Avatar f tn , locoregional or distant recurrence or contralateral breast cancer), postmenopausal women with hormone receptor–positive breast cancer should consider an AI, either as primary adjuvant therapy for 5 years or sequentially after 2 to 3 years of tamoxifen to yield a total of 5 years of adjuvant endocrine therapy. Women who discontinue initial AI therapy before 5 years should consider using tamoxifen to bring the total duration of adjuvant therapy to 5 years.
Avatar n tn My former oncologist (he fired me because I missed an appointment) reviews my bloodwork results every 4 mos., but has never order a scan and I am taking Tamoxifen. My sister-in-law had breast cancer 5 yrs ago and she was taking Tamoxifen. She recently found out that the cancer had metastasized to her brain. It did not come back in her breast either. Her oncologist also only looked at her lab results for the past 5 yrs. and never ordered a scan.

Avatar n tn In a clinical study in early breast cancer, some patients taking ARIMIDEX had an increase in cholesterol. Skin reactions, allergic reactions, and changes in blood tests of liver function have also been reported.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed last year with stage IIIB breast cancer. I have already gone through the chemo treatments - bilateral masectomy, radiation - finishing up in a few months with Herceptin. I started to take Tamoxifen a couple of months ago - I've been experiencing bad headaches - hot flashes (these are to be expected).
1446961 tn?1284577797 I myself had to try 2 before they put me on tamoxifen and that was due to me having a cancer history. I pray it works out for you as you have gone through enough without these drugs causing you more pain.
Avatar n tn Hi there! I had breast cancer (stage 1) 2 1/2 yrs. ago - had a mastectomy, followed by chemo. I'm now on tamoxifen. I've been having moderate hip and shoulder pain for the past 6 mos. or so - can't cross my legs easily, especially bothers me when I'm sitting or less active. Any cause for concern here? I've been avoiding doing anything about it, as it is not as bothersome some times.
Avatar f tn My med/onc gave me a prescription for Tamoxifen or he said I could just do nothing for now. Even with a twin and a mother with breast cancer, I have decided to go just the watchful waiting route for a while. It's a personal decision. Just wanted you to know that like Dr. Goodman said, this is something they are now prescribing for OVCA as well as BC, and I still may end up giving it a try. Best wishes...
Avatar f tn I had grade 3 dcis &idc, er and pr postive breast cancer last year. I have tried Arimidex, Tamoxifen, and Femera with no luck. Now the dr would like to do a total hysterectomy. I am 45 and stopped having periods 3 years ago. Is this beneficial or not?
Avatar f tn I had breast cancer in 2008. It was the second time around on the same bbreast! The doctors told me that it wasn't a metastasis, but a second primary. The first time it was in 1998, and I had a lumpectomy, radiation, and took Tamoxifen for five years. The second time, although the cancer was quite small, since I couldn't have radiation on the same breast, I had a mastectomy, and reconstruction. I have been been taking Arimidex, since the summer of 2008.
Avatar n tn Hello, I read of your concern regarding the prescribing of Arimidex for your mothers metastatic breast cancer. I can tell you that the test results were so good for Arimidex that they stopped the tests early and started prescribing it. I was prescribed it for breast cancer that had spread by following the aorta to my stomache and intestines etc. The important thing is that I survived for over 7 years on Arimidex with very little side effects.
1030058 tn?1252253572 I am approaching 5 years clear of Breast cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage 1, Grade 1 ER+ right breast cancer in 2004. No node involvement at all. However it was also Her2neu positive. I had a trt mastectomy w/ 16 lymph nodes excised, all negative. I then had 4 cycles of Adriamycin and Cytoxin.
Avatar n tn Hi, Your mom was probably diagnosed with stage 0 breast cancer, which means DCIS (Ductal Carcinoma In Situ). This type of breast cancer is confined in the duct and is not invasive. Depending on your mom's full biopsy report, the usual treatment for DCIS, would be lumpectomy, which is the complete removal of the area of concern and making sure to obtain clear margins, plus radiation.
1162347 tn?1293503170 s. For info about Arimidex (Arimidex vs tamoxifen study), see the reply by zouzi to the question, "Recurrence of breast cancer," posted by cristy1973, Jan. 23, 2010.
Avatar f tn this is commonly done for women who have experienced breast cancer and there is good data to show that this reduces recurrences in breast cancer. the data for ovarian cancer is not so clear. There definitely are side effects to femara! Tamoxifen usually gives the least side effects but Arimidex may be OK as well. For women with BRCA1 mutation, there is good information to suggest that a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy is the best risk reducing intervention.
Avatar f tn My mother took Tamoxifen for 5 years after her second breast cancer. She lived for 14 more years, dying at 80 of undiagnosed ovarian cancer. Undiagnosed because she was SO stubborn and would not be examined for some symptoms that were pointing to that disease. All told, she lived for 27 years after her first breast cancer.
Avatar f tn This is my 4th time of Stage 1 breast cancer/1 cm..I am a very young , active 76 year old..I need to make a decision rapidly ..I have 3 options ...#1...lumpestomy /no radiation/but on Arimidex....#2 ..a mastectomy/1 side/no reconstructive surgery because of radiated skin....#3 a mastectomy with a skin.graft for tissue, etc..Please help me. with your knowledge and perhaps experience....I need it !!!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer and underwent a bilateral mastectomy eventhough my tumors were considered to be small--level1. My mother had breast cancer twice, first time did a lumpectomy and tons of radiation and was pronounced cancer free after five years. The next year the cancer was back and she had a mastectomy. My question is since my tumors were small even if they were estrogen fed shouldn't the mastectomy have been enough.
Avatar f tn Early results from this study indicate that Zometa in combination with endocrine therapy (goserelin plus tamoxifen or goserelin plus arimidex) lowers the 5-year risk for breast cancer recurrence by 36% compared to those women who were being given endocrine therapy alone. Zometa apparently not only prevented bone metastases, but metastases to other body parts as well. It also decreased recurrence risk in the unaffected breast.
Avatar f tn Chemo goes through your entire system and kills cells that are currently present and possibly hiding elsewhere (your positive node implies cancer cells have moved outside your breast) and Arimidex simply helps prevent recurrence. Ultimately, the treatment choice is yours. Good luck to you!
