concussion

1602878 tn?1304336016 Have had eight surgeries on the mid to low back two inside the spinal cord - was born with a tethered cord. I am also implanted with a spinal cord stimulator . Now the Doctor says I have a concussion . My neurological symptoms are getting much worse. Ringing ears, sensitive to light, nauseous , thinking causes worse headaches, hot and cold sweats, fingers go numb. My question is how long will I need to stay down and quiet? They say to have total rest both mentally and physically.
1602878 tn?1304336016 Have had about eight surgeries some inside the cord to untether it and to remove a tumor. I am implanted with a spinal cord stimulator. I was born with a tethered cord. Lots of scar tissue and tissue doesn't heal well when a needle is put in for a myelogram. Could the fractured rib poke and cause a leak? Or possibly the fall pulled at the scar tissue created the leak. Any ideas out there?
Avatar m tn That was followed by having a titanium for inserted in my shattered right femur. The next day I had rode and nuts and bolts out in my back along my spinal cord which was broken in 5places. My neck was broken in 3places and I had 5broken ribs a punctured lung and a severe concussion. I'm back to walking with a limp and need a cane for support when walking but recently havens having a balance problem and even talking down alot. Light headaches.
Avatar f tn Otherwise, surgery is your other option at this time, and as per my researches...a lot of people complain of pain even after the surgery was performed to widen their spinal cord canal.
Avatar f tn the reason is, chiari is the malformation of the skull leaving it too small to contain the cerebellum part of the brain and it is forced down on the the spinal cord and brain stem. With an acquired chiari with herniated tonsils the skull does have the space and many times the tonsil do contract back into place..... BUT- some r congenital chiari being triggered by the injury....so be sure to check if the skull is malformed and has the room to see if it is a true chiari....
Avatar n tn However, I do recommend you see your neurologist at the next available appointment to discuss your symptoms further, after he/she examines you he can determine if the problem is coming from the brain (such as seizures) or your nerves as they exit the spinal cord, or the nerves in the arm, and can go from there in terms of what tests are necessary and what treatment is an option.
Avatar f tn I think you should go back to the doctors nad mak them repeat an MRI and check your spinal cord as soon as possible. You should not look upthe website. Neck pain could mean a bad posture but you need the doctors to assess this.
Avatar f tn These being the numbness and tingling in the left arm and hand which is now in both arms. I have recovered from the concussion symptoms of slurred and backwards speech and the migraine headaches but these nerve damage symptoms are ongoing and seem to get worse with time and activity. I am most concerned since they will not do surgery and therefore am coping to the best of my ability!
Avatar f tn Ligamantum flavin hypertrophy and discogenic disease at c6-7 with effacement at the right anterior aspect of the cord and residual AP diameter of the central spinal canal of 6 mm. What does this mean? Help anyone?
Avatar f tn How much can a spinal cord take? I am 43 years old, I have Chiari Malformation, Klippel Feil Syndrome, Spinal Bifida Oculta, Spinal stenosis in cervical and lumbar region, degenerative disk disease, several bulging disks and cervical vertebras 2,3,4,and 5 fused together. I am in pain all the time but have yet to have a doctor help my situation. What can be done to help me? This is just the spine. I also have several other medical problems.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know of a website that shows what lesions on the spinal cord look like on an mri? How easy is it to identify spinal cord lesions on an mri?
1860106 tn?1319877529 Hi BT -Welcome to our little MS encrusted world :-) This thread is rather old, so you may want to post a new question, or just introduce yourself. Kyle L'Hermitte's Sign can point to a lot of things, MS being one. This is from Dr. Google at medicine.net.
Avatar m tn I have complained about it ever since it began, intermittently, 25 years ago after a concussion. A whole series of neurologists just looked at me like I had two heads and then patted me on both of them. My current neuro says he has seen it after head injuries. I always thought it was part of the vertigo that I had beginning with that concussion. What a relief to hear someone speaking of my biggest demon. Sorry to digress. I was beginning to think I was really nutty about this symptom.
865683 tn?1240947458 i have been put on surcs tablets due to my dizzyness and he has done a mri of my whole spinal cord, results show that i have a small syrinx at the c6 c7 levels of my cervical spine, lumber and thoracic spine was clear, the hospital have sent me a appointment to go to see the neuro dr in 4 weeks regards the results, can anyone explain this syrinx in more detail.
1427258 tn?1282925864 I have a disc pressing into my spinal cord in c5-6. I have swelling in the cranial-cervical junction. I have also had 3 seizures. I have been to the ER, had many MRI's ordered that showed these things but I don't have a family doctor to follow up on them. I don't know how to find good doctor here. I NEED care but can't get it. I have PIP car insurance and my own medical insurance so that isn't the problem. Please someone, give me some direction.
Avatar n tn There is a huge difference between the spinal canal and the spinal cord. If a disk is herniated into the canal, it is a danger, and generally conservative treatment is monitored more closely. (many herniation's are towards your throat, not the spinal canal) However, you mentioned damage to the spinal cord. This is a very bad thing, and conservative treatment is almost never considered. This is a "get it fixed now," thing. Most damage to the cord does not heal.
Avatar n tn This is below where the spinal cord ends, so there is no possibility of touching the cord. Any MS spinal lesions would be on the cord itself, at the cervical or thoracic level, not near where the needle is inserted. It's always a good idea to ask that the procedure be done using flouroscopy, so that the doctor can see exactly what he's doing. If I were you I'd find out this in advance, and wouldn't have one done unless flouroscopy is used.
Avatar n tn what is mild focal expansion of the cord with increased signal within the cord seen on t2
Avatar m tn Ventral cord is contacted and minimally flattened. No abnormal cord signal is seen. Mild central stenosis is present with estimated AP diameter of the thecal sac measuring 9 mm. Mild/moderate bilateral foraminal stenosis is present. No definite nerve root impingement is seen.
Avatar m tn The spinal cord ends at T12, just before the lumbar spine, so there are no lesions below the thoracic level. Sometimes a lesion will be seen at the very bottom of the spinal cord in the images taken of the lumbar spine, but it's just because the tech's caught the very bottom of the T-spine to be complete. That's usually where the misconception comes in.
Avatar n tn AT THIS LEVEL THERE IS WELL MARKED POSTERIOR OSTEOPHYTE FORMATION ON THE RIGHT AND A SMALL CENTRAL DISK PROTRUSION WHICH INDENTS THE ANTERIOR ASPECT OF THE SPINAL CORD AT THIS LEVEL. AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE RIGHT SIDED ABNORMALITY, THERE IS SIGNIFICANT NARROWING OF THE RIGHT SIDED EXIT FORAMEN AT THIS LEVE. LESSER DEGENERATIVE CHANGE IS SEEN AT C6-7 WHERE THERE IS AGAIN MARKED GENERALISED ANNULAR BULGING BUT THE LATERAL RECESSES ARE ADEQUATE AT THIS LEVEL.
