Coreg and metoprolol

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg and metoprolol

coreg

Avatar f tn Lisinopril and Metoprolol when I left the hospital, now Lisinopril and carvedilol (coreg). seems like a relatively common combination.
Avatar m tn So, my cardio took me off of the 10 mg ramipril I was taking and put me on 12.5 mg of metoprolol twice a day and in addition to my 12.5 of HCTZ. However, after a week of feeling exhausted, having a resting heart rate consistently in the low 50s, and not much higher otherwise, I complained during my follow up. My cardio gave me some samples of 10 mg coreg to take once a day and a prescription to fill if the side effects from the metoprolol do not get any better.
Avatar m tn m not a health provider either, but would ask if you could try to go on just the HCTZ and see what it does for you, or take a small dose of Metoprolol. Coreg and Metoprolol simply knock me on my butt, but I have to have these drugs because of Congestive Heart Failure, and I'm an old man. I was started on 3.175mg twice a day and slowly increased to the present dose of 50mg a day. It's a wonder drug for that condition.
Avatar m tn After being in the hospital for afib and having my heart rhythm restored, my cardiologist put me on coreg as well as coumadin. I have strange dreams and really have had a lack of energy. I expect to be slower at age 77, but not this bad.
Avatar f tn I do not like the palpitations and raised heart rate that I get off of my medication. Anyways, she wants me on metoprolol tartrate. Because I have been on the atenolol for 4 years I have concerns. Will this medication treat me the same as the atenolol. Is there a posibility of not being able to take this medication. Does it have the same action as the atenolol? I appreciate and thank whatever answers I can get. Right now I am trying to lower myself off the atenolol.
Avatar n tn What could be causing this is adrenal problem. Triggers are caffeine, black licorce, and exercise. The Metoprolol blocks this. There is a drug that is a beta blocker called "Coreg". Coreg blocks more receptors. You may want to talk to your doctor about Coreg to see if that drug will make you feel better. Stay away from the triggers and if it happens during exercise, rest. I have episodes of this also, but my episodes are only a few times a month.
Avatar m tn After the did the first stent they told us it would only be a month on Plavix but after the last episode they decided that he needed to be on it for a year. He is also taking 2 blood pressure pills, Coreg, and Zocor. So I guess it just depends on your case and your doctor.
Avatar f tn Many of us take a generic named Metoprolol to slow our heart rate...in my case my HR is always high and I do not have an ICD/Pacemaker.
Avatar m tn I was started on 3.125 mg 2x/d 4 months ago. also lisinopril and effient and lipitor. all due to an MI and stent in RCA. Dr took me off lisinopril due to dry cough about 6 weeks ago and upped coreg to 6.25 mg. cough resolved but I have been having early morning rapid heart beat (wakes me up) in recent weeks and my tinnitus has become much worse. My upper back pain which started while on drugs is also worse since the dosage went up.
Avatar m tn For example, after my bypass surgery, my heart health increased dramatically, I was on a much stronger beta blocker (Coreg) and it was discontinued and I was given Metopropolol. I still had problems like you describe. During a walk I noticed a very high heart rate, about 135 bpm which continued for hours. After about 8 hours I went to hospital, and it was determined that my pacemaker needed to be reprogrammed, my heart had become healthier than my pacemaker could adapt to.
Avatar n tn 25 with bad breathing problems, had an electro-cardioversion that brought me back to normal sinus rythem, normal breathing and again EF back up to 40% in 1-month continued on with Coreg and Digoxin for 9-months, came off the coreg and continued taking the Digitek only.
Avatar f tn Our bodies do tend to adjust to to medications and our organs do tend to get used to them and return to earlier patterns. Metoprolol is a pretty basic Beta Blocker, there are much stronger beta blockers that will indeed take your blood pressure lower, like Coreg, but drugs of that class are very difficult to take. It's possible that you need to evaluated for a different medication or perhaps a pacemaker. I'd suggest Occupant asked a very good question based on your inquiry.
19887518 tn?1486048647 I am so drowsy, tired and weak since starting Metoprolol 3 weeks ago. I take 12.5 mg twice a day with food for my afib. I wake up refreshed. Several hours later some days I feel totally fine other days drowsy. But everyday around 2:30 or 3 pm I crash hard. Very tired. After a 60 minute nap I'm still a bit drowsy but better. Now it's 11 pm and like usual I feel much better but still weaker than before the med. Is there any chance I'll get used to the drug and quit being so tired?
Avatar m tn Never had a heart attack. The Cardio put me on Metoprolol ( 50mg); Altace 2.5 mg and baby aspirin in addition to Lipitor 20mg. Sep. 2009 he took me off the Metoprolol and increased the Altace to 10 mg. My Blood potassium level at the time was perfectly normal at 3.6; after the spike in the ace-inhibitor my potassium level has risen in two months to 5.6, which I believe is an unsafe level. My family doctor has now asked me to go back to the 2.5 mg dosage and get re-tested after two weeks.
Avatar m tn Within 30 mins of taking Metoprolol, I feel the effects and I feel great. My BP and it drops to 100/60 and my heart rate drops to 70 or even 65 BPM. I don't have any side effects from this med. That being said, the issue I'm running into is that the Metoprolol doesn't seem to last as long as it should. If I take the Metaprolol at 7am, by the time 3pm comes around, my BP is 135/92 and my heart rate can get as high as 120 BPM.
Avatar m tn I also take metoprolol 25 mg and have now for 2 1/2 yrs. I had fast heart beat so they put me on it to help. Now I'm fine but like you and others say, I have noticed that I'm loosing hair, got lazy LOL and gained weight left and right like 25lbs. I just picked up my last 30 days no more auto fills from Target because the doctor has put a message on my prescription to make a appointment to see him because I have not in 16 months.
Avatar m tn I never got cold until I went on a beta blocker, Coreg. Now I have to wear socks to bed in the winter and keep a sweater handy all the time. Just a side effect.
Avatar n tn Needless to say I am now on 9.375 Coreg twice a day and Florinef .1mg twice a day and I still feel like ****. Even though my tachy is usually pretty under control, my heart rate is still high upon standing (particularly in the morning) and I feel like I might faint quite often. My head just doesn't feel like it's getting enough blood to it. My Dr thinks I'm not drinking enough water but I feel like a fish already and how much water can I drink while I'm sleeping??
Avatar n tn s basically every other day. I also take L-Carnatine 500mg Tue and Fri, Zinc and Magnesium on Monday, and CoQ10 100mg twice daily. Of course every person is different so you need to experiment. The most important thing, monitor yourself, there are those heart rate/O2 monitors and wrist-cuff blood pressure monitors available for about $15 each on that big online reseller named after that river in S. America.
Avatar f tn Hello, my doctor is currently weaning me off the beta blocker Metoprolol tartrate and he told me told me to start by taking half in the morning and half at night so I just wanted to make sure that this medication can be cut in half.....?
Avatar m tn More troubling is that I just began a cardiac rehab program, and did a treadmill workout at a speed/incline/duration (30 minutes) that I have been doing for years - so I know what my response should be. Normally, my heart rate would be around 130-135, and the coreg (presumably) kept it down around 115-120. I felt fine, and was encouraged - but afterwards, I felt extremely fatigued for the rest of the day, and had a great deal of soreness in my legs.
Avatar f tn It is a combination of Coreg and Tropol XL, I believe. This gives all the benefits of Coreg and reduces the tiredness that people complain about. Our relatives in Europe use the medication and have energy to travel to US and all around the states. I am not sure what the name will be of the medication when it becomes available in the US. Salmon, fish oil, and dark chocolate have been shown to raise HDL levels. Your level should be in the 50's if you can get it there.
Avatar f tn The EP md changed me from being on propranolol and metoprolol to coreg this spring. I was glad to change 2 drugs for 1. I'm still on the ACE, CCB, beta-blockers and flecainide. Sometimes I don't actually know if I feel bad because of all them meds or because my heart is not in great shape. It is very hard to separate them. I'm hoping maybe there is a pill or two that I can scale down to from the 20+ a day I take.
Avatar m tn I started with toprol (metoprolol), which did NOTHING for me. In fact I would swear up and down that it actually made my symptoms worse. Next my doctor tried coreg (carvedilol) with me. Coreg not only acts as a beta-blocker (slows the heart rhythm and reduces the force of the heart's pumping, lowers blood pressure) but as an alpha-blocker (also lowers blood pressure). Coreg was exactly what my body needed.
Avatar m tn In short, mostly no. I have been on 4 beta-blockers and a couple calcium channel blockers over time. Any md sees my list and it would be assumed I have rocket high blood pressure BUT in fact any more I feel lucky to have one at all. That being said, it matters what the dose it. I was able to take a LOT of propranolol without affecting my bp too much. Coreg makes for a little more hypotension. Metoprolol, not too bad. Labetalol, one pill and I'm dizzy... but it does cut my rate down.
Avatar m tn what happened is my bp was going very low for months after being on coreg for years and accuprill too and i was feeling bad palps in chest once in awhile so i finally asked if i had afibd to there surprise my machine had recorded episodes, they thought i was reacting to the alpha in coreg and put me on toprol xl but the first day i guess the half pill wasn't enough and i had severe afib that went through the av node and caused a ventricular tach attack and i was on the floor with my defib b
Avatar n tn I had the problem with coreg (beta blocker and ace inhibitor). Coreg Cr is a single slow acting dose, and the same coreg dosage split to twice a day (morning and night) was more effective. Talk to your doctor.
Avatar f tn My electrophysiolgist/cardiologist prescribed Coreg and Lisinopril for my condition. I have episodes of ventricular tachycardia, apparently brought on by a focal wall abnormality in my left ventricle. I also have atrial fibrillation. I have an ICD as well. When I mention to other doctors that I take these medications, they insist I must have high blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure and never have.
21064 tn?1309308733 On carvedilol (aka coreg) 6.25 mg 2x a day and lisinipril 10 mg a day to help protect my heart and keep my bp down from a pregnancy induced cardiomyopathy. I have some dizziness probably from both and some short term memory issues from the coreg. Wondering if anyone else has had the memory issues w/coreg, glad my dose isn't any higher.
