Common Questions and Answers about Concussion and working out

concussion

Avatar m tn Have you had a diagnosis or been able to figure out how and make this stop? Very painful and I can not even workout anymore.
12128836 tn?1423574148 But a hard hit to the head can also cause a bleeding in the brain which is extremely dangerous and often fatal. Most times you just get a concussion and no brain bleeding. An extreme hit like from a car crash can cause the brain to swell and the pressure in the skull to increase which will lead to brain damage, maybe coma and possibly death. This is also unlikely. Let us return to the concussions which is the most probable outcome of a hard hit to the head.
Avatar f tn At times a subdural hematoma develops slowly and may be missed on the first MRI. Also concussion can cause persisting headaches and should be allowed to slowly subside before active sports are considered. Injury to neck, to jaw bone, and even eyes should be considered. Get his eye sight also checked. May be the headaches are because he needs spectacles. -Take care!

There's a little boy who was injured in Hurricane Sandy in 2012, when a tree fell through the roof of their home, onto his head.
Avatar f tn I personally feel my mental capacity and working memory in terms of active problem solving and such degrade to a point of needing to change and drop out of classes I could once handle. All of those symptoms have carried on with what seemed to be normal and clean MRI and Cat scan imaging. The only problems diagnosed from those scans where said to be prenatal.
Avatar m tn I am in the ARMY and in mid February I passed out while doing PT. Everyone who saw it said my legs didn't cave they locked and I ended up falling straight backwards. I hit my head and ended up with a skull fracture, and bruising and bleeding on the brain. Before I passed out my chest felt like it was on fire and then I got light headed and the next thing I knew I was sitting up from the floor. Now everytime I get worked up I feel like I am going to pass out.
Avatar m tn The front right side of my head/face took most of the force into the side of the van. I was knocked out briefly and taken to the hospital. Brain/face CT came back clear. Have been diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome. Am still dealing with executive function problems with specific issues with visual scanning. Since my accident, I've been experiencing narrowed focus for both near and far objects. My peripheral vision seems fine, but have to make an effort to focus on objects.
471949 tn?1236904026 I was in a car accident 15 years ago, walked around w/pain and got therapy, etc... and finally found out that I had a broken neck! I got a fusion from C2-C6. It is important to look further if you are still having pain, because it can mean the difference between a good result and not. Keep me posted.
Avatar f tn I know the symptoms I have are a part of the concussion but they are bad (bec I already have the chiari symptoms) and it has been since Friday and I still feel HORRIBLE! I see a chiari specialist at the end of the month but in the mean time could this hitting my head on the wall possibly made things worse? (I did not have a ct for the concussion, the dr. just diagnosed me by my symptoms and what happened).
Avatar m tn My concussion occurred 37 days ago when I slipped and fell backwards hitting the back of my head on a turf surface. In terms of the concussion recovery, I've been working with a concussion therapist to employ the practices of slowly getting back into activities without provoking symptoms. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much progress and may even have my symptoms come on earlier. I believe that this is related to sleep and neck issues that began about 18-20 days into the recovery.
Avatar f tn I have been sitting and talking with him when it seems as though severe fatigue washes over him, and immediately the headaches begin. He will be down and out for about three days when they hit him. He has already missed 16 days of school this year due to the headaches. He had a CAT Scan and MRI which all seem normal. The pediatric neurologist gave him Amitriptoline, which makes his headaches worse. The Neurologist does not believe this.
Avatar f tn I have been medicated for a long time (was on Ritalin for a very long time but had to switch medications within the past few years because Ritalin stopped working for me). I have been on vyvance for a while now and it was doing fine for me. I am in college now, and last semester (spring 2014 semester) I got a concussion. I did not seem to be having too many problems over the summer break, but now that I am back in school, I have completely changed.
Avatar f tn i need help trying to figure out why this is going on in my brain and what i can do to help this problem. should i stop working out or keep doing what I'm doing?
Avatar f tn the fatigue, nausea, migraines, difficulty multitasking, concentrating and remembering, but most debilitating is losing blocks of time everyday, I pass out, fall asleep if I sit down and experience stiffness, pressure and pain throughout my body. After experiencing unrelenting fatigue with soft tissue damage from a back and neck injury in Israel in June 2008, I was almost recovered when I suffered a concussion and whiplash as a passenger in an auto accident in March, 2009.
Avatar n tn I was recently working out, and as soon as I started to lift, my very first set, i got a massive headache and could not do anything else. It happened to me once before, but it was a different type of headache it was in the back of my head and my neck so i didn't work out for a week or two and i was fine. Since then i have been going to the gym for about two months and it hasn't happened. Like i said, this is a different headache. I just started taking creatine if that means anything?
Avatar n tn I am in my 3 trimester now and I still work out and run. I did a marathon 3 months ago and just yesterday I did a 2 hour cycle class for the new year and my normal weights. Just listen to your body.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 weeks and have been working out everyday. Just don't over do it and don't lift anything really heavy. I use 8 or 5 pound weights on my arms. But if you are unsure just check with your doctor.
Avatar f tn m a body builder and very very active with lifting heavy. Yesterday was the first time back in the gym in about two weeks (moved out of state) and well I forgot about the 25lb rule. BUT I still lifted extremely light. 85lb free weight barbell squats, with 35lb dummbbell shrugs and 25lb tricep overhead extensions, and 45lb plate to chin shrugs... I am 9 weeks and 2 days pregnant.. should I just stick to cardio and every single thing I go to lift stay at 25lbs ??
559862 tn?1311516637 Were any of you ladies working out rigorously prior to becoming pregnant and how long did you continue working out??? I also lift weights about once a week and wondered if anyone on here has had experience with lifting while pregnant. From what I've found (of course always ask your doc) that you can continue lifting just not your max and as you get farther in your pregnancy cut the weight in half?!?! Thanks in advance for any replies! p.s.

Avatar f tn I am pregnant with a my second baby and I am not backing down on working out. With my last pregnancy, I worked out 5-6 times a week for 40 to 60 minutes. I had a very healthy pregnancy and baby! The best part was I was able to bounce back very quickly post baby. My current schedule consists of spin class twice a week, elliptical, running (just slowed down a bit),stairstepper, and a cardio mix up class. I am just more careful and I don't push myself as hard.
Avatar n tn I am one of the lucky ones you so far (shot 12 tonight) that has not suffered with sx but I do feel so wiped out in the afternoons and by the time I get off work and get home I do not feel like doing anything. I had hoped (know that sounds sick) that I would lose weight on tx but Oh no not me, not so lucky... if anything have gained. *****.... I am not sure what to do but to look toward Dec. when I will be finished with tx and have energy.. I agree with the goal sitting...
Avatar n tn Working out is fine!! Unless your doc says other wise. I worked out very hard before this pregnancy! However I have had to tone it down a little. I still lift light weights and have had to reach out and try some new things because I was finding the old exercises hard to do. I joined Pilates, because I clearly couldn't spend so much time on my abdominals! And I found it helped a lot for back aches and si pain. Cardio is a lot harder to do pregnant!
Avatar f tn I'm 31 weeks and just started working out again since I first found out I was pregnant. I have an athletic build and am in pretty good shape. I keep my jogging at a minimum speed and under a mile a day and lift very light weights not to overdo it. Doctor says its fine but everyone tells me I shouldn't run. Anybody else in the same boat and if so up until what week in your pregnancy did you stay active?
Avatar f tn How long after you have your baby can you start working out?? Like sit ups and stuff in the abdominal area??
