Common Questions and Answers about Ambien generic drug

ambien

Avatar f tn i have been using ambien for many years now. i used the ambien and it's generic form zolpidem. it has always work up until two months ago when apparently the pharmacy changed suppliers. i took the little round purle pill up until then and now i take a white oval one. This one does not seem to be working as well and the side effect just seem wierd Does anyone think that the new manufacturer product is inferior and has anyone experienced this?
Avatar f tn There is lot of mixed reaction from the users of Zolpidem to help sleep, it has done wonders in few people while few are not satisfied with its use or the side effects of the drug and its dependence. Ambien is meant for short-term use and not for years. I would like to suggest you to consult a sleep doctor and discuss the other options for alternate drugs. Take care and share your thoughts.
Avatar n tn If a person is addicted to ambien, a doctor should be consulted to seek appropriate professional treatment (Drug rehab programs). No attempt should be made to stop taking the medication on one’s own. Lunesta though effective causes weird nightmares on waking up. Lunesta is also seen to cause a very nasty metallic taste in mouth after intake. You should consult your healthcare physician for advise on which drug would suit you better . Do write in if you need any additional information.
Avatar f tn This was an issue when Ambien went generic. Many of the generic zolpidem formulations don't work. You can find forums on the internet where people talk about finding the generic zolpidem that is the exact same formulation as the original Ambien tablet.
Avatar n tn Its good thing you did to get more information on the drug before you start blindly. Can you say the reason necessitating you to try this drug? I think you are facing sleep problem? It is better to get evaluated by your doctor or get a sleep study done and a prescription from your doctor rather than try online. It might be Ambien ( ZOLPIDEM) given for short-term treatment of insomnia. See this link for more information - http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/zolpid_ids.
Avatar f tn Ambien is good choice for treatment of insomnia, but it is intended for short-term use. Elavil/Endep can be tried if you are not comfortable with Ambien and it is a non-addictive drug. Try to relax and plan a healthy sleeping habit on a long-term basis. Avoid coffee/tea, smoking, alcohol and a bulky spicy meal at nights. Do regular casual exercise, concentrate on some fine work like reading a book, listening to soft music, have warm shower and a gentle body massage prior to sleep.
Avatar f tn My wife and another female relative have taken Ambien (generic) for years, and it still seems to work/help. I do not know what the W/D part of your subject is about.
Avatar f tn ok so it's 1am and i'm on the computer...anyone else having trouble sleeping? i sleep for a few hours then get up to pee. then i toss and turn for the rest of the night. this is really beginning to get to me. my dr gave me ambien but it's still at the pharmacy b/c my hubby (who is a nurse) doesn't want me to take it being that it is a class c drug. that means it could cause birth defects.
Avatar f tn I have been worried for six months and have been abusin ambien. I am off of it now and cant sleep. Can a person never sleep on their own again. I havent taken a nap or slept on my own in 6 months. I am scared to death. Antidepressents dont help me. I am worried about breast cancer since I have atypical hyperplasia. Can ambien cause breast cancer? I have an ultrasound to do this week because of abnormal mammo. Could the ambien be the cause of a new breast problem?
Avatar f tn It was a new purscription but was told by someone this information "I work for a primary doctor if your doctor will write you a script for lunesta in a generic form your insurance will pay for it also they will pay for ambien in generic it's alot less cost he should give you aleast a 30 day to see if it will help.
Avatar n tn Ambien (zolpiedem) helped me. It works quickly, doesn't give a morning hangover and is pretty cheap as it's available as a generic. I haven't tried the Ambien CR (time released, non-generic). Only thing about ambien is that, for me, I wake up after about 6 hours. But those 6 hours are pretty solid sleep.
Avatar m tn a taper is recommended...they make oblong generic ambien that can be broken inot 4 pieces...i would suggest using that kind to taper with....u may have to call around to drugstores to get those...but they are out there...those are what i use and i break them into 1/4 pill when i take them....when they gave me the little tiny round ones...i gave them back as i can not break those into 4 pieces...how much does he take each night?
Avatar f tn I am 4.5 weeks and I am on ambien have been for years because I cant sleep without it. I was on 10 mg then dropped it to 5mg with two tylenol pm wondering if thats ok.
Avatar f tn Your doctor should have been aware of that and held off on adding a sleep aid. The Ambien sounds like nothing more than drug overload to me. And the pharmacist telling you to take Benadryl is a tad questionable in my book as well. He/she should have told you to call your doctor immediately. Any time there is chest pain involved, it should never be ignored. Benadryl WILL make you sleepy, but it sure won't save you from a heart attack. I realize I may be scaring the daylights out of you.
Avatar m tn s making you sleepy when you take these meds. You can also find generic versions of Benadryl sleep aids at most drug stores. However, as the med labels will tell you, if you are still having trouble sleeping after taking these meds for 7-10 days, then you really need to see your Dr. as you may have a serious problem such as Sleep Apnea. You should not try to treat insomnia without your Dr.'s supervision.
Avatar m tn For the mood tracker, could you please add Ambien or its generic Zolpidem to the list of medications currently listed?
1218318 tn?1266808601 Ambien never seem to be a drug I enjoyed, other than getting a good night's sleep. I got hooked on the good sleep. But as I used it, I knew that some day I'd pay the piper in no sleep for awhile. I didn't realize from reading the drugstore poop-sheet that I'd go into Bredycardia when I withdrew! Instant teaching machine. Insert pill and learn a lesson. I actually fell asleep on my chair with my finger on the keys of my laptop once.
Avatar f tn Very interesting....In my personal experience, trazodone can't even compare to the efficacy of Ambien....but, we're all different in our reactions to drugs. I know that Ambien is available as a generic now, but I wouldn't recommend that route. Again, the generic couldn't compare to the effectiveness of the brand. Summer.....what do you think?
Avatar m tn i also was perscribed ambien, i felt worse after taking it so i am living with the insomnia.
492921 tn?1321289896 I do not respond to generic Ambien the same as the brand Ambien. I would recommend trying the brand, if you can afford it. It can make all of the difference. I am so, so sorry to hear about your miscarriage and your post traumatic stress. Sleep will be very important in your recovery, so I hope that you can get this resolved. I would not recommend using xanax for sleep, however. What dosage are you taking?
Avatar m tn When a patent for a brand name drug expires, pharmaceutical company can make a generic form of the drug. Effexor patent expired in 2006, since then several generics are available. Those generics are usually cheaper but they must contain the same active ingredient(s), the same dosage form, at the same dose or concentration, and for the same route of administration. The generics are usually cheaper and can use different inactive ingredients and preservatives which can sometimes cause trouble.
Avatar n tn By the way, if your dr gives you Ambien ,there is a difference between the real thing and generic, I could tell tht right aways.. I don't know about you, but I just keep taking ifferent pills till i get sleepy. Good Luck. Let me know if there is a mirical drug out there !!
Avatar f tn Ambien CR is a longer lasting drug. But I'd get off of it with what you're experiencing. Your psych doctor knows best, work with him on this. I personally have refused Ambien due to all the side effects. Take care..
480448 tn?1426948538 Zolpidem is commonly found in both generic and name-brand sleep aids. Ambien and Ambien CR are probably the most recognizable prescriptions that contain zolpidem, but it is also found in Zolpimist and Edluar, according to the FDA's statement. Here is some of the key information to have emerged regarding the FDA's decision.
883607 tn?1241847511 You can try Webmd for generic names but most drs and many pharmacists have a 2 tier system, name brands and generic drugs and dispense them accordingly. Not all name brand drugs have generic equivalents so they don't use the generic names. Most pharmacists also are so busy that they only have time to verify the meds in the bottle against what is in it and read the possible side effects if needed by a patron.
Avatar m tn Yes, I agree with you - many of the generics aren't as effective as the brand name. I found that to be true with Ambien - the generic didn't work so I immediately switched back to brand. In fact, my plan pays for brand name drugs, so I ask for brand for everything - xanax, ambien...I returned the unused amount back to my drug store the next day and made them apply my co-pay to the brand. Funny about the dexedrine - I'm assuming that a psychiatrist is writing this script for you?
Avatar m tn I've been having trouble sleeping the last few months and at my recent physical, my doctor prescribed Trazadone. I took it a couple nights and couldn't get out of bed and then felt groggy and unmotivated the rest of the day. Doing some research I found out, after the fact, that this was initially an anti-depressant. Quite frankly, I don't like the idea of taking something that was formulated for a psychological condition which I don't have. Long story short, I trashed the pills.
