Avatar f tn I take Toprol XL 200 mgs. and Altace 20mgs. and have for many years however recently I have experienced an increase in blood pressure. I have lost some weight and continue to diet as well as exercise. My doctor has tried two calcium channel blockers with the results that I become very ill and unable to continue these medications. Any suggestions?

I seem to dehydrate rapid and cant hydrate fast enough - even when I cutt down on the dieretic med.
Avatar f tn Why is my systolic blood pressure still high when I am taking Altace. My diastolic blood pressure is normal when I take Altace. Why the difference. Could I have angina since I have had pain in my chest around the heart area and in the middle of the chest. Also, could I have arterialschlorsis from the high systolic blood pressure? This discussion is related to high systolic normal diastolic blood pressure?.
Avatar n tn I, too, take Toprol XL as well as meds for depression and anxiety and have just learned about these problems with it.
Avatar m tn Never had a heart attack. The Cardio put me on Metoprolol ( 50mg); Altace 2.5 mg and baby aspirin in addition to Lipitor 20mg. Sep. 2009 he took me off the Metoprolol and increased the Altace to 10 mg. My Blood potassium level at the time was perfectly normal at 3.6; after the spike in the ace-inhibitor my potassium level has risen in two months to 5.6, which I believe is an unsafe level. My family doctor has now asked me to go back to the 2.5 mg dosage and get re-tested after two weeks.
701418 tn?1231214894 is there any cold meds that are safe to take to get some releife from coughing at night? Im on Toprol and Im not sure whats safe to take with that.
Avatar f tn They gave me lopressor 25mg and a 1000cc of NACL. They sent me home with instructions no caffeine and take toprol. I have never smoked and do not drink. I do have the normal stressors with being a RN, wife and mother of two but other than that nothing. What could be causing these problems? The Dr cannot find anything but do see the high B/P and palpatations.
Avatar f tn Have you checked in with your eye MD?
Avatar n tn this sounds like a question for a medical professional , and you should be prepared to give some history.
Avatar n tn Yes, I know that Toprol XL is the brand name extended release version of metoprolol. However, there is a generic equivalent called metoprolol er, which I assume his doctor gave him. I have read many posts on this forum where users indicate that switching from Toprol XL to metoprolol er still report having problems. The generics are not always as good as the brand name ones.
Avatar f tn I started on Toprol in December and they got more frequent. The dosage was raised in February. They became a little less intense throughout the month and finally almost completely disappeared a few weeks ago. I knew better to celebrate and I was right. THEY'RE BACK!!! Ugh is all I can say. I had stopped the caffeine, hydrated myself and began eating bananas for the potassium.
Avatar f tn We then figured out my svt was caffiene induced so I cut out caffiene and my doctor reduced my Toprol to 12.5mg and said I could eventually ween myself off. So I was feeling fine no headaches so I weened myself off and about a month later I am now getting headaches/migraines almost everyday. I was wondering if these headaches are related to my svt and if anyone else has had this problem. I'm so tired of waking up with a nagging headache everyday.
Avatar n tn I have taken up to 200 mg of Toprol and had an occasional drink, wine or beer, and had no detected ill effects. I think even two would not be a problem, but I would not recommend doing that on a regular basis. Here I understand that binge drinking could have very bad effects, on Toprol or not. I also believe that a "glass of wine" every night should be acceptable, but I do not do that. I almost never have a second glass either, unless it is over a long period of time, e.g.
Avatar m tn I have been on Toprol for 3 years and have put on twenty pounds use to be a runner but I cannot find enogh energy to start back I have tried and tried, I have been through a couple of stress tests with very good results doctor thinks could just be in my "electrical " system he is reluctant to take me off Beta Blockers but I want my old life back, can I ween off Toprol to see what happens? Only other medical history is Chrone's and I have been in remisssion for six years.
Avatar n tn I have taken this med for several years and have a history of depression. Just recently my depression has become quite severe! I have decided to stopped this med! Any advice?
Avatar n tn Does anyone take NSAID's with their Beta Blocker? I take Toprol XL and it said there is a moderate drug interaction.
Avatar f tn My blood pressure runs around 91/60 and my pulse rate at 50 is this to low is this why I might feel sluggish and tired with no energy. I take medicine for tachycardia 50 mg p/day of toprol xl.
Avatar f tn Dear Di: I have taken toprol xl for about 12 years and have not had a problem with it.. The XL stands for extended life.. it is not all released at once in your system..So I would say the reason you cant take it just when you have a problem is that your body does not get the full effect immediately.. You have to take it and build it up as I understand it.. dunno not a dr...but thats the way Ive always understood it.. basically its a very safe medication to take... hope this helps.. .
Avatar n tn Hi - 49yo male in otherwise good health, had an mi and placement of 3 stents in RCA. Was told that there was no damage to my heart, and have returned to all activity including hi-intensity workouts (which I was doing pre-mi). I've put on about 30 "pity-pounds" (from 185 to 215) and despite increase in exercise and near-saintly eating habits, having a hard time losing. I suspect that Toprol is causing this problem.
Avatar m tn I have been healthy all of my life and workout regularly. I am 6ft tall and weigh around 185, non-smoker and drink only occasionally. I recently had chest pains at my place of employment and they took me to the ER for evaluation. My heart rate was dropping to 38 and my BP was 89/50. I had Bigeminal Couplets and numerous PVC's. My labs came back normal with no increased Troponin level. Mag level was fine also. They prescribed a Lexascan Stress and an Echocardiogram.
760070 tn?1234470413 Before I was put on the flecainide (4 months ago) I kept getting more and more PVCs and they increased my toprol. After a week or so that seemed to help. I take the flec for a-fib and a-flutter. Maybe a combo of flecainide and toprol. Those seem to be used frequently together. My EP at Cleveland Clinic said taking the 2 together also reduces the chance of a bad reaction to the flec.
Avatar m tn and all I had was a thickening of the septum. He later prescribed Toprol XL and I have been on it for two years now with little or no issues. I decided to go back asking if I might wean off the Toprol XL. I brought along my most recent blood work and EKG - all were good. BP was 110/80. The Dr. said that since I had an EKG recently he would not do one. He said, "I am not going to make more of this than there is.
Avatar n tn I take the toprol xl and I use the generic and it cost me roughly $20 and I take 125mg twice a day. but you must make sure it is the generic for toprol xl because there is metoprolol succinate which is the generic for toprol xl and metoprolol tartrate which is the generic for lopressor. They both work in two different ways so they can not be interchanged at the same dose. I asked this question before toprol xl became a generic.
Avatar m tn t get a hold of my doctor to ask this question, though i will this week. I take Toprol for my heart, and i have really bad PACs, so i was suggested to take the Hawthorn. Obviously on the internet it says you should ask your doctor before taking the two together, as Toprol slows your heart, and supposedly Hawthorn does the opposite? Anyways, i am not taking the Hawthorn yet, just wanted to see if there were any ppl out there who takes the two together, and if it messed with them.
116881 tn?1189755823 So can i just go along with my life and my Toprol XL and live as usual? I dont know how to move forward. Some stuff I read makes it sound serious and others make it sound like just something that is bothersome. I dont know how to approach it or if I should be considering an EP study or what?
