Clonidine onset of action

Common Questions and Answers about Clonidine onset of action

catapres

Avatar f tn from water pills that relax your veins, to Beta Blockers that do the same in a different way. Clonidine just has a unique method of action that works to help withdrawal symptoms...no other BP med does this. So, that being said...I want to point out that using another person's meds is classic addictive behavior and must be avoided. It's extremely dangerous with any med..especially BP meds. You do not want to monkey around with your blood pressure.
Avatar f tn The vomiting may or may not be related to the Clonidine as well. Typical average dose of Clonidine is 0.1-0.2 mg. Sounds like you may have been on a significantly higher dose. What was the Clonidine Rx'd for?
656243 tn?1231288052 But the Clonidine brought me into an agitated mixed state and the Tizanidine caused suicidal ideations. Depression is a common side effect of Clonidine and unlike naturally occuring depression medication enduced depression is hard to watch out for because it creeps up on you. But some people I know did well on Clonidine but its often not well tolerated. It really all depends.
Avatar m tn m interested in hearing from anybody who has had similar symptoms, or a similar course of action before getting a diagnosis. I have never really heard of tinnitis or vertigo being symptoms of MS, and those are the main reasons I even started pursuing medical help to begin with. The doctors have ruled out some explanations (like the acoustic neuroma), but there are still other possibilities on the table (Meniere's disease, or even high blood pressure for example).
Avatar n tn It kind of sounds like a form of Action tremors, but I have to agree with mkh9.
585414 tn?1288941302 Right now I am changing from Tenex back to Clonidine because the Tenex wasn't helpful. However, because they are both blood pressure medications (the Catapres application should be familiar to some people) they can't be taken at the same time. Additionally it has to be raised slowly because the Zofran lowers blood pressure as well.
Avatar f tn Clonidine is a medication that is generally used to ease the symptoms of opioid withdrawal. To be honest, though, clonidine is only slightly helpful, and comes with its own side effects like sedation, dry mouth, fatigue, and dizziness. Opioid withdrawal can be very severe in people taking high-potency opioids like heroin, fentanyl, or oxycodone-- so severe that people generally cannot even walk during the first week, and the legs are kicking uncontrollably.
Avatar m tn The onset of action ranges from 45 minutes - 1 ½ hours, and the duration of action is six hours. Diazepam carries a bi-phasic half-life of 20-50 hours (for Diazepam), and 30-200 hours (for Desmethyldiazepam). Valium is indicated for the long-term management of generalized anxiety and tension-anxiety. Tolerance will not develop to the anxiolytic property of Diazepam, although tolerance will develop to the sedative/hypnotic property.
Avatar m tn I am okay for about 2 or 3 days and then the withdrawal symptoms get really bad (and I take another 100 mg capsule--I saved about 10 of them)...I am cold(freezing) all the time, terrible bouts of depression, and then I get gross body movements happening..like I can't stay still..and my arms and legs start to move almost violently on their own.In the last 4 nights I have only slept one of them...I could not sleep all last night...
Avatar m tn A partial µ-opioid receptor agonist, its mixed agonist/antagonist activity affords it a lower risk of dependence and abuse than full µ agonists like morphine. Meptazinol exhibits not only a short onset of action, but also a shorter duration of action relative to other opioids such as morphine, pentazocine, or buprenorphine.
Avatar f tn What is the onset of action after taking a dose of the immunoglobulin.
Avatar n tn I am 6'1", 195 lb, 35 yrs. I take clonidine and lisinopril for high blood pressure. I take no other medications. I do not use drugs. I do not smoke. I do drink but not very much. I have taken up aerobic exercise, but I have had to discontinue it. Just a brisk walk for half an hour and my diastolic bp goes from 80 to 115. I get headaces. My eyes hurt. The level it reaches during exercise I don't want to think about.
Avatar n tn Hi...not sure if there is more to the report then what u have mentioned, but it could be a few things, I know of a boy that could not sleep if u google that u will find the story, he has chiari malformation....we also have a link posted in the chiari forum here on MedHelp-http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Chiari-Malformation/show/257?

Avatar f tn After he/she takes the x-ray, they will go over them to determine what plan of action to take. After a few treatments, you should start to feel better.
Avatar f tn I am fearful of the clonidine, but that is not my call and needs to be addressed by your doctor. Some others here might have had the same experience.
Avatar f tn I'm on 8 ml of methadone and want to stop taking it all together. How much clonidine do I need to take a day to get over this bs?
5204799 tn?1365456784 Half life of Klonopin is also MUCH longer, 9-20 hrs for Xanax, versus 10-60 hrs for the Klonopin. The onset of action (the amount of time it takes for a person to feel the effects of the medication) is considerably quicker among the short acting benzos as well. Klonopin is slower in that regard, which is why the shorter-acting benzos are best used as rescue meds ("as needed") in the event of acute anxiety or a panic attack when treating anxiety disorders.
Avatar f tn but cos of body adjustment a person with a low BP during wd should beware of clonidine...most of the time wd/severe from strong narcotics or high doses///the bp goes up due to the stress of wd...a 60 mg hydro user would possibly see a big drop in bp due to clonidine which can cause emergency situations....a 200-300 mg oxy user who goes ct would possibly benefit from clonidine use to curb wd..it is better than methadone or sub...as it is non-narcotic...
198154 tn?1337787265 s but only a caring doctor will give it, most would rather see you suffer....i took .1 mg of clonidine 3 times daily...worked tremendously well...if taking clonidine will help get you off your d.o.c.,...take it as your doctor has prescribed it...regardless of what you think MIGHT happen...it does help more than i can describe, i think it is a miracle drug for wd's. i took it for 10 days, then tapered for 3, it is not addictive, but you have to taper to avoid rebound high BP...
Avatar m tn It really works. It will not make you 100% the same as if you were taking the percs but it helps with anxiety, sleeplessness and overall feeling like crap. My doctor gave me 1.0 milligrams with a refill. She is awesome. Yesterday was my full day 2 from all addictive substances (day 9 from Vicodin) and I had some anxiety late afternoon and evening. Took a pill each time and I was fine. Slept a full 8 hours.
349859 tn?1257790973 Does clonidine really help with easing some of the yucky wd feelings??
880900 tn?1467270141 I’m pretty sure clondine is a high blood pressure medication to reduce hypertension. It sounds like some side effects of taking clonidine may be helpful with w/d's. I haven’t tried it for that, yet, however, I took it once to reduce my BP and I accidentally took too much and I was literally walking sideways, my BP got dangerously low....(if that happens, drink lots of H2o), so, IMO, I would be very careful with it and take a very low dose. It’s nothing to mess around with….
Avatar f tn s blood pressure..The implication of taking more than prescribed could be the possibilty of setting yourself up for a stroke due to blood pressure getting too low..So I too am confused as to your dosing as you are being instructed to take the equivelent of me taking my maximum allowed dosing at bedtime,, except your getting it twice a day. I never took more than one in the evening when I was going thru wd's though.Whether it eases wd's or not I can't really say.
