We all know that the gas could be hydrogen sulfide or methane or someting nitrous depending on what consume. But this doesnt explain how it passes through glass windows/doors. The sun emits infrared / UV radiations that can penetrate through glass and hence heat up our car interiors. Obviously, this heat radiations that the sun emits is odorless but perhaps our bodies emit similar radiations that are heaty and suffocating.

It is also possible that, if the concentration of ammonia is high enough, chlorine gas will form. If it starts to give off a strong odour and your eyes are burning, flush it and open a window or turn on the ventilation fan immediately, then get out of the room. Chlorine gas is highly toxic.

I have heard of this and it isn't safe at all nor remotely accurate. Urine has ammonia in it and when ammonia and bleach mix it releases a very toxic gas, and almost always when urine hits bleach it will fiz or foam that's what creates the gas. I had a friend who tried this once in high school, (just for fun, she wasn't pregnant nor did she want to be) and she ended up in the hospital from the gas it created. Sorry didn't mean to scare you just stating the facts.

hi there i am a chronic cluster headache sufferer and i worked on a electro chemical machine for 8 years,after 4 years i started getting very painfull headaches,i went to a neurologist and he diagnosed me with cluster headaches.after reaserch on my machine i was exposed to ammonia gas given off from sodium nitrate in the water,the ph level was 12 when i found out after ph of 7 ammonia gas is given off,i was not protected by any ppe.

I’m sorry to hear of your husband’s troubles. Is he currently taking Lactulose or anything to manage ammonia production? The Lactulose will be the sticky-sweet liquid that gives him the runs? He may need to have that adjusted, or possibly have another drug added to that regimen.

You can have a blood test to check the levels of ammonia in your blood, but I’ve not got round to investigating it yet. I’m convinced it’s a gas or a toxin linked to one of our bio-chemical body reactions. One day it will all make sense.

Urine has ammonia in it. Ammonia mixed with bleach makes a VERY toxic gas.

Black mold can be very toxic indeed. There is more than one variety, and a specialist is needed to determine the specific type. Generally ammonia will destroy this kind of mold. I know people recommend other liquids, but ammonia is the way to go. Before using the ammonia the room should be "dewatered" with use of one of more dehumidifiers. These molds like moist places.

The lactulose does work, but I prefer a good diet because the lactulose or Inulin both way make everyone very gas laden a bloated.....toot toot. .

I believe that we emit ammonia from our bodies due to to the imbalance in our stomach and digestive track. Are bodies cannot get rid of the excess ammonia properly so it comes out through our pores causing people to sneeze and itch. There are some bacteria in the gut that produce hydrogen sulfide gas. Sometimes this gas is produced in such huge quantities that the sulfide oxidase enzyme in the wall of the gut is not able to oxidize all of it and convert it to thiosulfate. Hence the gas enters the blood stream and gets filtered by kidney into the urine. This gas has a smell of rotten eggs. You can test its presence by test strips available OTC.

If I sit in a room, there I get a lot of smell coming from me within the room or workplace or anywhere indoors. I tried skipping a lot of foods (gas producing) and have taken lot of gastro related medicines/ consulted with gastros but until now nothing has helped me to get over from this condition. The blood test for ammonia is AFP or alpha fet protein test. It measures the level of ammonia in your blood. When it is high it is not much fun. The explaination in Hector SF's post is so accurate. The first indication for me that it is high is that my hands shake and I can't write and it's hard to hold fork or spoon. I also get confused easily and can't sort things out. Sometimes I think I'm okay - until I get it in control again and look back.

Yes you bleach/dye your hair!!! Just when dying your hair make sure its ammonia free or what not! And for bleach I would you the powder && the volume liquid and mix it up to make my bleach that way!! My husband's ammonia level is @ 68; 2 weeks ago was @ 60. He is currently taking Lactulose 15 ml twice a day; 2 weeks ago he was lethargic, confused and had extremely poor coordination, was diagnosed with hepatic encephalopathy. He has dramatically improved but his ammonia level continues to rise. He was advised to increase the lactulose to 30 ml twice a day for 5 days and then resume back to 15 ml twice a day. Is there any other medication for elevated ammonia?

Most of the ppl who I have run across who are really bad with these symptoms are stage 4 cirrhosis or ESLD. What is your current HepC status? Do you know, or are you starting to have obvious symptoms? I suggest you find a good Heptologist to talk to about your options.
