He took 1 prilosec yesterday afternoon, 1 this morning and 1 just before bed tonight (it said you could take up to 2 if you had to). I did some research on Prilosec and it said that it could take up to a month to start feeling benefits from it. I was thinking that maybe his esophagus is burned from the acid so it may take a while to heal. He does tend to eat fast, lay down after eating, and drinks alcohol some. I know those are all risk factors of acid reflux.
Does anyone know if pepcid is safe to take for indegestion and heartburn? At night I can barely sleep because of the burn I have in my stomach. I'm 6 wks so they told me to take tums. I took one and I had a bad chest pain so I called again and my OBGYNs nurse said to take pepcid. But she also said all medications aren't 100% safe. Should I take it anyways?
t work, then you can try something stronger like Prilosec. Keep in mind, Prilosec may come with a lot of side effects that can be just as bothersome as the GERD. I was prescribed Prilosec and took it for six weeks until I couldn't take it any longer. Too many side effects for me. It basically blocks acid from the stomach, and while it is effective at getting rid of heartburn, you may experience a rebound once you stop taking them.
I find PPIs are more powerful, so you might start with the others. I take mine before evening meal so it will last thru the nite. I also have the top of my bed elevated 2 inches, it helps keep the relux fluid down in the stomach but sleeping is a new experience, you slide down during the nite. Pepcid is a H2-antagonist, Prilosec is a PPI, proton pump inhibitor, both reduce the secretion of acid.

I would say watch what you eat. No citrus, tomatoes, greasy, sugary, garlic or onions. I would take tums because I still need it even avoiding those foods, but that's the only way I can get heartburn to be mild enough for tums to work. Ask your Dr before taking anything except what they have approved for you.
Yes I actually just puked in my sleep from it a couple of hours ago. I use pepcid AC sometimes I take two otherwise milk seems to work but also doesn't last like the stuff youare ttaking.

You can try an over-the-counter medication such as Pepcid or Axid. If there's no improvement after 2 weeks, you can then try Prilosec OTC or Prevacid. If after 2 weeks there's no relief, please see your physician.
I was put on 10mg of Pepcid 2x a day. My trial Dr. said that Prilosec didn't let you have enough of the acid. They said with the Pepcid there is no time barrier to take it. Said I had better chance of trial meds working if I stay away from the Prilosec. I am into 8wks of trial and totally undetected. I am on sofosbuvir 400 & GS-5186 100mg no riba, 12 weeks. Geno type 2a/2c.
I take prilosec otc. Doc said it's ok and no amount of tums, milk, water anything else worked. Prilosec started working the next day!
Go to a pharmacy and pick up something with omeprazole in it like Prilosec to try for two weeks. You can layer that with an H2 blocker like Pepcid AC or something with ranitidine (better choice). Take the Prilosec early in the day like before breakfast or mid afternoon and the H2 blocker at bed time. It is an experiment, but it could help.
Also, do a search for non-medicinal treatments for heart burn. I know it sounds unlikely.
I take a 20mg tablet daily and I can function fully and eat and drink absolutely anything as long as I have had the capsule. I soon know about it if I forget to take it! That seldom happens I assure you. My question is: I have at least one bowel movement daily - usually after I get up in the morning. My stools are always loose and certainly smell very bad (so my wife assures me!). Does anyone know if permanent loose stools a common side effect of the regular intake of Omeprazole?
