1475202 tn?1536270977 The ammonia test is but one tool of many for assessment of hepatic encephalopathy (HE). A patient's history of liver disease (cirrhosis and portal hypertension) is the best indicator that a patient may have had an HE episode. Most ammonia is produced in the intestine during the breakdown of nitrogenous compounds. Which is why patients with overt HE are advised to avoid red meats which during digestion create a lot of ammonia.
19691093 tn?1488194069 On January 3, I started giving him Aluminium Hydroxide gel powder as a phosphorous binder. (His bloodwork from February 3 showed phosphorous at 4.4, which was previously at 6.3 on December 19.) Today is February 24, and 4 days ago on February 20, I stopped giving Bebe the Aluminium Hydroxide because of suspected allergic reactions. On February 8, Bebe started pawing at his face more than usual.
Avatar n tn There is more than one variety, and a specialist is needed to determine the specific type. Generally ammonia will destroy this kind of mold. I know people recommend other liquids, but ammonia is the way to go. Before using the ammonia the room should be "dewatered" with use of one of more dehumidifiers. These molds like moist places.
Avatar f tn Two and a half years ago, in status epilepticus, unconscious for 3 weeks, my ammonia level was 1,494. The test was taken numerous times because no one could believe that I was still alive. I have this documented. I have no history of drug or alcohol abuse. Have you ever heard of anyone with an ammonia level this elevated who survived it without any lasting organ damage?
Avatar f tn Are you talking about Magnesium Hydroxide/Aluminum Hydroxide? Are you taking this to help with w/d symptoms from opiates or have you been taking this separately & feel you've abused it?
Avatar f tn Alternatively your city could have added ammonia to your water supply. You can buy a water filter that takes out both ammonia and chlorine, but most water filters don't take out ammonia (chloramine).
Avatar m tn I have SIBO and some history of elevated bilirubin (non conjugated) and mildly elevated Lipase. Doctor continues to discount my Iron numbers. TIBC 234 (range 250-425 for my age) Ferritin 347 (range 20-345 for my age) Iron 106 (range 40 to 190) Saturation 45% (range 15-60% for my age) I finished an initial treatment for SIBO (xifaxan) and had some elimination of certain hypothyroid type symptoms. Now I've begun supplementing with Boost drinks again to try and regain weight.
Avatar f tn Yes, it is safe to take Advanced Maalox while pregnant. Aluminum hydroxide magnesium hydroxide; simethicone is classified in FDA pregnancy risk category C. When used occasionally at recommended doses not exceeding package labeling, aluminum and magnesium containing antacids have not been found to produce teratogenic effects and are generally considered safe for use during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Mellie has been taking Aluminum Hydroxide (10 ml) with food each meal, but today she had violent diarrhea and vomited last night's steak. She doesn't have long - I finally coaxed her to eat some boiled chicken and drink at 10 pm - but I am afraid to give any of these meds - she feels so bad. I gave her Cerenia. No more vomitting/diarrhea today, but there nothing inside her...
Avatar f tn By using lactulose and rifaximin in the proper amounts the levels of ammonia and other toxins are reduced. The ammonia is created when food such as animal protein is not being digested properly. The rifaximin modifies the breakdown of food in the intestine. Lactulose keeps the digested food from staying in the intestines and creating ammonia and other toxins. I have had various levels of HE and when my mind is clear I can think as well as ever. Many friends have been comatose from HE.
Avatar m tn I have 57 ammonia level in July and in August 97 ammonia level. Took Lactulose and two weeks later had 101 and added the antibiotic effixir (sp) just last week. Will this be chronis? Is there hope to get it down and keep it down? The test showed a slightly enlarged liver. Could this be caused from spreading fertilizer, coloring my hair and spraying poision? I cut out the protein except for fish, eggs and a few other things. Driking lots more water to flush my system. Any other suggestions.
Avatar f tn I'm 6 weeks pregnant and I work in a paint department. I mix colors and clean up paint pretty much. Since I've worked there we have always used glass cleaner to clean the paint off the desk and our hands. I didnt know this until today but the cleaner we use has ammonia in it. I've been using it every day for a few months to get the paint off of my hands. Could it have hurt my baby?
Avatar n tn We discovered that my husband had an episode of Encephalopathy, which is high ammonia in the blood. But by the time we had his blood checked his levels were right smack in the middle of the range. Doctor said he was fine. So my question is can this ammonia gone untreated continue to rise and lower on its own. Because he has days that he seems fine and then days when he is not with me completely. He does not eat much as his taste buds are totally out of wack. Most foods taste very salty.
Avatar f tn I recently found out I had high ammonia, it was 66, I am taking lactalose and it is is now normal. All my blood work is within normal ranges on my liver function test and I also had a sonogram, have a mild fatty liver. Was wondering what could have caused this. I do drink a few beers a night.
Avatar f tn I started a new job 3 mths ago, much less sedentary than previous job. I have a history of migraines & joint swelling (diagnosed as arthritis). I have just been weaned off of steroids after being on them for a month (MD put me on IV Solu-Medrol every 2 hours when I was hospitalized recently for bronchitis; followed by Medrol Dose pack which did not work, followed by prednisone). The side effects of the steroids were intolerable.
