, sometimes some phlegm comes up), but I hardly cough at night, and I cough a lot LESS during the day, but I STILL COUGH. Now, on about day #13, I all of the sudden out of nowhere get a stuffy/runny nose. That was NOT an initial symptom, so I'm a bit confused about this. Why the nose issue when the cough is slowly getting better?!
My doctor put me on a course of prednisone, which did nothing. The cough brings up a foaming white phlegm, and sometimes causes heart palpitations. Ever since then, I have had chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting spells, weakness, back pain, a worseneing cough, low grade fever, chills, rash on my belly or chest, and nausea. The swollen lymph nodes have also returned.
[ Symptoms ] Cough Headache maybe 3 times so far in the 3 months The first month It was a dry cough but now I have phlegm in my throat. I have slept with a fan for the passed 15 years and now when I breathe in the air I cough even more. I was put on a MethylPREDNISolone Pak 4mg which helped but a week later it came back. My chest kind of feels congested , like a small heavy weight on my chest, I can breathe fine and I work out twice a day and I have no fatigue or anything while working out.
Pneumonia may begin with a fever. Other symptoms may include chills, headache, a dry cough, a general feeling of discomfort and body aches. It is generally best diagnosed by chest x-ray in addition to a thorough examination. You will need to see your doctor to know for sure if you have pneumonia and what treatment would be best for you.
Coughing that is dry but sometimes brings up phlegm, chills, horrible body aches, NO fever, and sinus pain that I can feel in my teeth. Earlier in the week what began as a cold or sinus problem progressed into body chills, aches and a general malaise and feeling of having the flu. However, as lousy as I feel I dont have even a slight fever, though the body aches make me feel like I have 103. I got the H1N1 vaccine last April, 2010. Now its Jan 2011.
