Avatar n tn A clot lodging in the heart ends up as a heart attack; in the brain it is a stroke. I hope he is getting hospital care right now.
Avatar m tn Which is better anticoagulnt from rivaroxaban and clopidogrel for stroke prevention. My grandmother had stroke 6 years ago and she has atrial fibrilation. So far she used clopidogrel as treatment but her new doctor perscribed medication with rivaroxaban (but it is far more expensive) ?
Avatar f tn No stomach issues anymore. Clopidogrel has quite a short half life, so it will soon reduce back down in your body. I believe the half life is around 8 hours. So after 24 hours you will basically be back down to your usual level of 75mg.
Avatar m tn I am currently taking plavix, 81mg aspirin AND coumadin on a daily basis. I had a stent put in in July 2008 and triple by pass in 2006. I'm 64 and had my first MI at 33. My father died of an MI at 46, my EF is under 30%. My EP (at one hospital) just suggested I eliminate the plavix while my CHF specialist (at a nearby major research university) said I would be on plavix for a "long time" (forever?).
Avatar m tn Personally, I would not take Plavix for the long term as the risk in my view excessive internal bleeding from a stroke and/or the digestive system. For me, aspirin for the long term is sufficient although Plavix has a different mechanism to prevent clots. However, some in the medical community may be relying on CPARIE trial!!.
Avatar m tn I am 78 and had a mini stroke 11 Jun 2014. I was placed in the hospital for overnight observation and was released the following day to my family doctor. I have high blood pressure so he placed me on Exforge 10-325-25mg HCT and also Clopidogrel 75mg In the hospital I had a MRA, MRI, CATSCAN, Chest Xray and several blood tests. I lost peripheral vision in the left eye. When I left the hospital I had this slight lump across from my left ear about 1 inch long pointing to the top of my head.
Avatar f tn He has been taking a med with clopidogrel and aspirin since then. He has had multiple mild strokes. The doctor has warned that another stroke will be very dangerous. Recently he has had multiple tooth decay. A dental procedure to take them off needs to be done. He is on painkillers now which is okay to manage the pain for the time being but the procedure needs to be done. The doctors are asking him to stop the bloodthinners for at least a week three days pre op and four days post op.
1618533 tn?1299870566 I am new to this site, having been a member of another Stroke forum for the last 3 years or so. When I started there, I was re-learning how to think and type, which was a huge challenge. I found the forum to be a great place for me, and wanted to come over here to meet up with some more stroke survivors. I had 4 strokes at the age of 43, which left me with end stage renal failure, and quite a few deficits.
Avatar f tn If you’ve already had a heart attack or stroke or are resistant to the beneficial effects of aspirin, your doctor may suggest supplementary aspirin therapy with another clot-preventing drug, such as clopidogrel (Plavix). Clopidogrel may even be suggested as an alternative drug therapy, particularly if you’re allergic to aspirin or can’t tolerate its side effects." Maybe someone will be able to add a thought or 2. Take care and keep us posted.
575214 tn?1218040360 Aspirin, taken daily in low-to-medium doses (50-325 mg), is an effective and inexpensive first-choice agent for reducing recurrent stroke risk.Similarly, clopidogrel(plavix)is taken to decrease the chance of stroke recurrence. To decrease the thrombus or emboli, fibrinolytic drugs are to be taken. Tissue plasminogen activator is a fibrinolytic protein and it will reduce the size of thrombus or the blockage.
Avatar f tn I suffered a mild stroke (blood clot) Consultant prescribed Clopidogrel but cannot tolerate side effects. Then consultant prescribed Dipyridamole. I cannot tolerate this either. Severe headache, vomiting and diarrhoea. Has anybody got a different medication they are on?
1346447 tn?1327862572 after about 20 days she went in to coma and within two days she expired due to extensive bleeding in the brain. There were no signs of internal bleeding except she gradually stopped eating her food. For want of signs of brain bleed there was neglect on our part. As a lesson I have changed my drug from clopivasAP150 to ecosprin 150.
Avatar n tn Since treatment of clots is very restrictive in her case, maybe aspirin can be tried. In patients on hemodialysis aspirin is known to decrease the chances of stroke, without increasing the chances of bleeding. However, the dose needs to be adjusted well. Also aspirin can be combined with Coumadin. Aspirin can be combined with clopidogrel also and reduces the risk of stroke. Please discuss these options with her treating doctor.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm writing on behalf of my sister, who has been experiencing a series of puzzling health problems following a recent brain stroke. Despite multiple visits to doctors, we haven't been able to pinpoint the cause or find effective treatments. I'm hoping to gather insights or suggestions from this community. Here are some key details about her situation: - Low ferritin levels (3.5 ng/ml) - Low transferrin saturation (4.4%) - Low iron (18.
Avatar n tn Plavix is used to reduce the risk of heart attacks and strokes, particularly in people with a recent history of stroke or heart attack, and those with peripheral vascular disease (peripheral artery disease, PAD).
Avatar f tn my fiancee has had 3 stents put in and 1 collapsed after a heated argument between us. this was 8 months ago. recently we had another argument cause by pressure to relocated to another country. can his st. waves, lots of pvc's and high blood pressure (205/125) be caused by this? recently he also had 3 teeth removed and is taking antibiotics for this. he had complication on one and they had to stitch his gums.
Avatar f tn I am 32 and have paraxosymal afib. Last week I was in the hospital for three days to begin Sotalol. I am taking 80mg BID and Plavix. I have two questions. How low of a heart rate is too low on Sotalol? I am currently in the lows 50's with many drops of heart rate into the upper/mid 40's while awake. I have been feeling very tired, dizzy and just unwell. So I am wondering how low of a heartrate is too low even if I wasn't symptomatic.
1723161 tn?1309771519 Afib is a leading cause of stroke for sure, because blood can pool in the atria when this is happening and spawn clots, but if it just started how could it be a cause before the afib started? Maybe she was having episodes of afib and it was just finally caught? that's a possibility. Now that she's being treated with the blood thinner (pradaxia) hopefully the TIAs stop. SOmetimes severe valve regurgitation can cause afib.
Avatar f tn #3 – Plavix® (clopidogrel) In third place is Plavix, which is a drug that affects platelets in humans, inhibiting clot formation and reducing the risk of stroke. Rarely used in veterinary medicine, $6.1 billion was spent on this drug for humans last year. When pets get into Plavix, it has a wide margin of safety and generally is not considered to be acutely toxic. Only mild vomiting or diarrhea may be seen. I hope you find this information helpful.

Avatar n tn That’s because the studies show that aspirin doesn’t reduce the risk of dying from a heart attack or stroke in healthy people. Furthermore, the potential risk of a cerebral hemorrhage, gastrointestinal bleeding, and ulcers outweighs any heart benefits the aspirin might provide. However, if you've already had a heart attack or stroke, or if you have been found by your doctor to be at high or moderate risk for heart attack or stroke, the benefits of taking aspirin can trump the risks.
Avatar n tn after a stent inplant how long must clopidogrel-winthrop be taken my heart attack was caused by cholestral which now a 3
690060 tn?1247841741 Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has new data showing that omeprazole (Prilosec/Prilosec OTC)—a medicine used to reduce stomach acid—reduces the anti-blood clotting effect of clopidogrel (Plavix) by almost half when these two medicines are taken by the same patient." "...Patients using clopidogrel should consult with their healthcare provider if they are currently taking or considering taking omeprazole, including Prilosec OTC" but then, there's also this: http://www.
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
