Avatar f tn I too would recommend trying the Clonidine. As others have said, it is an anti-hypertensive medication that does help to relieve w/d symptoms quite successfully. It will not take them away completely, but it will minimize some of the symptoms, by reducing the sympathetic nervous system response, such as tachycardia and high BP. It's not a habit-forming drug, and really, the biggest consideration is some hypotension (low BP).
Avatar f tn m smoking like 5 to 7 per day or less I really try to save them for morning before bed and the after meals, instead of just smoking for the heck of it... I totaly understand u and I feel the same way too, I'm even embarrassed to be seen doing it and I'm not even showing a baby belly yet.... So don't be so hard on ur self, and just try to really cut down.
467579 tn?1289402969 In the meantime, you and other smokers should take advantage of currently available medicines and state-sponsored, smoking cessation programs. The great majority of us attribute smoking to nicotine addiction, not to a “mental defect.” Do consult with your doctor regarding medicine and call your local smoking cessation program. Good luck.
Avatar f tn This is just a partial list of the benefits that will accrue to you with smoking cessation and the reason why your deciding to do so is such a good decision. Or, as stated by the American Lung Association, “Commit a death defying act. Stop smoking!” For many smokers, if not for most of those who smoke, it can be very difficult to quit smoking on your own.

I got awful hot flashes when I quit smoking and this med worked/works wonders and will also help you sleep if that's an issue when you quit. It's just a blood pressure med used off label for opiate w/d, smoking cessation and menopausal hot flashes. I'm still taking it do deal with menopause. See you in a few weeks or so!

He can also go cold turkey but if he does make sure he is doing some active and be there for him because having a good friend around to make sure you don't slide back and light up is really helpful.

1262435 tn?1270311859 This diminution in risk occurs relatively soon after cessation of smoking, and increasing intervals since the last cigarette smoked are associated with progressively lower mortality rates from CHD. Similar rapid decreases in risk with smoking cessation are also seen for ischemic stroke. Benefits from quitting are seen in former smokers even after many years of heavy smoking.
Avatar f tn The risk diminishes over time, following smoking cessation, but will always remain higher than the risk of someone who has never smoked. There are a number of genes that can occur in a variety of forms. Some forms are associated with an increased risk of lung cancer, one example of which is called tumor suppressor gene TP53. When present, this gene variant increases the risk of lung cancer, especially the risk for small cell lung cancer.
Avatar f tn I know Zyban is another smoking cessation aide but that is another name for the anti-depressent Wellbutrin and an anti-depressent alone in bipolar can often worsen mania. Those are the two that are clinically approved and in standard use. Others are in experimental use.
Avatar f tn s not, ask them to recommend how to cut back and quit, or ask them to recommend a smoking cessation method to help you (the patch, the gum, etc)...and see if there are any smoking cessation programs in your state that you can call for information as well.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Wellbutrin (buproprion) for smoking cessation and have been on it for roughly 3 weeks. It is the SR, 150mg in the AM and 150mg in the PM. I have also been on methadone for roughly five years and have been at the same dosage of 25mgs for over a year. Once starting buproprion (i got the generic), the side affects were pretty bad. I felt like I was on amphetamines.
Avatar m tn Don’t be alarmed if you should cough more and raise sputum following smoking cessation but, should that occur, you and your doctor would want to arrange for what is called sputum cytology; i.e., an exam that looks for cells, in any stage of malignant change, in your sputum. The odds will be increasingly in your favor if you don’t resume smoking.
Avatar n tn my wife is taking bupropion sr 150 mg to quit smoking and wants to know if cold medication can be taken while on this drug.

8659741 tn?1399221226 I , routinely did yoga, meditation and many holistic therapies. In spite of all techniques i failed in cessation of smoking and to be free from sleeping pills. Luckily I got rid of smoking 2005.just by chance. All techniques proved to be useless to me.In spite of failures, I continued my attempts and got free from smoking and now I think I will be free from sleeping meds. One month back, I had abruptly stopped xanax and Ambien.
1349377 tn?1276705526 48 hours - Damaged nerve endings have started to regrow and your sense of smell and taste are beginning to return to normal. Cessation anger and irritability peaks. 72 hours - Your entire body will test 100% nicotine-free and over 90% of all nicotine metabolites (the chemicals it breaks down into) will now have passed from your body via your urine. Symptoms of chemical withdrawal have peaked in intensity, including restlessness.
Avatar n tn What if one is TRYING to quit smoking, has told the dr they have quit...and the dr does a blood test and finds nicotine in the test...??? and they are actually trying - but using nicotine gum to try to ward off the cravings??? does the gum count against that person as well??? and what if a blood test was also required for insurance purposes??? would the gum affect anything??? if i'm not making much sense, i will clarify if someone wants / needs it...thanks for any assistance...
