I dont think Abilify works for depression alone. I ran out of my effexor xr (antidepressant) and only took my abilify and was a real mess for a week.. It was as if i werent taking anything. The abilify doesnt work alone in my case. Its only a booster pill, so to speak. I was tearful and restless without my antidepressant. However that could have been withdrawal or something.
Abilify can be used to augment antidepressants such as Lexapro.
I use Lamictal to augment my Pristiq and it works much better than just the Antidepressant alone.
Combining SSRI's or SNRI's with mood stabilizing drugs such as Abilify or Lamictal can often help a lot. Although they do take a good few weeks to kick in.
In the past I have taken just about every drug you mentioned above, but I am supprised that your doctor has never tried you on an SNRI such as Effexor XR or Pristiq.
ve experienced a major depressive episode. Anyway, I HAVE tried Abilify with Effexor XR. I had to stop taking it because it gave me restless leg syndrome. I couldn't sit still. It may not affect you that way, but that's what it did to me. That was the only negative side effect. I wasn't on it long enough to know if it was beneficial emotionally/psychologically, but I "sensed" that it might have been if I had been able to stay on it.
I just saw my doc today and he suggested i go on Abilify also. But when i went to the pharmacist he told me it would be $40 a month for the script. I can not afford that. The pharmacist told me about Effexor XR (that will be going generic July 1st). Has anyone been on this?? Has it helped?? I have also tried paxil, WellbutrinXL, and Prozac. These made me more depressed. I guess i just need some help as to what else is out there that works...
He was taking all of these up until about two weeks ago and at that time, he stopped taking Abilify. He was prescribed Lamictal in lieu of Abilify, but we had to wait until we got the correct dosage before taking him off Abilify. His tics seemed to be less intense while on Abilify. Could this be my imagination since at this time the tics and more intense and prevalent?
I took Abilify as an adjunct to Effexor XR about two years ago. It made me have restless leg syndrome. It may not affect you that way. Everyone is different. If you're going to try it, make sure you're consistent about taking your meds. They can't work if you don't take them as they're prescribed. I don't mean to preach to you, but you know what I'm saying is true. Good luck if you try Abilify. I hope it works for you.
m also taking cymbalta and seroqul xr. I have tried abilify and it drove me crazy...shaking all the time, anxious, felt like I was being followed, etc. I've also tried Geodone and it left me extremely drugged to being unable to concentrate, remember, or communicate - even on a low dose. Don't give up on looking for the right combination, but I agree with others, you need to see your doc right away to try something else so you can find some peace.
Have also just went from taking cymbalta and abilify to the effexor and abilify, but went off the abilify because of the weight gain. Dr wanted me to try wellbutrin and go off the effexor, but don't think it was working. Now I'm really confused on what works. For a couple days of being off the wellbutrin and on 150 of effexor i fealt great. But 3 days later i feel horible again.
Hi. I am taking Risperdal and 300 mg. effexor xr and 20 mg. Celexa. It has been trial and error but finally with the increase of the effexor xr and addition of Celexa I still have some depression and some mood swings but overall, I am MUCH better.
I took Prozac for many years and really good success, really worked great for me and after several years it lost it's effect on me. Sometimes it it a matter of increasing your present meds. Best of luck to you.
How many of you on the above drug have gained weight. I've just started Seroquel XR 50 mg. and have noticed an increase in appetite and have gained approximately three pounds during the past two weeks. Other than weight gain I have had absolutely no side effects.
Please tell me of your experiences. I'm afraid of ballooning out as I'm already overweight and can't afford to put on more weight.
I have been taking Wellbutrin XR, Lexapro and Klonopin (as needed.) Last year we added Abilify and the results were incredible. I came out of a very dark place, laughed, chatted, felt positive emotions and, for the first time in 15 years, felt like a "normal" person. But after a month or so I developed severe akathisia. It was so unbearable that I stopped taking Abilify.
This year I moved to another state and began seeing a new psychiatrist. I decided to give Abilify another try.
We did not see any improvement with her symptoms, although she lost 10 pounds in 6 weeks and she was already thin. We switched to Adderal XR 20 mg, and have gone to up 25 mg, still no results. Anyone have any advice?
im on serquil 200 xr,s..there good but gain weight on them..i get them from family docky..wanting to find a shrink,,to put me on the right ones??PLESE HELP ME????????????????
This so new to me. I have had mild depression for about 10yr. and always relied on a med to help. Last Feb '10 my dr. put me on abilify and boy did it perk me up. however, the side effects were worse then the depression. no sleep!!! unable to concentrate, overeating, restless legs. So I stopped. I then plunged into the WORST depression and my first panic attack (lasted for 4 days) no eating,heart palpatitions, etc.
I pray this is the one to get me back on track. She started me out on 75mg for 3 days and then 150 mgs for the next 3 days and then leveling out at 3 75mg pills at once.
I know some of you can tell me some things about EFFEXOR XR.
