My dr is talking about trying Abilify as an adjunct to the low dose Wellbutrin I'm currently taking. I am not bi-polar. I've suffered from recurring major(?) depression off and on for a few years. And seemingly a low grade depression for much longer.
I'm not that keen on taking a medicine which is primarly an anti--psychotic. Not sure how this drug found its way to treating depression. The possible side effects are a concern.
Anyone prescribed Abilify for depression?
Does anyone know much about the drug Abilify? I have been taking the lexapro for a few weeks, and not sure that it is the right drug for me. About four days after I started taking it I felt really stranged, confused, depressed. I started the med for anxiety/panic. Not feeling as bad now, but still alittle down. I took lexapro a year ago for just about a month, but did not have this side affect. The dr said we could either change antidepressants of try taking .5 of the lexapro and 2.
I could not tell you how it works for depression as I am not depressed. I hear however that nearly everyone who takes it in that respect needs it as an adjunct to an antidepressant for it to work properly.
I started lamectal about 2 months ago and take abilify and trazadone as well. I have lost my hair significantly in the past 2 months. I take Lamectal twise a day 150 mg. Abilify 15 mg & 50 mg of trazadone. I also take 1mg of klonipin as needed. Could any of these be causing it - a combination? Any suggestions? Depression will never go away if I am bald. Please help. I would like to discontinue the one that is causing this.
I'm on 30 mg of Abilify, but I've been on it for almost 3 years. I was scared to drink coffee at first, well when I was first diagnosed with BP anyway, but then I got over being scared and am now back to being a caffeine addict. It doesn't bother me, but my body is used to the meds already. So maybe you should wait till your body is used to the meds before adding caffeine back in.
He added Abilify to my Wellbutrin today for my irritability and moods. It is just 2.5mg for now. I have avoided meds for years for the fear of weight gain. I know for a fact many people say Abilify makes them gain extreme amounts of weight. I was wondering if anyone know about taking the bupropion and abilify would still cause such an increase in weight gain?

I am on abilify and it took me a good 4 weeks to feel all of the effects. It doesn't make me manic, it actually calms that aspect down. If I get manic at all, it's hypomanic and a good one at that, so I don't complain. ;) You could be one of those people that have the opposite effect, but I'd give it some time unless it gets too severe.

m 45 year old woman and there is lots of family history of mental illness on both sides. I was on prozac for 4-5 years for depression. my new physc put me on lamictal..once i went up to 200mg i felt very very spacey so i am back down to 150. about 5 weeks ago she took me off my prozac and on lithium. I started at 300mg then moved up to 600mg..at that dose i was getting very severe nausia. then last week on tues i started to cry and could not stop..

Excessive sweating can be one of the majot side effects of Abilify, however, I have never heard of anyone developing cysts from taking the medication.

Abilify is an anti-psychotic med commonly used to treat psychotic illnesses such as bipolar disorder, schitzophrenia, etc. It is sometimes used as an adjunct treatment (in addition to another antidepressant) to treat clinical depression, alrthough I've honestly never heard of it being Rx'ed alone for depression. That doesn't mean it isn't done or that it won't help, I'm just telling you the common uses.
The second doctor actually started a broad spectrum treatment. Mood disorder includes depression, mania, bipolar, and substance abuse. Abilify is indicated for depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and could have worked if you had taken it for some time. Please discuss in detail with each of your doctor. You need to make a change in the treatment because SSRI including celexa are not working. Take care!

s an antipsychotic too but good for both anxiety and depression. I also helps you sleep well and although abilify is known to combat depression but my knowledge is that seroquel is the only FDA approved AP for depression.
In any case you need unfortunately to be be patient. Psych illnesses are not flu say where one takes antibiotics and it's finished.
