Coreg for hypertension

Common Questions and Answers about Coreg for hypertension

coreg

Avatar f tn Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor and the mechanism of the agent is to dilate vessels to reduce hypertension. Metoprolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Metoprolol is used to treat angina and hypertension for high blood pressure. It is also used to treat or prevent heart attack. My regimen is Lisinopril and coreg (beta blocker).
Avatar n tn I had the problem with coreg (beta blocker and ace inhibitor). Coreg Cr is a single slow acting dose, and the same coreg dosage split to twice a day (morning and night) was more effective. Talk to your doctor.
Avatar m tn Without going into too much detail, here is my situation. 66-yo male, treated for hypertension for 25 years (well controlled). Weight is good (6'0; 180), as are most of the standard test numbers (cholesterol (LDL is 88 HDL is 39 (!), triglycerides 77, etc). Several years ago after experimenting with a variety of hypertension drugs my pcp suggested I visit a cardiologist. He put me through the ringer - stress, echo, cardiac cath.
Avatar n tn Beta-blockers have long being used as first-line therapy for hypertension as their use had resulted in a reduction in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in controlled clinical trials. A recent meta-analysis comparing beta-blockers to all other anti-hypertensive drugs taken together has found that stroke reduction was sub-optimal. Specifically, atenolol was associated with a 26% higher risk of stroke compared with other drugs.
Avatar f tn This drug is also known under the brand name of Coreg...it is a beta blocker used to treat hypertension among other things. How high is your heart rate?
Avatar f tn I was taking 100mg atenolol without food for hypertension but my glucose went up so my doctor switched me to Coreg 25mg twice a day. He said it does not matter if you take it with or without food. All i keep reading is to take with food....
Avatar n tn Bystolic and diabetic, Hypertension meds... I am tired all the time and have not been given a real idea of prognosis.
Avatar f tn My electrophysiolgist/cardiologist prescribed Coreg and Lisinopril for my condition. I have episodes of ventricular tachycardia, apparently brought on by a focal wall abnormality in my left ventricle. I also have atrial fibrillation. I have an ICD as well. When I mention to other doctors that I take these medications, they insist I must have high blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure and never have.
Avatar f tn I've been on Coreg for 2 years and it needs to be dialed in with your doctor. My BP would drift as low as 70's / 50's at times. But other than that, my bleeding has stopped. As Hector mentioned, this disease process is very individualized, so keep in touch with your medical team.
Avatar n tn My husband is 55 years old and was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy 5 years ago (may have been alcoholic cardiomyopathy?) -- he has been on coreg and lisinopril for 5 years with very few side effects -- his cardiomyopathy has resoved and his heart is "healthy" back to normal size and function. He decided to stop taking his coreg and lisinopril last week. He is weaning himself down. I think he is crazy for doing this -- especially without telling the doctor .
Avatar m tn I was able to take a LOT of propranolol without affecting my bp too much. Coreg makes for a little more hypotension. Metoprolol, not too bad. Labetalol, one pill and I'm dizzy... but it does cut my rate down. To get into the meds that affect rhythm without disturbing bp too much, you get into the antiarrhythymics and the drugs get scarier for your rhythms. So...
Avatar m tn After the did the first stent they told us it would only be a month on Plavix but after the last episode they decided that he needed to be on it for a year. He is also taking 2 blood pressure pills, Coreg, and Zocor. So I guess it just depends on your case and your doctor.
Avatar n tn She did give me the order sheet for a Thallium Stress Test, which is scheduled for the 10th of this month. My BP is currently 117/89 with a pulse of 88. Will the pulse pressure being less than 40 eventually cause me problems? You talked to me about a diuretic.... my weight has stayed pretty consistent, bouncing between 148 and 152. My lungs are clear. So why the diuretic...? And in your previous answer you said to have a stress test after the BP is controlled.
527758 tn?1246396367 I am a 32 year old female. I have had hypertension for approx. 11 years. I also have what my doctor calls promonant PVC's, I feel them quite a bit. He also believes I have IBS from earlier stomach problems. My doctor has recently changed my medication to Coreg CR. My question is this: A week ago I started having constant belching. I went to see the doctor and he put me on Protonix and that was also when he changed my blood pressure meds. This was two days ago.
Avatar f tn Did they give you any med's for the pre or hypertension? A LVEF of 37% is not good; but, not congestive heart failure. If they left off at that I would get a second opinion if possible or pester them for an explanation of why it dropped. I have just started to understand diabetes and testing. I have noticed when I'm stressed or upset my glucose numbers rise along with my BP and HR. Though as I said I'm new to this diabetes thing.
Avatar m tn are your symtoms permanent, day and night with no break? The answer is important to me because I can be fit and normal for half the day and sick and ill the rest and no doc shows any interest except in tests and pains in the heart. This discussion is related to <a href="/posts/Heart-Disease/Allergies-to-drugs-Betas--thyroid/show/2178823">Allergies to drugs. Betas, thyroid</a>.
Avatar m tn On my next cardio visit I may have to ask for a higher Coreg dose but scared about the tiredness and decrease in HR effects. My experience with Coreg is that you have to increase it very gradually and always do so with meals. It also causes me to dream a lot which in turn brings on palps and elevated systolic BP. Did you ever notice this side effect?
Avatar n tn This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it? I know that Lexapro can cause tiredness as well, but my doctor seemed to think otherwise.
907968 tn?1292622204 I imagine they're trained to know which medications work best for which heart problems. As for dosage, I'm not sure. If you look at a PDR the book mentions standard dosages for children, adults and geriatric folks. I know with the antibiotics I use at work we choose which antibiotic works best for which type of injury or specific bacteria. I always calculate dosage according to species (mammals have a different calculation compared to birds or reptiles) and weight.
406412 tn?1217438384 I take coreg twice a day and I also take hyzaar for my bp...I was wanting to know if the coreg was mainly for my heart and if it plays a big roll in my bp?
Avatar m tn He has me dropping to 12.5 of the Coreg and 50mg of the Tenormin twice a day for 4 days and then 6.25 Coreg and 50 Tenormin twice a day for 4 days, and then only the Tenormin 50 to 75 twice a day depending on BP numbers. Any one have any knowledge or thoughts about this? BTW I trust my Cardiologist but am nervous anytime I have to change meds!
Avatar n tn I had a minor heart attack in August 2008 and I had 5 stents put in. I was started on coreg 6.25 two tmes per day. The dr recently reduced me to 3.125 because of weight gain. I am still gaining weight. I decided to stop it altogether and did not tell my dr. My resting pulse is up as well as my pulse rate upon exertion. I just stopped the coreg. Will this regulate itself in a few days.
Avatar n tn Try cutting back, and it is not unusual for the heartrate not to increase very high with exercise. I believe you asked about another beta blocker as a substitute for coreg. Coreg as a dual mechanism as it also has an ACE inhibitor effects that helps dilate vessels. It is highly recommended for heart patients. Take care.
