Coughing phlegm after eating

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing phlegm after eating

coughing

After every time I eat anything I begin coughing until I get the phlegm out of my throat. It is always clear, but it is quite thick. This has been going on for 4 to 5 years, but it didn't used to be so bad. It used to happen only after I ate spicy food or food that was really hot. Now it happens after everything that I eat. I do not seem to have any other symptoms. I do smoke about 1 pack every 2 weeks, so not that often, but i do.
Lived with a father who smoked, and he himself seemed to have the same problem. Coughing up phlegm, tons of mucus. My mother had to wash so many handkerchiefs. We lived on a farm back then, and now I live on a farm as well, and have a husband who also smokes. It seems after I finish eating I often have lots of clear mucus that needs to get out. I can feel like it all situated in my nasal cavity, plus it needs to leave my throat as well. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink.
I too have been having coughing attacks where I cough until I vomit. I am on acid reflux meds and nasal spray to help postnasal drip. This has been going on for about 2 months. I had this before about 3 years ago. The dr. tells me there is nothing they can do about it. It's really bad in the fact I can't go anywhere without having facial tissue and a sack or something to vomit in, cause I never know when I'll have an attack. Usually I cough up a lot of phlegm, but sometimes I actually vomit.
Hi, I used to have the problem of coughing and lot's of mucus after eating. If I laid down right afterward, the mucus would come up in my throat and it would feel as though I couldn't breathe. None of the over-the-counter antiacids helped me. It wasn't until I started taking Nexium that I got any relief at all. I also have post-nasal drip, so it was a combination of things that was causing the cough, but once I got those things treated, the cough and the mucus went away.
I have had the same cough for several years. It's always after I eat. I've been to all kinds of doctors and have tried all kinds of medicines but the only thing that ever helped me was Prednisone. The problem is that it's a steroid and doctors don't like to give it because it has side effects, but I can take it for 7 days and then I'm good for a couple of months with absolutely no coughing. When it starts again I take it for another week.
Hi Gary, I'd like to know, I've had the coughing up phlegm after eating for the last two years, I don't drink alcohol or smoke and no doctor can fix it either. They just give me drugs that affect other parts of my body so I won't take anything now. Do you have a natural remedy. I'd like to know as would many other sufferers out there.
My 2-year old coughs excessively while eating/after swallowing. Sometimes, she will spit up everything she has eaten. I have tried to keep track to see if there are certain foods that cause the coughing, but it seems to be all of it. Any suggestions?
Apparently it worked because since that time- I've had had no reoccurance of Sinusitis (50 odd years Last night I tried the method and for the first time in two months I slept through the night without coughing nor expectorating phlegm ..and today, I've been phlegm free....the first time since Late October. I'll keep using the technique for a few days until I'm sure the problem has passed... If you don't find another thread response on this particular theme ..I'm either cured...or DEAD...
The phlegm is not affected by eating habits nor exercise. Otherwise, he is and has been in very good health (and thus does not believe it is necessary to see his doctor). However, I would like to know why he is producing so much phlegm and if there should be cause for concern. Thank you!
In the past few weeks I have noticed that I cough causing phlegm to rise in my chest after I have eaten. It is every mealtime and nothing specific triggers it other than food. After a couple of coughs it's all clear again until my next meal. Can you please enlighten me as to what may be happening?
com/health/milk-allergy/DS01008 See a doctor or allergist if you experience food allergy symptoms shortly after eating. If possible, see your doctor when the allergic reaction is occurring. This will aid in making a diagnosis. Let us know if you need any other information and post us about what your doctor advises. Regards.
I tried running one lap of the track and shortly there after I started coughing. Throughout that night and that next day I was coughing up yellow phlegm. I'm not sure what this means, but I really don't want to go to the doctors and waste my money. They'll just give me some nose spray, inhalers and send me on my way. If anyone can help please feel free to email me at tes_scott***@**** Thank you. Good Luck Everyone!
Excessive coughing-mucus after eating/mucus after meals =========================================== During Acidity /GERD I faced another issue. After each meal I started to spill out these small thick spits/or mucus which would last for around 1 hour after each meal. Guys this is really strenuous, as I was facing one problem after another. I called up my doctor to find why this was happening and her first question was, did I had cough/cold recently?.
Does not occur while working, Feels like a chokepoint, makes me constantly cough and try to remove phlegm with difficulty often leading to partialregurgitation of previous meal, followed by dry mouth. I've had nasal drip and sinus issues since childhood, I am 24 now and cannot go 10 minutes without coughing and spitting. Too embarrassed to date, No bad breath as I have seen in other posts, I don't think it's psychological given my past struggles with this issue.
I'm now approaching 50 and every morning I have heavy phlegm and as I begin to be active each day I need to cough heavily-occasionally bringing about a mild vomiting reaction. The worst sensations go away but for the remainder of the day I feel a great deal of phlegm in my sinuses (no pain or complete blockage) and I'm stuffed up or constantly clearing my throat. Everyone at work knows my throat-clearing cough. Through the day the symptoms diminish but never go completely away.
I thought I was problem-free from then on, but recently (around March 20, 2008), I've had trouble with excessive coughing and extremely adhesive yellowish-green phlegm for almost 2 weeks. Then for the next seven days, I took an antibiotic and Endorsteine(?) Zertin (through a friend's recommendation) which was medication for acute bronchitis though I was only 75% sure that my condition was even bronchitis.
After reading the other excessive coughing/mucus after eating thread which directed here, I just wanted to add my voice. I have a similar problem. After I eat I start producing an excess of mucus in my throat/sinuses. Mostly throat. I don't choke or anything but it's uncomfortable if I don't clear it. I doubt this is acid reflux. Why would acid produce excess mucus? Also, why would acid reflux not have any symptoms of heart burn or sore throat, or anything of that nature?
dairy in any form? Sugar in any form? or fried food of any form? Candida is a type of yeast overgrowth, that is fed by the above. Usually when out of control, your palate will itch, your nose, and your throat. This is only from my own personl experiences, as I have problems with phlem. I had candida years ago, and found out through my allergist, I was allergic to dairy, and molds. Commonly go together as I understand.
The muscle pain went away and came back. Now the thick clear phlegm has a horrible taste. I'm not really coughing so I'm not sure if it's coming from sinuses or down in my throat or bronchials. Sometimes it had flecks of light brown in it. Any idea what all this could be?
For about a year now, it feels like I have phlegm/mucus stuck in my throat and can't completely clear my throat. Also when I cough, its a lil wet and there is phlegm. When I started to have the problem, I went to the doc and he said it just may be sinuses and sent me on my way... but never went away. I went to the doc while I was in Basic Training in SC... then went to GA for 4 months... back to FL for a few months (where i use to live) and now I am in NC....
Also get the excessive mucous after eating for about 4 years now. I hate going out to eat with others becuase of the need to blow my nose every five seconds...
Every single day, from when I wake up to the time I go to bed (if I can get sleep), I am constantly coughing or clearing my throat. The phlegm is usually white, sometimes with a bit of yellow. It is almost always extremely thick and a large amount. Sometimes in the afternoon or night, the phlegm is stringy and chokes me. There are some days that I cough up phlegm about every 5 minutes.
