Common Questions and Answers about Chronic stress hair loss

stress

495035 tn?1221753092 No, I haven't experienced this, but it's an interesting question. I know that sometimes stress can bring on hair loss. Or at least that's what my friend's doc told her. Chronic illness can certainly add stress. We all can attest to that!! Do I hear an 'Amen?
Avatar n tn I have chronic telogen effluvium. I also have Sjogren's Syndrome. My hair falls out and grows back - the problem is the growth phase never reaches any fullness before the fall out starts again. I am taking Plaquenil and vitamin supplements - D, biotin, multivitamin and fish oil. I also take Moducare. This was going on a number of years before I started Plaquenil and so I don't think it is the culprit. My dermatologist has no answer. Have you any ideas? Thank you.
Avatar m tn The stress the body experiences from these can also cause hair loss. Otherwise, if it turns out to be a chronic condition, the most accessible OTC is minoxidil (found in Rogaine). Also, if she doesn't like the treatment or suggested tests by her regular doctor, check out ishrs dot org for a referral to a dermatologist in your area specializing in alopecia. Best of luck to your wife!
Avatar n tn use that minoxidil if you are satisfied with that , mean while start using finasteride 1mg tablets this blocks DHT in your hair , which causes hair loss mostly...use multivitamins tablets should include biotin and zinc also...
Avatar m tn I also switched birth control brands at this time so had blood tests done to see what was going on but they said all came back fine and it was probably stress. I started on Rogaine and after about 6 months, the hair loss stopped and all seemed fine though I did have chest pains, went to a cardiologist, had a CAT scan and he said it was just stress. Wow. Then, my husband and I moved to France. Again, hair loss. I started back on the Rogaine and just waited it out.
Avatar m tn It is nonscarring alopecia characterized by diffuse hair shedding, often with an acute onset. There is a chronic form also which persists for a longer duration and starts with insidious onset. Chronic telogen effluvium is hair shedding lasting longer than 6 months. Treatment consists of medications like Minoxidil, surgical approach(hair transplantation) and improvement in diet. My sincere advice is to consult a trichologist.
Avatar n tn neoral definitely is associated with this type of hair growth. the hair loss is probably related to telogen effluvium, which can occur this time post-transplantation.
Avatar f tn Stress is a huge reason for hair loss on anyone. My mom experienced hair loss while undergoing treatments. I have experienced hair loss for stress, medications for migraines (seizure meds for prevention will do it every time). Also my doctor put me on a great prenatal vitamin that helped with my hair loss and I started to have new growth. Soak with your doctor and see what he recommends. Could be a simple imbalance due to stress in itself or the cancer side effects.
Avatar n tn If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. This hair loss usually can be helped by treatment thyroid disease. Hair loss may occur if male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens, are out of balance. Correcting the hormone imbalance may stop your hair loss. Many women notice hair loss about 3 months after they've had a baby. This loss is also related to hormones.
Avatar n tn How common is hair loss after hysterectomy? I am at 6 weeks post op and have noticed a small amount of hair coming out with daily showers. Twice weekly Vivelle patches were upped from .05 mg to .10 mg. I am feeling ok otherwise. I still have one ovary intact.
Avatar n tn I have never heard of insulin causing hair loss. A number of other things may though. Hair loss can be related to the stress of an illness for example and would just be temporary. Do you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes? Some diabetes related conditions can cause hair loss like thyroid disease or PCOS. Some medications for high blood pressure may also. I also understand that some folks with a chronic illness may shed hair indefinitely.
230948 tn?1235844329 Is the hair loss behind the right ear the same as the hair loss behind the left ear? Or is the hair loss random, with a patch missing here and there in the areas you described? If the hair loss is bilaterally equal from one side of the body to the other, then you need to consider a couple of things. It could be mange. It could also be hormonally triggered. It's even possible that it could be caused by Cushing's Disease, which is a tiny tumor on the pituitary gland.
Avatar f tn Stress can make you lose hair also I have thin hair and when I start to stress I lose a little more of it. I'm not saying that's what it is just could be a possibility...
Avatar m tn Hi doctor, I have been experiencing hair loss for about 7 years now. It's getting to the point where I will have to shave it all off soon. It's quite noticeable. I have no hair loss in my family at all. None on my mum or dads side. I'm the only one. I have however suffered from bad anxiety (stress) for quite some years now and wondering if this would be the main cause? Is stress making my hair fall out? I'm quite healthy and all my most recent blood tests are all fine.
Avatar n tn I had these before I thought they where caused by stress and the hair always grew back. Then my hair started to fall out again. a lot. I was just diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Could this be a side effect? Help!!!
Avatar n tn Being under a lot of stress can make your hair fall out. So, that could be one answer. Another thought , have your thyroid levels checked.
Avatar f tn I am a 55 year old female with loss of hair on her forearms and eyebrows. I have a some thinning at the temples. My TSH is 2.570 - which my GP says is normal. He thinks hair loss may be a result of stress, however, I have not been under any more stress than normal life. I have had high cholesterol and osteoporosis for many years, which have not responded to meds. What do you think? Can you have a normal TSH and still have a thyroid issue?
Avatar n tn Hello, Stress is an important cause of hair loss as well as exhaustion and dizziness. It seems that you are not taking a nutritious diet.Malnutrition and deficiency of important vitamins and minerals are a result of malnutrition thus leading to hair loss. Both these causes are modifiable with efforts.Take a healthy nutritious diet consisting of lots of green vegetables, dairy products and fruits and avoid taking any undue stress.Take mutivitamins and multiminerals for some days.
Avatar m tn I have been under MAJOR stress for several years (with almost constant heartbeat/ adrenaline rush + following fatigue. I wonder if this can be the reason for the hair loss? My other assumption is some autoimmune disorder. Doctors checked for it, autoimmune tests came back clear, except one of the "general autoimmunes»that came back positive, but my doctor said also many people without a autoimmune disorder got a positive result on that one.
