I have a mildly sore throat that is presenting itself like strep with white pus on my tonsils (minus the severe pain, fever and other symptoms). And strep is notoriously resistant. They now use higher doses of things and antibiotics have additive agents to help them stay potent in killing the bacteria. So, if you took the full course and are still sick, follow back up with your doctor for the next step. Knock this out hopefully soon!

I wake up at night wheezy,coughing up white or clear phlem . I also have chest heaviness and itchiness in the chest area. Sometimes you can also get swollen lymph nodes under the neck. You don't always get pus (white spots on the tonsils or back of the throat) but you usually do. Strep throat can become serious so they do have to watch you. Sometimes it does go away on its own. I would definitely get the swab done.

the doctor give me a week ago 3 injections ceftraxone (to kill the strep) , and took aciclovir 1600mg per day(to treat theherpes). the tonsils are not that swollen now, after these injections, but i have kind of swollen theneck, i dont have bean shaped things, i have the left side of the neck swollen. and i have sores on my tonsils, they are very red, and tiny veryyyy tiny dots like 3, on my gums. i can eat and drink and swallow saliva, but the saliva production increased idk why.

Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.

But I still have not been told by any doctor that an antibiotic is not neccessary for strep throat. They all seem to think there is no other cure. I tend to trust my doctor.

It also can cause a sore throat and other infections but is most commonly worried about because of its problems in child birth. If you are positive they will treat you during delivery or just before having the baby because of the risk of infecting the baby if you have the bacteria. So they will check a few times to see if you carry the bacteria. If you do they will treat you with antibiotics.

Amoxicillin is a penicillin type of antibiotic and Avelox is a quinilone. Different mechanisms of action but both antiobitics used to treat bacterial infections. Quinilones are used less frequently for sure due to some side effect issues and warnings about the class of drugs. I recently had strep throat but since my throat was not sore it was not treated and then went to strep reactive artritis. This all started with pain in my ankles and knees. Within a week I had pain in all joints. It was not always in one joint, moved around a bit. By Sat I was unable to hold a pop can without trouble and opening doors was very painful so I went to the ER and from the blood tests they did they found my strep level was at 200.

Well, like I said it could be the chronic sore throat cause by Fusobacterium as In my post. Some strep that cause strep throat can be resistant to Azithromycin. It depends on if they did a culture and antibiotic sensitivity test or threw an antibiotic at you. Which is what doctors tend to do. Most streps are still sensitive to penicillin though, but some strains have become resistant or not as sensitive anymore.
