Common Questions and Answers about Coughing phlegm chills

coughing

I wasn't feeling sick at all, but for some reason I just started coughing up a lot of phlegm.. clearish to yellow colored. I don't smoke cigarettes, only on the occassional weekend. I do smoke pot. Anyways I thought the phelgm coughing up mighta been caused by some resin I was smoking, but they said that was black phlegm, not clearish yellow... So a few days pass of coughing up phlegm, and now I'm sitting here.. irritated... i had the chills last night, I woke up several times..
I started the antibiotic but had a bad reaction to it (fever, chills, heart palpitations, etc.). Went back to the doctor the next day who took me off the antibiotic and told me just to proceed with the two inhalers. I did this for about two weeks with no results whatsoever. On the advice of a friend, I tried another antihistamine (generic Zyrtec). It's been about 5 days and no results.
Is it normal, or usual for a heavy marijuana smoker (numerous times daily for 6+ years), to be coughing up clear phlegm with dark gray/brown globular matter encased in it, mainly in the mornings and randomly in small amounts throughout the day? In the mornings there are much more dark pieces in clear phlegm, and when it randomly happens throughout the day, it is just small specks or chunks encased in clear phlegm.
Little washed out and place where nose meets throat felt somewhat tender. Also was coughing up a pretty small amount of bloody phlegm that had that metallic/sweet taste that makes one think of infection. It's 4:30 now and other than that part of throat still feeling a little tender I feel fine. What in world did/do I have?
I had flu then i got chills and now my chest is congested and coughing with a viscous yellowish phlegm.
could all these things be linked, could i have a hyper allergic reaction to something which triggers of the coughing, hte violent coughing inturn has weakend the pshinter muscle in my chest and produced the hernia? could the acid reflux or the gas given off by the extra acid be now triggering the violent coughing fits? and inturn then damaging my vocal cords?.
then was just mainly coughing, some phlegm and just then annoying coughing... sore throat seemed to be going away... then i wakeup the next morning with it getting stronger again, but on the left side only.. the next day really sore and left ear itch. left side of throat still store...especially in the morning time..and also phlegm every now and then... on day 12 of the saga, i went to clinic, tested for strep..negative ... today is day 14 or 15 anybody know what could be going on?
I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.

I don't know if anyone has had this kind of problem that I am having but here is what i have been getting. Last Friday night into Saturday, I started to get congested with phlegm with the tightness in my chest and thought it was my asthma but I didn't have my Proventil (rescue inhaler/albuterol), so I took Flovent which didnt help that much but helped clear some of the phlegm.
Hello, Cough and/or coughing up phlegm are symptoms you may not necessarily have. The definitive diagnosis of pneumonia is based on chest xray with combination of symptoms. So, your situation is possible. I remember I had pneumonia as a child with the only symptom of vomiting. My mother took me to the hospital and a diagnosis of pneumonia was made based on my chest xray.
-A bad cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer -Pain in the chest -Coughing up blood or sputum (phlegm from deep inside the lungs) -Weakness or fatigue -Weight loss -No appetite -Chills -Fever -Sweating at night The "bad cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer", "chills" and recurring "fever" (which happens after I feel the chills and lasts hours only) are what I have been experiencing since this dry coughs began.
This sounds like an upper respiratory infection that could involve your nose, throat, sinuses and/or your larynx. It could be from a virus, of a type that can also cause flu-like symptoms. If caused by a virus, symptoms may worsen and improve, but should definitely start to resolve at this, the ten day mark. More worrisome is that it could be a 'strep throat' or, as you suggest, also involve your lungs.
Coughing that is dry but sometimes brings up phlegm, chills, horrible body aches, NO fever, and sinus pain that I can feel in my teeth. Earlier in the week what began as a cold or sinus problem progressed into body chills, aches and a general malaise and feeling of having the flu. However, as lousy as I feel I dont have even a slight fever, though the body aches make me feel like I have 103. I got the H1N1 vaccine last April, 2010. Now its Jan 2011.
im on my second course of doxycycline and my dr. put me on a nebulizer. I am not coughing up phlegm anymore, but still don't feel better. Still sometimes feel like i am suffocating at night and am easily short of breath and get chest pain and fatigue from very little activity. Still getting chest or abdominal rashes and chills. I wonder if we might have a fungal or viral infection. My dr. told me that if I don't get better he might have to do a CT scan or a sputum culture.
I have a bad cough and im coughing up phlegm plus my back and chest hurt. kind of a tickle feeling in my chest and back. do i have pneumonia or is this just part of the flu. i dont have a fever and im not feeling especially ill.
but now dicscomfort in in my chest. no fever or chills. just have had a cough prior to the pain, and now the cough is mainly in the morning when i wake coughing up sputnum white/green occasionally with blood spots. Pain comes and goes usually goes away when laying down. any cause for concern. Pneumonia keeps coming up in my research but i think im overthing reacting and could be pulled muscle of some sort.
I think my sinuses are starting to get better but my lungs are still “wet”. I’m coughing up cloudy sometimes yellow phlegm and sometimes when I can’t cough it up it just rattles in there….but it’s deep not shallow like post-nasal drip type coughing. 1) I am wondering if it is possible that I’ve just had a nasty virus..or maybe caught two back to back.. this whole time & all of these antibiotics are maybe useless? Should I push for a culture? 2) The Dr.
It all started when I got achey/slight fever/chills for 2 days in a row. Well, those were my only symptoms, and they disappeared after 2 days. I felt FINE for 2 days after that, but then the following day I started to have a dry/scratchy/nonproductive cough along with a dry/scratchy/somewhat painful "sore" throat. I had this "nonproductive" cough and painfully scratchy/dry throat for about 4 days, and then one day the throat pain went away, and the cough turned productive.
There is a virus going around that causes you to have a fever, chills, and coughing with lots of phlegm.....I have it now. I have never coughed up so much phlegm!! But with congestion you don't want to lie around, this doesn't allow it to break up. So your doctor is right is telling you to move around more. If the phlegm is clear or yellow you're fine, if it gets green you need to let your doctor know. I hope this helps, and that you feel better real soon.
It then progresses into chest congestion or travels up into the ears and the sinuses. You’ll have a low grade fever, mild chills, and a runny nose. Even if you start out with a runny nose, eventually, you’ll have throat symptoms later on. Sounds like a classic cold, right? When you see your doctor, throat redness and irritation and swollen glands are noted, confirming even further that you’re in the middle of a standard upper respiratory infection, or the common cold.
Last week Sunday, I developed a very sore throat, pressure in my ears, nasal congestion, coughing, chills, fever, etc. I went to the doctor on Wednesday, after having a 103 fever x2 days. Doctor said it was a URI and I had bilateral ear infections, gave me a prescription for Amoxicillin 875, and told me to start taking it if the fever lasted for another 24 hours. I started the amoxicillin on Thursday. No relief of symptoms at all, other than the fever is now down to a low grade of 100.0.
anyway, last night I was up most off the night with the cough, chills, etc...Today at church I had to leave because I was coughing so bad...I am drained and exhausted. I have been on the couch since Tuesday...I can't seem to get better...I am drinking lots of liquids a gallon of wtaer a day plus OJ and homemade chicken soup...any suggestions...can I be harming the baby? THank you so much and thank you for being here!!

10 days ago I began to feel sick. 8 days ago I had sore throat, congestion, minor headache, body aches and cough. I spent 4 days in bed with most of same symptoms. The constants were sore throat and congestion. No fever. Chills once for a short period. During this time I was expelling a little phlegm both through throat and nose, mostly in am when awakening and in the shower. I went to work after 4th day. Felt fair during day, nights were usually bad.
Sometimes it was a harsh cough that hurt my throat, with no phlegm. Sometimes it was it was a very rough moist cough that felt like my bronchs, trachea, and my upper lungs were being torn out of me. It would hurt for a long while after these coughing fits. Day four (today): woke up, blew my nose and out came more green/grey stuff. First cough of the day and a large wad of green/grey phlegm came up.
Almost over this ****, but still coughing phlegm up in the morning that's pretty thick and nasty. After that, I'm usually fine through out the day, maybe a cough here and there.

My son has had a persistant cough for approximately seven weeks and I have had it for approximately four weeks. The cough consists of severe coughing bouts and then, for the most part, we're fine in between these bouts. My son has seen the doctor three times so far...first time they said it was a viral infection in the windpipe, the second time they said it was a lung infection and prescribed antibiotics and the third they said his asthma was playing up and put him onto a preventer inhalor.
