Avatar m tn Only around 20% of the fat in your blood comes from food, the Liver can make fat by itself and does. Without statins my total cholesterol is 375-400. With 40mg of Atorvastatin accompanied by Ezetimibe, It is 160-162. It has to be said though, more and more research is revealing that fats have little to do with it. I don't think it will be much longer before they finally find the culprit.
Avatar n tn There is a combination drug Simvastatin and ezetimibe that may be better in controlling cholesterol. Discuss these drugs with your doctor. Best of luck to you. Stay positive.
Avatar n tn This medicine can also be given in combination with a statin. Cholesterol absorption inhibitors work in the digestive tract by reducing the amount of cholesterol absorbed from foods you eat. It is important that you stay on a cholesterol-lowering diet while taking this medicine.

976897 tn?1379167602 or do they simply take it for granted that you must have this problem if your cholesterol is over a certain value? From 2007 until 6 months ago, I just took atorvastatin 40mg and ezetimibe 10mg and did nothing with my diet to really speak of. Those meds knocked it down to acceptable levels without me doing anything. I then read about sugar consumption playing a huge role in atherosclerosis, and my Doctor even now believes it's probably a mixture of both fats and sugars.
Avatar m tn The article describes the slower capacity of immune cells to proliferate in the presence of ezetimibe or atorvastatin. The differences were however not very impressive, around 10 to 15% in cell counts after culture in the presence of these cholesterol blocking drugs. It might not be a big surprise, since the de novo formation of cells requires of course cholesterol, as such a slowing down of cell proliferation is not unexpected.
Avatar m tn also statins like simvastatin were reported to boost response a little but better not mix 2 statins, in a report researchers of ezetimibe effect on hbv and hcv suggested the use of ezetimibe with interferon but without simvastin ezetimibe dose is 10-20mg daily but human trials with dose 50mg daily for a limited time did not find any sides or toxicity

315318 tn?1353251800 I was given Ezetimibe (Ezeterol) to add to the statin. So I was now on 40mg Atorvastatin and 10mg Ezetimibe. The results were amazing, I had even lower LDL, higher HDL and very low trigs. The great thing also is that I can eat anything I want and over two years my levels have stayed the same. Good luck in finding your problem and happy new year to you too.
Avatar m tn He prescribed Atorvastatin in addition to vitamins but I did a small research about Atorvastatin and find out there are some contradictions about usefulness of Atorvastatin. Of course the contradiction relates to use of Atorvastatin in combination of interferons and he prescribed Atorvastatin in combination with vitamins but I have not decided whether I use it or not. 1->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18398457 2->http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar m tn The FDA-approved drug ezetimibe (sold under the trade-name Zetia) is readily available and perfectly targeted to the receptor, Sainz said, so the researchers had an ideal method for testing NPC1L1's involvement in HCV infection. The researchers showed that ezetimibe inhibited HCV infection in cell culture and in mice transplanted with human liver cells. And, unlike any currently available drugs, ezetimibe was able to inhibit infection by all six types of HCV.
Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar m tn There was an in vitro study on ezetimibe inhibiting HBV DNA production. The ed50 was fairly low and in a similar range as lamuvidine. So it looked very interesting. But in an in vitro study you have a constant exposure to the drug, which is impossible to achieve in vivo. And the cells used are not the same as regular hepatocytes in human liver, with many differences in gene expression and cellular physiology.
