Avatar f tn John's concussion occured over a year ago. Is it too late for treatment? What are the treatment options? He has also been on quite a few medications to deal with this sleep problems. Could any medications that are either used to help with sleep or used to promote day time wakefulness cause hperosmia?
Avatar f tn Hello, Im almost 100% certain that it wouldnt be a concussion. Even though the back of the head is the worst spot you can get hit or fall on, you would still be having tremedous pain along with other symptoms like dizzyness, blurryness, tiredness. Im sure you just had a bit of a headache for awhile.
Avatar m tn I hit it twice in a row out of anger, and afterward I experienced neck/head ache as well as extreme tiredness. I went to the doctor 4 days later after symptoms were still present and they said I had a concussion. They performed a CT scan and said everything was FINE! I was relieved to hear this. Every so often, I "tweak" the concussion in various ways, but haven't had too many symptoms other than headaches and neck/back aches.

Avatar m tn Hello, just looking for some advice. 4 weeks ago I was playing football (soccer), and was heading a ball when I received a blow to the head - on my right temple. I had to come off. I was experiencing dizziness, headache, bad vision - so I was taken to A&E...diagnosed with concussion and sent home.
407029 tn?1253992623 If it is abnormal for YOU then call a doctor - everybody has different tolerance levels at different times in treatment but only you can really tell what is out of the ordinary. Rest is one of the most important but underspoken about things during treatment...without enough of it on the weekend I NEVER would have made it through work during the week. Which is why I created my Saturday "Day of Rest" I still love it and wish I could have it back!
163305 tn?1333668571 Many doctors think the best treatment for fibromyalgia is thyroid replacement hormones, since fibromyalgia was not even a condition until the mid 1980's when it was decided that TSH would be the "gold standard" for thyroid testing and because the range was too wide, many people who had previously been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, were now left with no diagnosis...
Avatar f tn Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. In addition, patient may experience either migraine type or tension type headache. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury.
Avatar f tn Im doing an I-Search paper for my Honors English 3 class, and I would like to know a little about memory loss. If you could tell me how it occurs, some treatment options, how it affects the person, and the medical reason that it happens, (such as what happens in the brain to make it forget, other than a bump on the head) would really help me. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I had a concussion a little over 2 weeks ago, and I had the typical signs afterwards..headache, nausea, tiredness, etc. I thought I was feeling a little bit better but then it just got worse and worse. Now I can't concentrate or focus (I'm a college student and 50 minute lectures were no problem for me, but now after 10 minutes my mind is gone..and that's extremely problematic).
Avatar n tn I have had patients with this condition. However, there is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Management usually is directed at individual symptoms. This is why it is recommended that you have regular follow-ups for proper management of your symptoms. Take care and best regards.
12128836 tn?1423574148 The statement that "in emergency medicine a concussion is not very serious" is absurd and incorrect A concussion is due to a blow on the head. The brain moves and actually displaces. In all concussions there is swelling. The swelling in turn impinges on blood flow, which in turn causes necrosis (death) of brain cells. In general there is a window-of-opportunity to administer drugs to reduce the swelling. There can be damage without the presence of nausea or of unconsciousness.
Avatar f tn Hi, The symptoms that your husband describes may be those of Post Concussion Syndrome. Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc.
Avatar n tn I fell backwards 1 month ago, suffered a concussion, and have lost my sense of taste and smell. I have learned that this is caused by nerve damage. I am also lightheaded and my ears are somewhat plugged(ear pressure). I was wondering how long a nerve takes to heal itself, or does it? Is the dizziness a result of the injury or a seperate issue?
Avatar m tn This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I was injured in a rocket explosion in Baghdad 4 months ago. I was knocked out for a few seconds and suffered a head concussion. Since coming back home, I started to have migraine like headaches along with other post mTBI symptoms (dizziness, cognative problems, etc). Anyway, my neurologist is treating me currently with 25mg Nortriptyline and 25mg Topamax at night. They have helped (more so the Topamax). The first week and a half I noticed absolutely no side effects of the Topamax.
Avatar m tn I'm in highschool and during soccer i got a concussion, the doctors said my brain was fine in a cat scan but ever since I have had chronic migraines and headaches for a year now. I saw a neurologist and am on amitriptyline and zolmitriptan. It has reduced my headaches from everyday to four times a week and my migraines from twice a week to once a month. i found that also pushing myself through physical exercise helps too. I still cannot attend school though and am homeschooled as a result.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. After such head impact such kind of neurological symptoms are common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.

Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !
Avatar f tn t done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal. I didn't tell anyone at first because I was worried about my work finding out. Could this all be from the concussion?
Avatar m tn I was in a bad car accident a month ago . I had a concussion and get dizzy and headache all night long exspecially when I turn side to side. because I can"t get comfortable because I hurt my right shoulder and broke my wrist too. looking for any suggestion . Avatar f tn Over the last week I have experienced at least 3 episodes of extreme tiredness. These episodes come on suddenly and make me feel completely wipes out. All I can do is find a place to lie down, until the tiredness is not so severe. These symptoms began after going to the gym to get some exercise. Have history of thyroid cancer, hypertension, epilepsy. I take medication for all three health problems on a regular basis. Should blood work be taken, or should it be combined with other tests?
Avatar m tn Tremors and feeling faint could be symptoms of over medication, as could the tiredness. Weight gain is, typically a symptom of under medication and of course, so is tiredness. My own TSH has been very low (< 0.01) for over 6 years and I've never been over medicated. Will look forward to seeing your daughter's actual test results with reference ranges.
Avatar n tn Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, cervical collars or even surgery. Alternatively you can visit a chiropractor or a physical therapist and learn some exercises which you can do to relieve the compression. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar n tn I was hit from behind when playing ball hockey and I suffered a concussion after I went head first into the goalie. I had a cat scan done and it was normal immediately after the hit. Its been 11 months and everytime I try a light exercise for example walking around the block for about 20 minutes I get headaches. I used to swim, jog and play sports regularly and now since the accident I have gained a lot weight and don't know what to do to stay active.
Avatar f tn My friend recently got kicked in the head at a soccer game now whenever she moves her head the inside of her head hurts where she got kicked. Is this just a concussion or worse? She doesn't want to go to a doctor until after the season is over.
