Subutex is given during the first few days of treatment, while Suboxone is used during the maintenance phase of treatment. Like methadone, Suboxone can then be gradually weaned and stopped, eliminating physical dependence on opioids. Clonidine is a blood pressure medicine that acts on the brain.

Avatar f tn hi.....i have never used clonidine but it's suppose to be for high BP and also can be used for anxiety from what i've read. I am on a diff med for high BP. Good luck and hope it works for you! i've read that it helps alot of people calm down thru WDs.
Avatar f tn Clonidine is a medication that is generally used to ease the symptoms of opioid withdrawal. To be honest, though, clonidine is only slightly helpful, and comes with its own side effects like sedation, dry mouth, fatigue, and dizziness. Opioid withdrawal can be very severe in people taking high-potency opioids like heroin, fentanyl, or oxycodone-- so severe that people generally cannot even walk during the first week, and the legs are kicking uncontrollably.
10047460 tn?1407438406 Wow Jeni I'm not sure. The only time I took Clonidine was for my high blood pressure. I've heard that Clonidine helps with a lot of symptoms of withdrawal including cravings. My doctor gave me Zofran 8 mg for nausea. It worked really well. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hang on for a while.
Avatar f tn Tues will take lase clonidine pill then that eve switch to clonidine patch. Next day stop all methadone. Dr said she will call me everyday will increase clonidine patch continue to use Valium for anxiety and tramadol if needed. I am pretty nervous cause I am doing this alone at home what do you think?
Avatar f tn I find that a whole pill will knock me on my ars. Sometimes a tiny little piece will be enough to help with withdrawal symptoms. Keep up the good work.

Avatar n tn does clonidine in combination with ultram, help the severe withdrawal from opana?
Avatar f tn clonidine is originally for high blood pressure, and since the high bp causes a lot of the withdrawal symptoms (racing heart, sweats, etc) the Clonidine is suppose to lower your bp and help with these symptoms. It is possible your bp is dropping too low. Do you have a blood pressure cuff and have you talked to your doctor? You can go to a walgreens/walmart and have blood pressure taken as well.
Avatar f tn I doubt at that low dose you will have much withdrawal, especially with the clonidine you have.If you get depressed just come on here and post.Alot of people are always here to help you out and talk to you.Good luck.
526311 tn?1229286330 The librium and clonidine are to help you not feel the symptoms (or feel less of them) of w/d. They don't delay w/d if that's what you are asking. The diarrhea is a sign that your body is experiencing w/d. Be thankful the librium and clonidine are working so well. You can take immodium for the runs on top of the other two meds.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am tapering down from methadone, was at 130mgs two years ago, and am currently at 41mgs, now tapering 2mg /week. I am already starting to get withdrawal symptoms which surprises me as this is not really a small dose. I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. I was wondering if I should start taking it, I am so uncomfortable.
Avatar f tn I suffered a bad bone injury about a year ago. I was getting treatment without vicodin then lost my health insurance. My sister was getting vicodin and starting letting me have them for my ongoing pain. I've been taking Hydrocodone 7.5 about 6 times a day for almost 2 months. I was afraid I was getting addicted so I've only taken 1 a day for 3 days. My body hurts pretty bad, I'm going to the bathroom a lot and today I lost total interest in everything.
Avatar f tn Today, I was curious about how long does it take to detox and didnt see any comments about Clonidine. If anyone can get your hands on it, it is a life-saver during the withdrawal period. Last time I only took it a few days. a week tops. I would pop one every now and then if I felt jittery. It is not a controlled substance and there is NO risk for addicton to this medication (Clonidine). I am suprised it is not more widely discussed or known about.

Avatar n tn Just discovered my daughter is additcted to hydrocodone , take 6 daily as an average 10 mg. along with Bontril,Ambien, And zanaz. She is 27, not in good health with juvinile diabetes since her teen years. What are the dangers she facing if she decides to go "cold turkey" with this withdrawal. Thank You s much in advance for any info I may recieve.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, because these meds don't cause seizures, etc, the Dr can abruptly stop them for any reason. Since he did, I would call the Dr and ask for Clonidine. It's a BP med that really helps acute withdrawl symptoms. How long has your son been without meds? The acute symptoms, muscle ache, stomach issues, cold/hot spells, sweating, usually last 4-5 days. Hydration is a must. Look below for The Thomas recipie. These things can help his symptoms a lot. Tell us more..
Avatar m tn Go lower if possible with your methadone before stopping. People say the lower the less withdrawal. The doc will give you clonidine and valium no problem, if you tell him what it's for, but I would only take 2.5mg valium with 50mg clonidine, I took them every 4 hours for 3 days, then once a night, I only needed the meds for 8 days. Double check with your doc this will work for you. He may want you to do something different. Best of luck to you.
6815927 tn?1395511425 The initial fentanyl reduction was from 200 ug to 175, however, I am very sensitive to any reduction. (I tried going from 200 to 150 and was in severe withdrawal.) . I have heard many benefis of clonidine and asked for a prescription of .1 mg BID. I also asked for an rx for gabepentin, i know this is for nerve pain but I have heard it used off lable for arthritis. I have also heard it is excellent for treating withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar n tn I have tapered down to 10 mgs of hydro from 120 mg a day. I was on it for about 2 years every day. Can i take both valium and clonidine at the same time to help with my withdrawal symptoms. The last time I went through this my body was so extremely uncomfortable. I had to keep clinching my muscles every time i started to relax and didnt sleep for 4 days. It ultimately let to a failed clod turkey attempt. Thanks so much everybody and i really hope i can get through it this time......
Avatar f tn I am going to switch to methadone for as short as possible time ánd the plan is to use clonidine when I stop taking methadone. Can I use this in combimation with seroquel? Also, do you have a suggestion how much clonidinebI should take and for how long? As far as I know, I should take it for a week with a man of 1,3 per day and after a week build it off in 3 days. I am using half a gram per day. How much methadone should I take. The plan is to lowwer the dosis with 5 mg. Per day.
349859 tn?1257790973 Does clonidine really help with easing some of the yucky wd feelings??
Avatar f tn i really have only heard of this with people who take methadone because methadone has such a long and strong half life - meaning it attatches to your pain receptors in your brain like super glue, but mine was short lived and i swear it was because of the clonidine helping the withdrawal symptoms, it was severe and intense for about 5-6 hours, by that time i had already taken my full 32 mgs of suboxone and she called in a prescription for the clonidine that i took 3 times a day.
