Levothyroxine get you high

Common Questions and Answers about Levothyroxine get you high

synthroid

Avatar f tn What dosage of NatureThroid did the doctor prescribe? The pharmacist is not authorized to change a medication and prescribe a dosage like that. 300 mcg of Levothyroxine is very high and it would be very rare to start out on such a dosage.
Avatar f tn you must mean hypOthyroidism -- key with pregnancy is to adjust the levothyroxine (preferably a brand to ensure consistency in pregnancy) to keep TSH in the 0.3-2.0 range before and during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn 9 normal range being 1 to 4.4 ) and was prescribed 0.05 mg of levothyroxine. I have been taking it for 2 weeks now , 1 at week I felt a little better. But this week my weight started shooting up again my stomach is bloated and I am getting headaches and feeling very dizzy . I checked my blood pressure in cvs and it came to 140/100 which i understand is stage 1 hypertension. I haven't had hypertension before. Is his bcoz of levothyroxine ? I have my next appointment only in June.
Avatar f tn Patients with high TSH numbers, such as you, will get their thyroid blood tests repeated (including checking for iodine deficiency) every 6 weeks (at least) until the TSH comes down, other tests normalize, etc. Synthroid isn't a "bad drug" but many patients and their newborns "do better" with a medication that contains T3 in it (Natural Desiccated Thyroid brands such as Nature-throid and Armour Thyroid).
Avatar f tn TSH, per se, causes no medical problems whatsoever. TSH is merely a messanger from your pituitary to your thyroid, which tells your thyroid to produce more hormones (T4 and T3). So, what is much more important than TSH is your free T3 and free T4 level. These are the actual thyroid hormones and responsible for regulating metabolism. Many factors, other than thyroid hormone levels, can affect TSH, so it's imperative that FT3 and FT4 be tested every time you have bloodwork.
Avatar m tn I know im in the wrong forum but would like to know if you know about high blood pressure and hypothyroidism. My Tsh level was around 8 and my bp was 150 over 90. I am on levothyroxine 50 mcg and taking blood pressure pills 2 a day. I am 24 years old and have high both of these issues.I have no sex drive or desire at all.I dont get any morning or night erections and erections are to weak for penetration.
Avatar n tn You are so great thank you!! I am writing down everything to ask him. The nurse at my infertility office did say that I was negative for antibodies so I assume that I don't have Hashi? But unsure of course I am going to ask for new tests of everything. Does the levothyroxine take care of the Free T4 ? I know theres a different pill for Free T3 right? This is confusing but you are helping so much. At least I will know a bit about what I am talking about when I go to meet with the Endo.
Avatar f tn looking at the labs, it is clear you are not converting to enough T3 here. You could have 2 choices. Depend on the T4 Levo to do all the work and up the meds to see if the FT3 level increases more to relieve you of the hypothyroidism or - Go on the T3 XR med and see if getting directing T3 in you helps. Option 2 would be what I feel would be best and will work faster then depending on the T4 only meds to do all the work.
Avatar n tn You need to start levothyroxine ASAP - you have two high TSH levels confirming hypothyroidism. Would test thyroid antibodies to confirm this is hashimoto's (increased risk due to mom's history of Graves).
Avatar m tn What was the reference range for those FT4's. Ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own report. That was before medication? How long ago did you reduce your dosage? It takes a dosage change approximately 4-6 weeks to take full effect, because of the long 1/2 life of the levothyroxine. The difference between TSH and FT4? TSH is a pituitary hormone.
Avatar f tn At first - I doubt you will notice much change, but as time goes by and you are clearly become hypothyroid, you definately start to feel very ill.
Avatar f tn Next time you need a scan or More I-131 treatment insist on using thyrogen instead of coming off medication for a month. I am now seeing a new endocrinologist and he told me how dangerous, old school practice and unnecessary it was for me to be off thyroid meds for a month, I used thyrogen for a scan this year and didn't suffer at all. It's expensive but with the history of cancer the insurance company will cover it.
Avatar n tn Is TSH the only thyroid related test being done for you?
Avatar n tn without know you history I will say that you need to be on the levo for the rest of your life Your dose needs tweaking from time to time You realy should be have blood testsdat least every 3 months.I would suspect your illness is not from the levo but your dose needs to be tweaked and get you on the right dosage. In my case I have lost 22 pounds and I was on too high a dosage so I had blood labs and sure enough I needed to lower my dose of the levo.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with hypothyroid less then a week ago and started taking Levothyroxine 50mcg and 2 hrs after I take the meds my heart races and feels like its literally going to pound its way out of my chest. I phoned my Dr with my concerns and she told me that it takes time for your body to adjust and to keep taking it until I'm re-tested in 6 weeks. My chest now hurts and I am afraid to take the meds. Anyone else have this issue?
Avatar f tn I think an FNA is needed. 898 would be a good person to ask this.
Avatar f tn You know the dose is either too high or you worked up to it too fast if you start having hyper symptoms. I have a heart arrhythmia, so for me, personally, increased episodes (lots increased) of tachycardia was my first sign. Also, my doctor started me on 88 mcg. I had to back down to 25 and then start building over a year to get to my optimum dose, which has been stable at 75 mcg for almost two years now. So, obviously, going directly to 88 mcg was too much, too fast.
Avatar m tn I'm not sure where you're researching to find that Levothyroxine has an adverse effect on bones. That's not true. Everyone needs thyroid hormones and when the body doesn't make enough, we have to get it somewhere else - Levothyroxine, in some form) is the # 1 prescribed thyroid medication on the market. We don't know your age, but hypothyroidism can have an adverse effect on bone density in children.
Avatar m tn My dog has had hypothyroidism for several years and has been on 0.2 mg of Levothyroxine twice daily ever since. Recently, when they did a check on his T4 they found that it was low and they increased it immediately to 0.4 mg. A week or two later he began to significantly pant and wheeze. Then he decided to give him 150 mg of Theophylline twice daily. Could the thyroid dose change have caused these symptoms or is it a coincidence?
Avatar n tn My TSH level is 99.97. The doctor prescribed .150 of Levothyroxine. Do you think this is too high to begin with? I have been on the medicine for 10 days. I am feeling a little jittery and my BP seems to be going up a little. Thank you.
Avatar n tn He was diagnosed with hypothyroidism because TSH was high (tests have shown as high as 20). He was given Synthroid, got to a dosage that lowered the TSH to normal (can't remember now). Neuropathy never improved, he doesn't like taking pills, he sees no point. He sometimes says he feels better if he doesn't take it. About 3 years ago, at my urging, he got a referal to an endocrinologist who said to try Cytomel.
Avatar m tn If you read the insert on any of the T4 meds, like levothyroxine, you will see that the recommended starting dose drops considerably if you have been hypo for more than a few months. I'd guess with your very low FT4 that would be the case. Since you are young, and assuming you have no history of heart arrhythmia, I'd suggest you ask your doctor to start you at about 50 mcg. After about four weeks, you can retest, see how you feel and increase as needed.
Avatar m tn Levothyroxine may be fine, all things being equal. But if all things are NOT equal, if you have an allergic reaction to levothyroxine--which I think many do--adrenal issues, or tissue resistance to thyroid hormones, then, in my opinion, levothyroxine is probably worthless. I personally have 2 of the 3 situations above--not sure yet if I have thyroid resistance...need more lab work. But this makes it a bit more of a conundrum for me, and others, I'm sure.
Avatar f tn I started on my meds 6 weeks ago because I have had a possible thyroid problem all my life. At that time my TSH was just at 3, but i had so many symptoms and mine always fluctuates, so the doctor agreed to put me on 75 mcg of levo to see how it made me feel (I weigh 160lbs). He wanted to try to get me down to .5 TSH. Just got my 6 weeks test results back and I am clearly on too high of a dose (TSH = .023!) but i have been feeling terrific lately....
