Common Questions and Answers about Brain operations per second

operation

Avatar n tn 5 years ago, I had to receive two brain operations, the first being a brain abscess which resulted from a previous mastoid surgery. the second brain surgery was my lower brain had sunken down into my ear area and from that received bacterial meningitis. I was told that I have scarring on the brain, and was wondering would could potentially arise health wise in years to come as I was never fully informed on anything due to young age at the time and routine scans stopped over 2 years ago.
Avatar m tn Then at my 17 I had me second accident and I had 5 operations, 2 majors (around 2-3 hours operation) and 3 minors (around 30 mins operations). All operations were under full anaesthesia. 3 months ago, I had an operation for fixing my tendons. The operation was planned for 1 hour and 30 minutes, but due to complications, was extended to 2 hours and 30 minutes. Around two weeks after the operation, I had my first panic attack.

Avatar f tn My question is, how much riskier it is for him to have this 2nd re-op in comparison to his 1st and second op? Is the scar tissue/age a big obstacle for a surgeon? At the Cleveland clinic, what is the mortality rate for someone my dad's age having a 2nd re-op and how does this compare to an 80 year old having his primary AVR there? Also, is it important for him to have a CAT scan along with a cath before the surgery?

18562852 tn?1465864643 Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation...I am male and just turned 32. Because of my young age my attending Cardiologist is concerned I may have some form of heart disease. Both my stress test and my cardiac ultrasound results came back good (negative). Should I leave it at this or should I be tested further with a CT scan and or MRI...which I believe he may want to do.
Avatar f tn Calif was a highly rated surgeon at a great facility but he turned out to have very little experience with pit surgery specifically, only about 6 per year. The facility also does mostly complex malignant brain tumor surgery. I am having trouble finding out how to locate a very experienced pit surgeon and/or good facility for this particular type of medical problem. We live near Disneyland in S.
487443 tn?1208839512 I also found some surgeons treated autism patients by neurosurgery operations. I wonder whether neurosurgery operations are really effective for curing infantile autism and this kind of therapy is mature. Any risks exist in neurosurgery operations? Any successful cases around the world? After the redundant nerves are cut off, is it possible for them to revive after operations? Hope for your replies! Thanks a lot!
Avatar f tn I have a seventeen year old son that has had several operations for shunt replacements in 2009. He was diagnosed with Hydrochapulus and a Cysts in the "Small Brain" area. The cysts is very large which covers nearly the entire bottom part of the brain at the back. We have just had a CT scan done and they mentioned hypodensity in the Medulla area. My son's behaviour has become very erratic, he is very depressed, and he is suicidal as he does not want to live.
1310633 tn?1430224091 Gasoline futures rose as the storm raised fears of a repeat of deadly hurricanes Katrina, Gustav and Ike which damaged offshore operations and refineries, in some cases for months. Fueled by warm Gulf waters, Isaac was expected to strengthen into at least a Category 1 hurricane and threatening to hit Louisiana midweek, seven years to the day after devastating Hurricane Katrina.
Avatar m tn Yes but I don't believe lobotomies are done anywhere anymore. There are brain operations done in cases of extreme ocd that I could describe if needed but they are targeted to stop specific areas of the brain in cases of a person who is harming themselves compulsively and are done with a person's consent. The difference between them and lobotomies is day and night and its not applicable to anyone posting here anyway.
Avatar f tn Cataract surgery is one of the most common operations done on adults, over 4 million/year in USA. Most surgeons are quite skilled in cataract surgery and most have volumes of 200-1000 per year. If that doesn't reassure you the only place I know by reputation are Stanford School of Medicine Dept of Ophthalmology.

Avatar n tn First, I am not convinced the medications had anything to do with it, becuz he would have been hooked up to oxygen monitor machines postop. But second, it could be whilst he was under, he may have suffered an insult to his brain somehow, be it undetected lack of oxygen (despite monitors) or change in blood supply or a clot.
Avatar n tn I have enlarged ovaries with cysts...both ovaries...what can I expect at the surgeon's visit?
1741766 tn?1311037760 For a long time it was believes that brain cells to not replicate in an adult human. Recent research, discussed in the Scientific American issues of "Brain" contradict this assumption. New brain cells can grow and intellectual stimulation will help, so reading and intellectual curiosity are valuable in maintaining intelligence. On the other hand, one must view intellectual exercises in terms of alternatives sacrified.
Avatar m tn I have one cataract that needs surgery, the other eye could wait. Because my prescription is so strong (-4.25 in the eye that can wait), I've been told I won't be able to wear glasses after the first eye is done, because the two eyes will have images of different sizes that the brain won't be able to fuse. I've worn contacts for years, so I'm not worried about being able to tolerate a contact in the other eye, but I've rarely been able to wear them a full day.

Went to college clinic, sent to ER, ER felt it was cellulitis and prescribed 2 antibiotics. Condition resolved in about 2 weeks. Last Friday, she started having similar symptoms again. Rash this time was not purple, more regular redness. but otherwise symptoms the same.

Avatar f tn Iv had a IOL inserted last October which aimed to correct my vision following operations performed in the 1970s for congenital cataracts. Unfortunately surgery is ongoin. Debris stuck to the new lens and needed flushing out. Several wks later I developed scar tissue which needed zapping with a YAG laser but this caused retinal detachment. The tear was sealed with an ice probe. Full vitrectomy was completed and I had a C3F8 gas bubble inserted.
Avatar m tn There are a lot of informative discussions on macular pucker which you can access with the search feature and archives. Especially pay attention to the comments from JodieJ who has had the surgery and writes very informatively. There is not truly fail safe way of dealing with this. If its not troublesome then live with it. You should monitor it with daily amsler tests, regular Eye MD exams and macular OCT.
