1542537 tn?1293207098 Hi, broken bones take a varying amount of time to heal, mostly depending upon the type of bone broken, the age of the person, and the way in which the bone is broken. Larger broken bones, for example the bones in the thigh, or both bones of leg would take a great deal longer to heal, usually six weeks to three months in the average healthy adult. Begin physical therapy as soon as is practical. That will help.
Avatar m tn t need surgery and my bone was repositioned and i was put in a cast. I had my sixteenth birthday with a cast on my right leg and i have had to cancel my driving test as i can't drive with a cast on. I will be with a full walking cast for another 2 weeks (its been 5) and then i will have a short walking cast for another 3 weeks. How long after that can i drive again and also how long until i play soccer. I will be going to physical therapy.

1196614 tn?1265075773 Greetings, So here's what happened to me and my current concerns: I had a auto accident and I broke the tibia and fibula bones. After 12 days in the hospital without having the surgery on my leg I was told by the doctors that it wouldn't matter the long waiting...Ok so, when I finally got the surgery and after seeing an X-ray of my leg I had some questions from my own. I asked the doctor why my fibula looked like is still broken on the x-ray.
Avatar f tn (let me apologize in advance if this msg is jumbled, confusing, and my grammar is poor... some of my family members think the TV should be loud enough so the people in the house beside us can hear it) Hi everyone. I'm new to the website but thought it may be a great place to ask my question. Okay, so here's the situation. 8 years ago while crossing the street I was struck by a car driven by a drunk driver.
Avatar n tn The standard response is that the brain cells that were just knocked unconscious usually come back in six months. The recovery of functions that were controlled by the now dead brain cells will require your brain to work on neuroplasticity, basically moving control to another part of your brain. That change can take a long time, I have heard of cases 15-20 years after a stroke and recovery can still take place.
Avatar n tn I was given the choice to do a cast or metal rod with pins through my leg for a speedy recovery in witch i choose. It was put through the lower part of my leg down to my ankle Big mistake! I can't even walk a mile without my leg killing me. Hurts from my Knee down to where there is a small bump (feels like bone) on top of my ankle. I need to know if the rod and pins can be removed? If so how fast is the recovery and will the pain go away?
Avatar m tn I have undiagnosed nervous system disorder and I get this actually but more in the groin, and down my left leg, numbness and not being able to tell if someone touches my leg or not. It certainly could be the after affects of the accident it will take a long time for all the nerves to heal, and it oculd be the results of the brain hemoraghe or just that the accident has caused some spinal cord trauma.
Avatar m tn rather, it is a commitment of patient and surgeon to a long process of improving your back and leg pain. Total or 100% cures are rare. Realistically, patients can expect a dramatic and lasting improvement in their back and leg pain. Though many patients are worried about a lumbar fusion taking away their ability to bend and twist, the majority of patients eventually regain the ability to bend in all directions.
Avatar n tn Proper treatment is necessary to hasten recovery, and more importantly, to prevent complications and loss of function in the future.
Avatar n tn I had all the gear removed 3 weeks ago and up until then, I couldnt run/jump and the leg would get sore through the pins if I stood for too long. The original break took about 6 months to get over and the screws supporting the rod were sore the entire time. After getting it all taken out, I was on crutches for 2 days, and 2 weeks later I was running on a treadmill. My leg feels totally normal after getting it removed and I reccommend you to do the same.
Avatar n tn This was the original leg I had problems with. But now my left leg is so week I am unable to walk much without a walker. When I do walk without it I clump around and my left leg jus...
Avatar f tn You have a catheter in with an epidural so as soon as you get feeling back ask them to take it out as this will get you up & moving! They like to see you can walk/wee properly again before discharging you. I had a heavy epidural 1st time round & it wore off quicker than I expected it, I was out of bed in the morning- around 8hours, & I was discharged the next day.
488264 tn?1226520307 It's time to take advantage of that "second" chance. We are so glad that you are well, despite a broken leg. The leg is going to heal and so are you. You have alot of friends here, Wish. I hope you remember that and keep reaching out to us. You are very loved, precious.
Avatar f tn He is still unable to move the entire left arm and fingers, and his left leg. His personality has changed, although he appears to have recovered about 90% of his previous cognitive ability. Depression after the stroke has been severe. Does anyone know of treatment that might help my son reecover the use of the paralyzed limbs? He is only 31 yrs. old, and has gone from a healthy, happy young man, to a depressed disabled person.
Avatar f tn In one, someone ran the red light (mine was green). Left me with broken spleen and a broken kidney and a bunch of cracked ribs. I made a full recovery with no medical intervention. In the other, I was on a motorcycle. A car coming down this mountain road, with sharp and twisting turns, could not negotiate the turn-too much speed- and cut me off completely. I actually had an N.D.E. then. From the scene that I "observed " from up above, my lifeless body was a real mess.
Avatar n tn That means before I can walk it will be 9 weeks from the injury date. All for a broken fibula and sprained deltoid ligament. I think the doctor is being extremely conservative, I need to be weight bearing to get back to work. Does this seem like a rather stiff sentence? Shouldn't it be 6 weeks from the injury date assuming normal healing occurs on the bone?
1070610 tn?1279274410 I am starting hydrotherapy tomorrow with the physio . She is still concerned about leg weakness and now the right leg is showing signs of weakness. I was doing stretching and gentle strengthening exercises through the relapse so I guess they are not as weak as they could have been. I havent been to the neuro. I left a message for him to let him know I was relapsing and did he want to see me?? No reply......so I just carried on as you do and coped with it.
Avatar m tn My 6 yr old female cat jumped from a tree branch about 5 ft high. She is always jumping up onto ledges or down from them, she jumps very high, always climbing trees, etc. Anyway, her front paw is now swollen and she will not walk on it, she limps all around. She does not seem to be in pain, she still goes up and down the steps and jumps on and off the furniture and beds, going to the food dish etc.
Avatar m tn Last Sunday I came home to find my wife sat behind the front door, she said Brian I have broken my leg, She had been putting seed in the bird feeders and fell from the ladder , then crawled all the way up the garden ,through the house to unlock the door so I could get in. Avatar f tn So on 5/21 I thought my water may have been leaking and was having constant lower back pain. Nothing that seemed like contractions and I couldn't time anything. I called my doctor and they said to head in to get checked out. My husband and I went into labor and delivery that night at 11:30. My water hadn't broken and I was 2cm dilated. They decided to monitor me for a while to see if I had any changes.
