Hello. I am taking Arimidex (dx May 2007, IDC, 1 cm., grade 3, negative lymph nodes; had lumpectomy, sentinel node biopsy, chemo, radiation; I was 54 and perimenopausal at time of dx and chemo put me in menopause.) I also now occasionally consult a holistic MD (referred by my oncologist) for nutritional advice.
With the information you give concerning your problem with your WBC that isn't much of a change ... you might discuss it with your Oncologist though.
I saw your post about Amiridex I know it's from 2012 but can you tell me if you ended up letting your son take it? If so were there unwanted side effects. My sons endocronologist wants to put him on Amiridex to slow his bone aging so he has more time to grow before he finishes puberty. Can you tell me anything about what you learned.
When I say that I tried Arimidex, Tamoxifin, and Femera..... Arimidex made my joints so stiff and sore that I couldn't even walk without extreme pain. So I was put on Tamoxifin and within 3 months my WBC dropped to 1.3 which is one of the rare side effects. At that time I was changed to Femera, shortly after that I had vaginal bleeding so they did a D/C and 2 weeks later I started bleeding again.
Is painfful intercourse a common side effect of Arimidex? I even have pain from just touching the vaginal area, plus burning from contact to various soaps except Ivory. Will this go away when I get off of Arimidex in 3 more years?
My obgyn wants to give me estrogen cream but my oncologist is against it. What can I do to get relief? HELP!

Please inform me of side effects of Arimidex. Also confirm whether clinical tests proved that arimidex really prevent cancer from returning. Recently I had a lumpectomy. The cancer was confined to the lump in my breast and did not spread to the limph nodes. I had a serie of 30 radiation treatments. My bone density is deteriorating, thus I would like to know whether I have to take osteobond 70mg weekly. Will arimidex contribute to loss of bone density?

This time it mastisized to my right femur which was treated with 10 treatments of radiation. The breast was removed. I have been on Arimidex 6 years now. I have gradually gained 40 pounds, continually have hot flashes and night sweats, have joint pain and now starting to retain water/have diarreah. I had a 135 IQ but after being on Arimidex lost the ability to do math and have problems with simple addition and subtraction. Also I have directional issues.
I am not sure what causes you to post this message. Is there a particular reason why when taking Arimidex, one needs to lose weight and eat 12.000 calories?
I know many women who wish they were thinner and would like to lose weight, but that does not mean it must to be done and can be achieved by all. yes, I am sure on 1200 calories a day and with exercise anyone can lose weight, but not everyone can follow these rules, with or without taking Arimidex.
I do not want to do chemo and radiation but am very willing to do arimidex i am post menopausal 53 yrs old. If arimidex does the job it says why do chemo? Radiation? I have been out of work and my life disrupted for a month and am already loosing everything due to financial stress 6 more months of treatment with chemo and work disruption i fear will ruin me. What are my chances with just arimidex treatment? PET scan shows negative to any cancer anywhere else.
I was 38 and premenstrual. Following surgery, chemo and radiotherapy had 5 years of zoladex and arimidex which finished in Aug 2013.
My periods returned 10 months later but have been very irregular, cycles from 5 weeks to a 2 month and a 3 month cycle. I have had enormous problems with intermittent fatigue, muscle aches, painful breasts, mood wings (PMDD), hypertension. I was fatigued during the hormonal tx but the present fatigue does not improve with rest.
Will broccoli seed extract capsules interfere with Arimidex if I take them both? Apparently broccoli seed extract is also an aromatase inhibitor. I am on Arimidex and blood tests indicate that it is working, as my estrogen levels are low. But a 24-hour urine test prescribed by an M.D. with a holistic practice showed a problem in one of my estrogen pathways, and recommended a broccoli seed extract with SGS (sulforaphane glucosinolate). Might it enhance or interfere with Arimidex?
I have been on Arimidex for seven months and experienced an increase in libido, I am 72. The Oncologist checked for an increase in testosterone. Result: normal. The Doctor checked with an endocrinologist. The Arimidex is blocking the estrogen production and the body recognizes the testosterone more readily and reacts. Are there other women with this reaction?
I just finished my two years of tamoxifen and start my arimidex this week. I recently developed severe stomach pains with cramps, diarrhea and what feels like acid indigestion that has lasted for almost a week. Everything I swallow with the exception of water, makes me hurt terribly. We were in Costa Rica when it started so my G.P. thinks it's either a parasite or a staff infection. I wondered if it could be from my chemo and radiation treatments.
I have been taking Arimidex for 2 years, and all symptoms increase, including CHF. Are these symptoms Arimedex related?
Dear madwilson, Hairloss is not a usual side effect associated with Arimidex. Arimidex is an aromatase inhibitor. This means it blocks the enzyme aromatase (found in the body's muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. My CA 125 is rising from 93 to 156 and now in the 230's... however nothing has changed on my pet scan and no
measurable disease... I am seeing my onc on Monday...and he had recommended to try if i want Arimidex.
I have other options like trying different chemo's... but then we are just treating the number... I wanted to give this
a try.... what do you think...
The purpose of this post is for other breast cancer survivors on Arimidex - looking for experiences with joint pain. I had chemotherapy and radiation therapy in 2006 for a stage 2 invasive lobular carcinoma. I was on Tamoxifen from mid-2006 until late 2008 - when I had an oophorectomy (prophylactic). I had tolerated the Tamoxifen very well for two years - few side effects. I was switched to Arimidex in late 2008 and have been on it since. I am a pretty healthy (other than the BC) - 52 year old.
Been on Arimidex 26 months. Having numbness in hands and feet. Oncologist doesn't think it's related to Arimidex. Anyone have this problem while on this drug?
When in menopause or post-menopause, then Arimidex is preferred. Arimidex is an estrogen inhibitor. I feel comfortable with the idea of switching from Tamoxifen into Arimidex to get the benefit of both. Of course, each case is different and treatment these days is individualized, however, it is important to learn as much as we can to participate in the process.
As a preventive measure, I am considering removing my ovaries in two years, a simple laperoscopic procedure.
I just completed 5 years on arimidex and have been asked to be part of a study and go on it for another 5 years. Has cancer reoccurred in patients while they have been on arimidex, not due to the drug, but due to the cancer. In other words, does taking arimidex prevent cancer from reoccurring while a patient is on it?
