Are levoxyl and levothyroxine the same

Common Questions and Answers about Are levoxyl and levothyroxine the same

synthroid

7991152 tn?1396061810 Synthroid and Levoxyl are the 2 main ones. Then there are also several manufacturers of generic levothyroxine sodium. All manufacturers are allowed a certain "tolerance", meaning their products can vary by a certain amount. Some argue that generics are not as good as brand names. While there may some variance, an 88 mcg pill should contain 88 mcg levothyroxine +- the allowed tolerance.
Avatar m tn I've been reading the previous discussion about generic vs branded medicine as it relates to hypothyroidism. I am on Levothyroxin and need to know if it's the same as Levothyroxine. Thanks This discussion is related to Levothyroxin versus Synthroid.
Avatar f tn it states to take levothyroxine (which what the brand Levoxyl is) 4 hours apart from iron supplements. The reason for the separation is that supplements can absorb the med before your body has a chance to, thus voiding its benefit. Food can do the same thing but the separation time on that only needs to be at least 1 hour. Good luck.
168348 tn?1379357075 I buy a lot of generic products, which are made by brand name companies, with the same ingredients. Its the advertising of the "Brand Name" products that is where the high cost comes from. Generics don't carry the "Brand Name" on it nor is it advertised, therefore cost are lower. Nearly everyone can take synthetic levothyroxine. It is identical to the body's own T4 .
Avatar n tn Since generics use the same active ingredients and are shown to work the same way in the body as their brand-name counterparts, they also have the same risks and benefits.
Avatar f tn What was wrong with the way you felt on Armour? Feeling "horrible" doesn't tell us much. NatureThroid and Armour are both desiccated hormones, made from pig thyroid. They both have the same amounts of T4 and T3 in them and are dosed the same. There's no big difference in the 2, other than the manufacturers, the fillers/binders and dyes.
Avatar f tn Had been taking levothyroxine for years and had no idea that the horrifically debilitating mental and physical symptoms I've been experiencing were due to levothyroxine usage/ingestion; and taken off levothyroxine Sat. after much protesting re same. I'm currently not on anything! Will see doc 9/11. Heard not good idea to take N.D.T. (natural desiccated thyroid) gland rx ie Naturethroid, Armour, etc. due to possible autoimmune response by N.D.T. (pig).
7074596 tn?1387754708 Yes, Levoxyl is the same as Levothyroxine which is the generic name . Synthroid is the Brand name for Levothyroxine. So it is the same drug.
393685 tn?1425812522 I take Levoxyl, a form of levothyroxine, as is Synthroid and several other name brand T4 products.
Avatar f tn I was recommended to try the generic of Synthroid even though the fillers can change it anytime but was going to go with Cvs because they seem to be the best when it comes to generic. Synthroid was too strong for me and I don’t want the same reaction from the generic, I just can’t win this battle it seems. Thank you for reading regardless.
Avatar n tn The active ingredient in levothyroxine and levothroid is the same; however, each manufacturer uses different fillers/binders to make the pills. Some people can have reaction to those. I agree that there is debate over the use of generic vs brand name. I actually did better on generic levo than I did synthroid, but everyone is different.
Avatar f tn Another good one is Tirosint, which is a gelcap and contains only glycerine, water, Levothyroxine and gelatin. Tirosint tends to be the most expensive, but the manufacturer has programs for those who qualify. Is TSH the only thyroid related blood test that's being performed regularly? What about Free T4 and Free T3? Those are the actual thyroid hormones.
Avatar m tn Certain foods, including walnuts, can interfere with the absorption of Synthroid, as well at other replacement thyroid hormones, such as Levothyroxine, Levoxyl, etc. The recommendation is to separate these foods from the medication by 2-4 hrs. Of course, it would depend on how many walnuts one is eating, but if there's proper separation there shouldn't be any trouble with absorption. Most medication pamphlets don't have some of these specific cautions on them.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your help! I feel a lot better then a few months ago but a few of my symptoms have returned (freezing, tired, and brain fog). Most days I feel better that others which is better than feeling like this every day. What would be better: upping the T4 or the T3 or both? My appt is in two weeks wanna make sure we're on the same page.
1139187 tn?1355706647 First of all, you cannot confuse Levoxyl with levothyroxine. Levoxyl is a brand name drug. If you are prescribed Levoxyl, you get the same drug from the same company (King Pharmaceuticals) just like you get Synthroid from Abbott Labs every time if you are prescribed Synthroid. If you are prescribed levothyroxine, you get the generic version from whichever manufacturer your pharmacy feels like buying from Note the brand names it the following link: http://www.medicinenet.
4274823 tn?1388529098 Levo-T is Levothyroxine Sodium, which is the active ingredient in all synthetic thyroid replacement hormones and aside from the brand names, there are several manufacturers who produce them - these are the generics. Many doctors refuse to prescribe the desiccated hormones and if your doctor is pushing Synthroid, I'd guess he might be one of those.
Avatar f tn Synthroid, Levoxyl, and other brands of generic Levothyroxine all have comparable doses. If you switch brands from generic to Synthroid, the dose would remain the same unless your doctor changes your dosage for some reason.
Avatar f tn I know some people are sensitive to the binders in the different products, and they say changing makes all the difference in the world to them. However, that has never helped me. It's the actual drug that I'm sensitive to.
Avatar f tn Or have Abbott (Synthroid) and King (Levoxyl) launched a massive propaganda campaign to smear their competitors? The same charges of inconsistency were lobbed against the brand names several years ago. They have supposedly addressed their poroblems and now put out a superior product. Call me a cynic. Just food for thought...we all need to go with whatever works best for us.
Avatar f tn Glad they are treating you....You are still so hypo, hang in there. It will take all the patience you have to get through the dosage adjustment. It took a year to get me correct (15yrs ago), and guess what I have to go back this morning because they think my thyroid level is off again due to irregular cycles. (over medicated). I have been on levothyroxine for the last 15yrs.
168348 tn?1379357075 The announcement certainly looks authentic and from what I can find, the first announcement was made on Mar 25 and apparently, Levoxyl is the only med affected - at least right now. I know we have some members on Levoxyl, so if you don't have a good supply, you might want to talk to your doctor about a replacement.
Avatar n tn the generic is the same im on it and have no side effects it could be your thyroid even when its controlled you can get symptoms check to see if you have a parathyroid problem and take a blood test for that.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Levothyroxine since 1999. The aches and soreness does seem to increase if I do the least bit of work. And if I do alot of work, like work in the flower bed I am just about past going the next day.
Avatar n tn Synthroid is one of the brands of levothyroxine, Levoxyl and Unithroid are other brands. There are also several (around 8) generic producers. The key is consistency -- if your pharmacist can always get generic T4 from the same source, that usually works as well as a brand and can save money. If not, then there may be fluctuations in the response to the T4. In general it is recommended to "protect the brand" to ensure consistency.
Avatar n tn Is synthroid and levothyroxine the exact same ? My Doctor ,mistakenly, changed me from levothyroxine to synthroid, same dosage. After taking it for 3 days,I have been itching really bad. Is there a connection between my itching and the change in medicine ? This discussion is related to Synthroid versus generic levothyroxine (I have Hashimoto's).
Avatar n tn what is the difference between levothyroxine and thyroxine if they both are the same dosage.
