abilify

1305767 tn?1361192676 Just told me to exercise, and eat better. Gave me Abilify instead of that Seroquel and told me to come back in two weeks.
1012542 tn?1313354880 Currently on Effexor XR, Depakote, and Seroquel. Still seems like not enough relief. So to add Abilify and discontinue one or leave it alone? My Phd. is not much help on this one, I think I've burned him out. I only see him now for 15 min. med mgmt. sessions and then see my Psychologist for therapy. Any thoughts on this one good people?
Avatar f tn I have been taking a number of medications since I turned 21 in 2008, the first being Prozac, Adderall, and Seroquel. I was only prescribed Seroquel for as long as my doctor wanted to "observe possible Bipolar symptoms".... after about 3 months he took me off Seroquel. After years of continued difficulty with bouts of depression, anger/irritability, sleep, I saw a new doctor in 2015 who prescribed Abilify 5mg along with Adderall.
571167 tn?1223214465 All the antipsyc drugs cause weight gain.. so beware. If I had to choose one or other...def seroquel. Abilify can cause long term brain and muscle effects that are irreversible. . Read up on abilify withdrawl. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Talk to your doctor. Seroquel works well instead of Abilify as you know (why did you change?) but there are others in the same class of drugs as well that are good medications. There are several to choose from. Seroquel is one and if it worked before, no reason to change. But that is between you and your doctor. You should definitely start there. That issue can impact erections as well as poor mental health can affect this. Get the mental health sorted. Then get penis sorted.
Avatar n tn I went off Seroquel and tried Abilify and one other (cant remember) but they did not work. I am now backon Seroquel 300 miligrams along with my Lithium and Pexeva. I feel like it doesnt work as well as it did the first time. I went up to 450 with Seroquel, but I am just way too sleepy. Does anyone know a drug that works well with Pexeva and Lithium? My biggest problems are racing thoughts and anxiety when I am off of the Seroquel. Help!
Avatar f tn DX with Cyclothymia and was given script for Effexor, then Seroquel and now Abilify. Dumped Seroquel down toilette and want to do the same with Abilify. Pristiq was the best and want to find MD who will put me on that.
5544493 tn?1369608788 Well, as thatquietgirl said, it really depends on the individual. Part of it also depends on whether you're BP I or II, and whether your main problems are depression, mania, or a lot of both, and whether you have psychosis in the mix. Lamotrigine and carbamazepine are generics, for the record, and Abilify and Seroquel are still under patent and so there aren't any generics yet.
574118 tn?1305135284 One thing you might ask your doctor if you can try is stopping the seroquel and starting abilify in its place. Abilify is approved as a monotherapy or adjunct treatment for BP I, and is also approved as an antidepressant add-on, so if depression is your problem, it might work. You could also try other mood stabilizers like depakote, which has pretty good antimanic effects, or tegretol, or lamictal if you mainly get depression. Also, have you ever tried lithium?
1714202 tn?1352672419 True abilify is an AP but activating and can cause anxiety for some. On the contrary seroquel or zyprexa do not, but zyprexa is heavy.
Avatar f tn All of the psych meds cause weight gain except a very few like lamictal or abilify and perhaps not. All the anti-psychotics like zyprexa and seroquel also cause weight gain and even cause diabetes in the long term. There are many out there who take depakote and a majority who also take seroquel. It's the dose in your case which is the main reason.
1255530 tn?1269867619 My husband - also bipolar - takes Seroquel too. He started on Abilify, had bad side effects, and was switched to Seroquel. He loves it. Good luck in your research and in finding the right cocktail.
1052851 tn?1307741160 I told my doctor about it, and she changed the Zeldox, which was 80mg daily to Abilify, which I take 10mg in the morning and 10mg at noon. Will this add on assist with the weight gain? How does Abilify affect the Quetiapine? I would like to drop the noon (100mg) Quetiapine at noon as it tends to make me too tired all day.
Avatar n tn I used to take Abilify and while I was on it, I gained almost 50 pounds. I had an unquencable appetite. I ate constantly. After coming off of that - i have lost all of my weight. He put me on Geodon after Abilify didn't work and I have lost weight like crazy in the last 6 months. I am tapering off of Geodon now and will only be on Lamictal for the first time since my initial psychotic break a few years ago. I hope I don't gain weight again!
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist would like to change me from Seroquel to Abilify because Seroquel makes me feel very drowsy. I have read different things about Abilify but the most confusing bit is that some people report drowsiness while others report that they have increased energy and sometimes can't fall asleep. Which is it?
Avatar n tn is anyone on saphris? my pdoc changed me from seroquel and abilify to this new med, which i start tonight. the other 2 was causing my blood sugar and pressure to start going up. i felt fine taking this combo but don't want to take 2 more meds for blood sugar and blood pressure.
585414 tn?1288941302 I too am pleased with the Seroquel, but I would like to see if Abilify helps, I just dont want to go through the terrible reaction I have had with the new meds. Are there any that do not make you anxious or gain weight - this is the question I am searching an answer for.....I guess its all trial and error?
642393 tn?1227032656 Abilify has a lot of information on the web about side effects and a quick google may work well, always remember that side effects are not all going to happen to you or even likely - Abilify is well liked and fairly safe compared to some of the AP and AC drugs like Geodon and Risperdal.
Avatar f tn I am now on 1200mg Valpro and 25-50 Seroquel per day that I prefer to take at night. I can not function or drive on the Seroquel at all! I still need sleeping medication or I don't sleep at all. I have been on sleeping medication since I had heart surgery, 5 years ago. Even longer story, but I think my Bipolar Disorder was brought up by a lot of physical stress/trauma through surgery and we immigrated to a new Country, 2 years ago which brought on its own challenges, etc.
774805 tn?1235948571 Abilify is one of the newer atypical anti-psychotic medications. It is also known as aripiprazole.
Avatar f tn m a little afraid of the seroquel. i develpoed a bad twitching in the right side of my face from the abilify. and it was only 1mg. hope someone has some answers.
574118 tn?1305135284 my depression is usually not severe, still i can't function without an antidepressant. Thus the dilemma --> manic --> antipsychotics --> lethargic --> antidepressant ... i.e. the usual My meds are the least dosage: 1mg risperidone, 25mg seroquel, 12.5mg stablon (AD) but it's the instability that suffocates me. So if I can find some supplement adjunct to my AD then i can lessen my dosage of AD which in fact i tried it once and found myself doing well but my energy was low.
Avatar n tn The medications, first seroquel, then switched to abilify then back on seroquel, left me feeling really tired and more depressed. If I were bipolar, wouldn't one of these medications have worked for me?
2010625 tn?1329372056 My doctor is checking my hormone levels because my periods have stopped and I am lactating. He said if my hormone levels are high I can either add Abilify or replace the Risperdal altogether. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any medications that I could replace the Risperdal with. I don't go see my psychiatrist for another 2 months.
