Avatar f tn my husband was 2yrs post liver transplant, that is the one reason why he is also now suffering from monitor blood sugar problem. my question now is about fluctition of his blood glucose, we have a kit monitoring it before and after meal, but there was time when we check it is high then after just a minute it drop down, we are really worried why is this happening? hoping that anyone could help!
Avatar m tn If I monitor my blood sugar levels closely, my levels actually go up during and after exercise. I thought they were supposed to go down. Why is this happening?
Avatar f tn That's what I was thinking as I was reading your post, low blood sugar. I kept getting really bad headaches, nausea and dizziness when I did'nt eat so I used my step dads blood sugar monitor one day when this was happening and my sugar was very low. Eating when I should keeps these symptoms away. You need to see your Dr. Can you call and ask if you can stop in when your having these symptoms? I'm asking this because they can check your sugar right then to see if it's low.
325405 tn?1262290178 Haven't yet been in to see an endocrinologist or a dietary person to talk blood sugar levels and diet. Am having problems dealing with my insurance company who won't even cover my stupid testing strips. They basically are $1 a strip. Expensive. I had gestational diabetes several years ago (gestational diabetes was covered 100% for supplies and visits), so I am aware of how to do all the blood testing and have been doign fine about that.
Avatar n tn He/she sounds like a quack. It is important to monitor your blood sugar (glucose) on a regular basis to understand how well you are controlling your diabetes. Your above 300 mg/dl readings are high and getting real close to a dangerous level where diabetes complications start to set in. I'll get back to when to test your glucose further down in this thread.
5536886 tn?1455827346 How did you choose which blood glucose monitor to use? Are there certain features that make one better then the other?
Avatar f tn One of nurse took my blood sugar using the lancet, lancet is new and strips is new, the nurse forgot to wipe alcohol in my skin and started to use the lancet, theres a possibilities to contract hepa in this way, Thank you
866901 tn?1505506236 My cat, Jax, is diabetic- I have to do random blood sugar curves. Well I have one coming up in Feb that I have to do- I do them myself to save money on the vet plus he gets so scared and traumatized after seeing the vet they may not get accurate results. My question is do you know anywhere I can get cheap test strips? Or a glucometer with the sample 10 strips for relatively cheap?
Avatar f tn Hi i m male 29.weight 95 kg.my question is regarding my blood sugar.5 days ago randomly after heavy dinner i checked my bs and home gluco meter said 225 after almost 2 hours.then i checked half hour later and it was 182 after 3 and half hours it was 103.225 was high so in morning i went to lab with gluco meter and they picked blood from vein and tested on gluco meter ist it was 103 and in lab 87.lab technician told me that go home eat drink tea with sugar and come back after two hours.
Avatar f tn I found I could see better without them. I saw eye dr. And was told that the higher the blood sugar, that leaks in the eye's lenses and acts like a contact inside the eye. My eyes are near 20/20 now but will return to "normal" once my blood sugar levels go down. Some trade off huh?
Avatar m tn HI 48 year old male, 5 feet 8 inches. 164 lbs. Recently had blood test , Blood sugar came back 128m/dl. Doctor has not recommended any medicines . He suggested to exercise and control the diet. Day before the test had a pasta lunch with cola and small pasta fried fish dinner with 2 drinks(alcoholic). dinner complete at 9.00pm. Also had a antidepressant for sleep. Went the next morning for test around 8.am. Is it possible for my test to be wrong given the previous days gluttony.
Avatar f tn I've recently been diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and started testing my blood glucose at home with the One Touch Ultra 2 monitor. The test strips that I've been given are pre-coded, so I do not have to do anything to my monitor prior to testing, other than insert the strip.
Avatar f tn Anyone seen / used the new freestyle test strips? I was given them just a couple of days ago. The new shape is nice but I'm suspicious of them. http://www.abbott.com/global/url/pressRelease/en_US/60.5:5/Press_Release_0876.htm I've heard it said that sugar is sugar, your body doesn't know the difference. So why should our test strips? I take my blood sugar when I feel like it's high but these things give me numbers in the 80 -90 range, never above 100.
Avatar f tn My mother had a blood sugar of 1134 and ahe was talking and walking. Diabetics who have had a very high blood sugar for a long time can tolerate such high readings. Or people who drink alcohol on a regular basis because alcohol helps to lower blood sugar. A glucometer can only measure up to 500. Anything above that will register as "High".
Avatar m tn I drank 8 ounces of fruit juice (mostly papaya), and felt almost immediately disoriented. My blood sugar had dropped to 89. What would cause blood sugar to drop almost immediately after drinking fruit juice? And I realized that this must happen often, because sometimes I sip fruit juice and have a similar feeling. (So no more fruit juice to me!) I hope someone can point me in the right direction as to why this may be happening! I appreciate any and all replies! Thank you.
Avatar f tn So if you have an endocrinologist(I forget but if you do) call them and talk with their nurse educator by phone, tell them your insurance and that you want to monitor his sugar, they may even have you come in for a free meter and prescribe the strips for you. If you don't ask your pediatrician to prescribe one and talk with your pharmacist about which are covered on your plan, strips cost almost $1 per strip so use them wisely and be sure that they are covered.
Avatar n tn Hi- I am 28 weeks pregnant and just failed my 1 hour test yesterday with a 144. Doctors cut off is 140, so I have to take the 3 hour test. I won't be able to take it for 2 weeks as I will be on vacation, but I want to make sure that I am eating accordingly just in case I have it. Has anyone else had this long of a break between tests? And has anyone passed their 3hr?
Avatar m tn You can buy on line Urine Reagent Strips quite cheaply. There are some that test the urine just for glucose, but they do not give an accurate recording of how much sugar there is in the blood stream. These sticks are a good indicator, but they will only detect glucose in the urine if there is above a certain level (fairly high) of glucose in the urine. An HbA1c blood test shows average blood glucose levels over a sustained period (about a 3 month period).
Avatar n tn I had to work with the settings to get the setting that gives me a good drop of blood without going too deep, though, and you will have to do the same. Any new system will take some adjustment. As for the Accu-chek Compact, I personnally don't know about that particular glucose monitor. However, I use the Accu-chek Advantage and am happy with it. I have compared its results to lab blood tests, and find that the results are very accurate.
Avatar n tn t seem concerned....I go for a echocardiogram in 3 weeks. He is going to request the strips to review from the holter as he only has the report to review. He said my physical exam today (listened to my heart, my neck, etc and did short baseline EKG) was normal and if nothing "funky" shows on the strips or the echo that I am normal and fine. I'm concerned - aren't the Supraventricular Ectopy of 2,436 high? Aren't the pauses of 1,206 high?!
1058898 tn?1275675151 Your doctor is uninformed and irresponsible to be allowing your blood sugar to go so high without advising you to do anything. As Zoelula said, it is your health. It is up to you. Get yourself educated and get it under control. Else there will be consequences. This is the plain and ugly, but necessary truth!
Avatar n tn I don't see any harm in checking your blood sugar in order to monitor it. I'm quite surprised to see that your doctor said against it. Since i do not know your condition fully so i cannot jump into conclusion. If you are feeling uncomfortable telling your doctor that your blood sugar is so HIGH, i would recommend seeing another doc. Normal BS is around 70-130 mg/dL....yours being quite high does pose some serious concern. Best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn I found his meter - should I begin checking my blood sugar regularly? Would this be a better place to begin so that I can self-monitor not only to adjust my eating schedule but also to have some information to supply my doctor at the first of the year. Just not sure where to begin or what to do. The world is a lonely place without your parents to provide support and information! Thanks for your advice.
