Avatar f tn John's concussion occured over a year ago. Is it too late for treatment? What are the treatment options? He has also been on quite a few medications to deal with this sleep problems. Could any medications that are either used to help with sleep or used to promote day time wakefulness cause hperosmia?
Avatar m tn I'm in highschool and during soccer i got a concussion, the doctors said my brain was fine in a cat scan but ever since I have had chronic migraines and headaches for a year now. I saw a neurologist and am on amitriptyline and zolmitriptan. It has reduced my headaches from everyday to four times a week and my migraines from twice a week to once a month. i found that also pushing myself through physical exercise helps too. I still cannot attend school though and am homeschooled as a result.
Avatar n tn Please consult a neurologist. The treatment is to remove the compression. You have to discuss the best treatment option with a neurologist, which can range from medication to physiotherapy to traction, cervical collars or even surgery. Alternatively you can visit a chiropractor or a physical therapist and learn some exercises which you can do to relieve the compression. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar f tn t done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal. I didn't tell anyone at first because I was worried about my work finding out. Could this all be from the concussion?
Avatar f tn I have had PCS for four years and need new treatment ideas.
Avatar n tn Anticonvulsants, antidepressants, antipsychotics, pain medication, and medication to help with movement. So if he is having ongoing issues he needs to see a specialist, likely a neurologist. I know one person that went from almost vegetative to about 80% function, some anger and agitation when things get stressful so improvement is possible. Your BF also needs to quit doing whatever it is that is causing the multiple concussions. You only have one brain and it can only take so much abuse.
Avatar f tn Last Aug (09) I had a concussion/neck injury which left me with post concussion symptoms that subsided in Nov. The neck injury has been an ongoing problem with pain. With it has been the rocking sensation that is in sync with my heart beat. Had MRIs of head and neck (shows DDD bulging discs in neck, pinched nerve), Audiology exams (clear), Neurologist exam and Steroid Injs in neck.
Avatar f tn Amantadine has made a dramatic improvement for me for post-concussion syndrome. I am 8 months post-concussion after getting hit on the left temple by a baseball pitch. CT scan normal, no bleeding or injury. Symptoms had increased over time, but the pressure, migraines, and sensitivity to certain sounds were almost unbearable. I moved to a city with a concussion specialist and have started Amantadine for my initial treatment.
1100598 tn?1413127426 one every month or so with the aura, which was treated with Imitrex. After a concussion last summer, I started getting them almost daily, where I would get blurry vision, tremors in my hands, nausea, difficulty speaking, pain in the left temple, and falling. My doctor started me on Topamax, 100mg, which has helped with the symptoms, although I still fall occassionally. She was able to rule out epilepsy. I was wondering if anyone else has these symptoms when they have a migraine?

1983058 tn?1527442254 So he started IV fluids, sedation and pain medication, antibiotics, and steroids for the concussion. I believe he said that he did put a nasal catheter in for oxygen treatment as well. He said that his condition was guarded. I know that there is no way that anyone can give me assurance that is concrete but any would surely be wonderful. I will not hear anything until tomorrow by 10 a.m. . Does anyone have any experience in this area? Any encouragement is very much appreciated.
163305 tn?1333668571 Many doctors think the best treatment for fibromyalgia is thyroid replacement hormones, since fibromyalgia was not even a condition until the mid 1980's when it was decided that TSH would be the "gold standard" for thyroid testing and because the range was too wide, many people who had previously been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, were now left with no diagnosis...
Avatar f tn Usually, such headaches and dizziness may result due to post-concussion syndrome and may last for weeks or months after the injury that caused from the injury of a fall, vehicle accident, or sports injury. In addition, patient may experience either migraine type or tension type headache. For treatment approach, first it is essential to get (MRI) done to detect the brain abnormalities after that injury.
Avatar f tn You should be referred to a neurosurgeon at a hospital in a university setting, get a new MRI of the brain, and let him decide what happened to you, and offer treatment of some kind, to include poss surgery, physical therapy, and medication. And as with any brain injury, recovery is measured in degrees rather than cure. But I don't like the sound of you getting worse, so that's why I say see a top doc.
Avatar n tn I have had patients with this condition. However, there is no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome. Management usually is directed at individual symptoms. This is why it is recommended that you have regular follow-ups for proper management of your symptoms. Take care and best regards.

Post-concussion syndrome, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or occasionally years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. Symptoms may include headache, difficulty concentrating, irritability etc.
Avatar n tn I fell backwards 1 month ago, suffered a concussion, and have lost my sense of taste and smell. I have learned that this is caused by nerve damage. I am also lightheaded and my ears are somewhat plugged(ear pressure). I was wondering how long a nerve takes to heal itself, or does it? Is the dizziness a result of the injury or a seperate issue?
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with a mild concussion a little under a week ago. i am scheduled to have a full optometry exam (dilation of the pupils) done tomorrow. Is it ok to still have that exam done?
Avatar m tn This condition is a complex disorder in which a combination of post-concussion symptoms like headaches, tinnitus and dizziness are experienced. There are no specific treatment for post-concussion syndrome but treatment for the individual symptoms you experience is made by your doctor. Regular follow-up with your doctor is highly recommended. Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. After such head impact such kind of neurological symptoms are common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
Avatar f tn He broke his collar bone, had a concussion, an internal intestinal injury and a small pelvic fracture. Since then my son has suffered with chronic nausea, occasional dizzy spells, he is unable to eat consistently and lost weight (going from 159 lbs in October to 138 lbs in March). In addition to the physical issues ....he now suffers with angry outbursts, unable to go to school during those times when he feels most sick although he generally feels sick every day.
Avatar m tn tests can be done to ensure that the nerve at the base of the skull goes to the ear is not dysfunctional, as this can lead to vertigo (room-spinning). For post-concussion fatigue, there are a few treatment options including stimulants, antidepressants, anxiolytics, and others depending on the associated symptoms.

Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !

Avatar f tn I have struggled with anxiety for awhile with no medication, and right now I have had post-concussion symptoms for 2 weeks. Something has happened that triggered my anxiety tonight and I haven't been able to sleep, I have a numb sensation through my body, I'm lightheaded, I'm shaking/trembling badly, and I'm sick to my stomach. Is this an anxiety attack or should I see a doctor to check on my post-concussion syndrome? HELP!
