Coughing green phlegm in the morning

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing green phlegm in the morning

Avatar n tn It sort of comes and goes. I cough fairly regularly producing phlegm - one morning it can be green and thick and my chest feels congested and the next it's more white phlegm and I feel more normal. What's up? in the past I would get a sinus infection, take my antibiotics and it clears. I have avoided the treatment but maybe I should do it anyway as a precaution. Is that wise?
Avatar n tn My nose seems to most of the time be quite stuffed, so I dont know if this is from dry sinuses or something like that, and there is no blood in the phlegm later in the day, just a small amount in the morning. Within the last two months, I have had a chest Xray and everything was fine on it, as well as hematology, where again everything was fine. This blood in the phlegm is actually starting to bother me, although I assume it's most likely a sinus thing, but cannot be sure.
Avatar n tn For the last few months I have been coughing up thick green phlegm everyday (sometimes it feels like there is some kind of matter inside of it-ew). It is usually mostly in the mornings, but I continue to have problems with drainage throughout the day. I am a vocal music student and my voice teacher suggested that I see an ENT. I dont have athsma, and have no known allergies; and other than the drainage I feel great. What could possibly be causing this and what can I do to treat it? Thank you!
Avatar f tn was wondering if anyone knows why I would have blood in my phlegm. When I wake up in the morning, I always cough up a lot of phlem but have noticed in the past few months, I also have experienced some blood in my phlem & also when I blow my nose. I also have some green phlegm that I cough up. I brought it to my ENT doctor's attention & he had no idea why I had blood in my phlegm. I was reading on the internet that its possibly due to infection.
Avatar m tn This time the soreness persisted the whole entire day. I went to bed last night with a lot of phlegm in my throat and woke up this morning with a lot of soreness and phlegm once again. I tried to hack up the phlegm. Most of it was clear or yellow. then I managed to get a real good one... I hacked up a real thick sample that was directly from my throat, and spit it out onto a tissue. I noticed a streak of blood on the tissue mixed with yellow phlegm.
Avatar n tn I do not have any problems or discomfort with my breathing. there is no itching. I vomit a thick clear mucous. I can't really determine if it's in my lungs/chest or in my throat. Probably more in my throat. the x-rays I had taken came back clear on my lungs. If I take a deep breath, I immediately start another coughing bout. Any comments/suggestions?
Avatar n tn I had an allergic reaction to amoxcillin a few weeks ago and have generally been unwell since, this cough came from no where, did not have a cold but did have sore throat, in the morning and through the night is worse, coughing up green phlegm and being sick eventually, i even resorted to using my sons inhaler as wheezy and chest seems highly irritated all the time, extremely lethargic and having high temp normally at night, i am totally fed up and i do feel unwell, i cant sleep well and i have
Avatar n tn For the last month, I have been coughing, ranging fromn a dry hacking cough to a productive cough. I have had asthma attacks, mainly at night and in the morning and sometimes during the day. their diagnosis initially was bacterial sinusitis. they started me on humabid and motrin...then a Z-pack, then amitex and pseudophed, then tylenol and tesselon perles, then allegra, now thinking it is allergies. Last year, I coughed in a similar fashion for about 2 1/2 months.
Avatar n tn 12 for a repaired mitral valve that we were told was ripped. from the day after surgery she has been coughing. in the morning it is yellowish/green and then through the day it is clear. the coughing can be severe at times that it limits her ability to speak. Has anyone experienced this? She has had several chest xrays and they have been clear. She did have pneumonia one week after surgery and was hospitalized for another week. Any suggestions/ideas?
Avatar m tn no fever but i was tired and the coughing was worse in the evening and in the morning i would get bad attacks and it was very hard to cough up the phlegm. the phlegm at the time was a thick grey/green mucous. I took some chinese herbs that helped me in the past and the cough finally went away after about 5 weeks. however i still have a residual cough at night and in the morning. not producing much phlegm now but when i do its lighter and easier to hack up.
Avatar f tn the thing about TCM is that the treatments are tailored to treat the individual, not the symptoms. Everyone's body is different and even though we may all present with similar symptoms, the reason for this will vary, and taking someone else's herbal prescription may be completely ineffective or may exasperate the condition, especially if there is any other pattern going on simultaneously (which is usually the case).
Avatar n tn It is MUCH worse in the morning (especially in the shower...), and after eating. I also have a stuffed\runny nose that accompanies it. So when the cough acts up, my nose does aswell. It's pretty clear to me that it has something to do with the nasal fluid, but I don't have a solution. My doctor, while a very nice guy, is pretty set on just giving me antibiotics and sending me on my way (which didn't work, by the way). I'd like to know if there is a way I can solve this myself?
Avatar n tn But last night i was on a road trip riding along with someone else and stopped for a pit stop, walking into the mens room and found myself coughing on the way in and picking myself up off the mens room floor. I hope some one out there has an answer for what this is and how to beat it and make it go away faster.
Avatar f tn More frequent when I've been swimming, are in cold rainy weather. Always have it first thing in the morning and usually I have a mild sore throat when waking which is relieved quickly when phlegm has been expelled. the phlegm colour ranges from clear to green to these days being brown. A good lot of the time it is hardened. Have had blood spots in it in the past but seldom. I generally feel well, just tired. Don't often get colds. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.
Avatar n tn This soreness was accompanied by a few productive coughs, which brought up yellow-green phlegm. After I finished the Zepac, the phlegm resumed being clear/white. It is now two weeks after I finished the Zepac, the cough continues and so does the phlegm. So I go and see an ENT, who does a laryngoscopy, throat culture and chest X-ray. All normal he said, although the laryngoscopy revealed "a little redness in the throa.
Avatar m tn in the morning my phlegm seems to have color, sometimes greenish, sometimes brownish. there's no cough, just a feeling at the back of my throat that I need to clear. Sometimes there's a little streak of blood in it, but usually it's just clumpy green or brown.
Avatar n tn you can imagine how dangerous this was wit me then vomiting all over the dash board of the car, out for a nice meal and a certain smell of certain food would have me threwing up all over the resturaunt coughing is as exactly as is described in other comments in this tpoic to the letter . one other thing is my voice goes hoarse and last year i had to have vocal cord nodules removed, i fear these are back again..
Avatar m tn I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. the last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
Avatar n tn Looked through several web sites and read several forums and realized that it may have something to do with the phlegm in my throat. in the morning I gag and I am constantly swallowing to get the phlegm out from the back of my throat. the taste and feel of it back there makes me nauseated so I try and eat something to removed it hoping it will push down with food.
Avatar n tn two weeks ago i noticed that when i woke up in the morning i had a small amt of blood in my sputum. i went to the dr two days ago becuase i noticed this again when i coughed. she told me that it was more than likely my sinuses being dry becuase i did have the appearance of an infection in my sinuses. i dont have a cough really at all and i dont have sob adn i dont have pain or wheezing. she listened to my lungs adn she said they sounded good.
Avatar n tn I am 15 years old and have a cold, I caught the cold of my brother and now I am worried because my symptoms differ greatly from his. I have a very sore throat, I wake up in the morning feeling very dizzy and i am coughing up very dark, thick green phlegm is this normal?
Avatar n tn Without enough bile soup, the fat wraps around the food waste, giving your intestines a hard time to absorb and move them around. I wake up in the middle of the night because of this and wake up in the morning extremely thirsty and tired. I found to work around this, you need to eat low fat, and take vitamin supplements such as Centrum. After 3 days you can feel better. If not, look into Celiac Sprue and stay on a gluten free diet for a few days. Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps through.
574129 tn?1231461402 I do believe that it is quite possible that sitting in a small, heated room is part of the problem, because after sitting in the big opened up place in the living room all day, I actually started feeling somewhat better. I'm really not sure, but coughing mucus out of my throat and sucking in my snot to let it drain down my throat and then coughing it up again may be making it better or probably worse. I'd really love to find out what's causing this and how I can fix it.
Avatar m tn in fact, hot running water is not essential to this technique—but the steam provided by the hot water helps loosen the phlegm and pustulence in your sinuses. 5. the FLIP-TURN SinUS FLUSH If you want the saline to be warm, which is more comfortable, place the filled squeeze bottle in a cup or glass of hot tap water before you get in the shower. Don’t submerge the top of the squeeze bottle in the hot tap water, because water from your hot water heater has things you don’t want to know about.
Avatar m tn gave me a corticosteroid nasal spray works well but doesn't stop the pressure in head/eyes. the phlegm used to be clear until when the sinus problem started and it just keeps going bacl to my throat . Colour yellow/green. I alwasy have to cough on purpose to relieve the phlegm like 100 times a day. I have gone also to GUM clinic for STD tests and all fine. Did vitamin, iron, B12 and throid tests and all fine. I will see my Dr. tmr and ENT when I get back home in December.
Avatar m tn I have the same problem with phlegm getting in the way of my speaking and singing voice, and cutting out milk has certainly helped, but not entirely. It is reassuring to read that others share the same problem. As a choral singer I find that I cannot rely on the clarity of my voice from one day to the next and this is frustrating beyond belief.
Avatar n tn I had a cold about a month ago which left me with sneezing green snot and a constant ache in the face close to the nasal area. 2 weeks ago the symptoms in the nasal area subsided, I started coughing alot, sometimes even keeps me from sleeping. every morning I wake to cough green sometimes brown phlegm and sneeze out green snot.
