Amoxicillin is a penicillin type of antibiotic and Avelox is a quinilone. Different mechanisms of action but both antiobitics used to treat bacterial infections. Quinilones are used less frequently for sure due to some side effect issues and warnings about the class of drugs. Check with your doctor if you have any concerns but they are definately not the same thing.
Often antibiotics have little niches that they are used in.

For many years I have pains that pop up for no reason in joints and muscles and last for usually three to six months and then vanish. I get rashes and tiny red spots on my shins and then clear up. The rashes last about the same three to six months. I had these pains in both my shoulders at once, which almost never happens, so I thought it was my rotator cuffs going due to the work that I do.

I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. I started realizing I got less of my sensory and motor seizures which have always been uncontrollable since I started getting them back in 2000.
I have had a round of Avelox a few weeks ago and recently Omnicef 600mg/day for 10 days and still have discharge. Question,
wouldn't these antibiotics be affective against NGU, Chlamydia or Gonnorrhea? Thanks for the help.
I have tendonitis as a result of taking Avelox. Is this a condition that can be treated like other tendonitis and what is the prognisis?
If you have taken any of these drugs, do you remember if you took them before or after you developed cardiac symptoms. I am wondering if my cardiac symptoms are due to taking Avelox for a sinus infection. If you do need an antibioitic make sure that your doctor does not prescribe any of these drugs. They are associated with a number of devastating reactions.
But in recent years it has become more and more painful and varying degrres of treatment have been used trying to clear it up. First i tried using Zinc based creams(A+D ointment) to treat the area, later antibotics (Keflex, Avelox, Augemintin), steroids, and anti-fungals (OTC creams, nystatin cream, Nizoral 200 mg x 14 days). None of these work, the best effect was the nystatin cream but it only seemed to treat the symptoms but the rash only seems to get worse.
Yes Avelox is very strong that's why he told me to stop it... Shortness of breath episodes are getting little better. Doctors think I'm having anxiety attacks, which could be true cause I have been stressed a lot. I'll give it some time and hope for the best.

Yes, I have moderate to severe asthma, and I actually contracted some lung infection this last spring from having too much mucous in my lungs. It was very bad and took 2 months before the lungs cleared up. I think I might have even damaged them this time as I can't get as high a peak flow numbers (equivalent to the F1 number in pulmonary function tests) as I used to. I'm still seeing my pulmonary specialist to get my asthma in control.

After two days of suffering ithcing in my urethra, followed by a frequent urge to urinate, I began to take some left over Avelox (400 mg) that I had on hand. Trust me, I know this was dumb. 36 hours after I began taking the Avelox (one dose on Friday night at 5:30 pm and one on Saturday at 5:00 pm) I had a swab for gonorrhea and chlamydia (1:45 pm on Sunday). The test results just came back negative. Is it possible that the Avelox ruined the test results?
they put me on a 2 wk regimen of avelox. i am not having any side effects from it, but infection continues to get worse. at this point i feel no end in sight for this infection. it is feeding off the antibiotics and in my mind i will never get well. and i am sure with being on 4 sets of antibiotics, this bug has just grown resistant to anything and will kill me. i don not relish a long suffocating phegmy death. any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Your initial illness sounds like non-gonococcal urethritis which can be caused by numerous bacteria but is most commonly due to chlamydia (up to 40% of the time). You were treated with the therapy recommended by the CDC (azithromycin, 1.0 gram) and then when your symptoms continued were treated with recommended therapy for persistent NGU (the metronidazole was for possible trichomonas). It sounds as though your symptoms are improved but not entirely gone.
Saw Urologist appx 11 days after event with urgency / frequency to urinate, fullness in abdomen, penile discomfort consistent with having to urinate badly. No dischearge and no burning when urinating. Urine sample was clear, rectal prostate exam with secretions showed bacteria in prostate. Diagnosed with prostatitis. I am not sure what (clear) meant? Is the prostatitis coincidence?
Given 2g of Flagyl over 2 days (4 pills each day) and 30 days of Levaquin 500 mg.

the first day i used avelox the effects were really strong and was almost sent to the ER... but after 12 hours it started to loosen up and now im using splitting it in half and swallow half every twelve hours so the effects wont be as strong...
i think i am almost fully recovered execpt for the mucus building up in my throat.. if you happen to know a quick why to get rid of it can you tell me... Thank You so much for your time and advise...
