569026 tn?1216982293 Taken several SSRIs in the past for anxiety. Adderall XR for ADD, Wellbutrin too. I have been seeing a therapist for about 4 months and he had me go for a psychiatry evaluation a few days ago. The two concrred that I am "complex" and could be a combination of BiPolar 2, Adult ADD and even...Borderline Personality Disorder (god I hate that name). Anyhow, one of the main symptoms we all agreed upon was the mood swings.
Avatar f tn t much, but my understanding this drug is only officially approved a last-ditch antidepressant for those for whom nothing else worked. I assume there are good reasons for this limited approval. (Keep in mind doctors can use these meds for anything they want once they're approved, but knowing what they're approved for gives some information on what studies showed). As to that particular side effect, any drug that affects the brain can make one sedated or the opposite, overstimulated.
571167 tn?1223214465 Kind of worried because i was on Seroquel at one point and it did the same thing but i stopped taking it because i was unable to care for my 4 kids. Dont want to go thru this again But just want my bi-polar under control. Please help?
Avatar f tn Hi all, I've just found out I am pregnant and I have been taking Abilify (Aripirazole) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine) for the last year, against bipolar disorder, my doctor recommended to reduce it slowly and then stop it. He said that I have taken it so far wouldn't harm the baby. I am still very worried and wondered if anybody has any experience with this. Thank you!
873773 tn?1257560602 My mom has been on anti-depressants for years and when it Lexapro stopped working the doctor prescribed Abilify the moment it hit the market. her doctor said it helps when your current medication basically needs a boost..not a miracle drug by any means. But then again what works for one person may not work for next..no it did not help her...gave her more anxiety. But I am sure this is something you need to discuss further with your doctor.
Avatar m tn What were you given Abilify for? Yes all the mental health drugs have side-effects that effect each one of us differently. It is sad but i think that they help some poeple too and they don't know you will react to them before hand. :( I am sorry you had a bad experience with this medication.
Avatar f tn Yes, I meant Latuda. She is on 60mg for ODD. She has also been on Abilify. Her main problem has always been her ODD but recently since starting junior high she has had a hard time with her ADHD. She can't focus and organize herself. She doesn't want to do homework because she says she can't concentrate. I just don't think the Latuda is helping much. And I need a recommendation for a good ADHD medicine. What do you recommend for helping with ODD and mood disorders?
Avatar m tn Abilify is actually an antipsychotic drug that has anti-depressant properties. Usually Abilify is used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and as an adjunct therapy (add on therapy) for major depression. The treatment prescribed depends on your psychiatrist’s assessment of your case. However, the dose prescribed is the lowest for the drug. Treatment for depression usually begins with a low dose of SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). Some doctors prescribe benzodiazepines too.
Avatar n tn my doctor has given to me abilify and wellbutrin, is it good for quit smoke and go school well? i cant go school well. i cant stay in classroom. even i cant go to school. i always want to stay at home. i am out of my home, i quickly want to go back my house. also i smoke 3 packet cigarette in a day. also i have serious sleep disorder. i explained my problems to my doctor. then he gave me wellbutrin and abilify combination. what do you think about it?
Avatar n tn I have recently been reading about the blood sugar issue. My son is taking seroquel now but as he is not diabetic, I have no idea what it is doing to his blood sugar. He's also currently on a very low dose of 12.5. I guess it mostly makes him sleepy and unfortunately, too sleepy as he doesn't like it. I like it because it gets him to stay asleep all night but with severe depression, I know it's probably not doing anything for mood at that dose.
Avatar n tn All because of Lamictal and Abilify. Recommend that you do a search for Abilify side affects. She should be weaned off that dangerous drug.
Avatar f tn thankz for the advice its hard for me to look for medz especially with a mother that just dont understand how serious this disorder is...
585414 tn?1288941302 Weight gain and the potential of diabetes is a potential for all currently available antipsychotics. Abilify has the least potential to cause this. Abilify and Geodon are activating and can make some people feel anxious. As for Fanapt and Saphris they are newly released and are clinically similar to Abilify but that doesn't mean they will have the exact same profile.
Avatar f tn Its rare but possible for a child to have bipolar disorder. If he is diagnosed with Asperger's that is a developmental disability and although those can have behavioral problems that can be severe they don't generally respond to medication like psychiatric disabilities such as bipolar or ADHD but both diagnoses can occur together. They need to provide specific diagnoses as for follow up and treatment and you should discuss this further with them.
202665 tn?1248806733 No soundproof room here, but 3 very loud kids who are used to hearing me scream all day, so ur safe here! LOL I'm all too familiar with what ur going thru right now. It seems like that's the constant mood I'm always stuck in anymore. I would say take a nap, but I'm assuming ur at work. Can u read a book for a few? That helps me. When I'm raging I shut myself in my bedroom and read, watch tv or take a nap while the hubby watches the kids.
Avatar m tn Often times, the very condition the drug is used for, is eventually a catalyst that increases the effects of the disorder it treats. For example, opiate ultimately cause opiate induced hyper algesia, opiate used for too long actually cause pain. Benzodiazapines relieve anxiety, taken long enough, they cause restlessness and anxiety. Sleep aids eventually cause insomnia. This is due to the neuro receptors and chemical production of the brain adjusting to the foreign chemical.
Avatar f tn All I could do was cry--I only got relief when I slept, and the feelings were immediately there upon waking. This went on for 4 or 5 days; around day 3 my mom suggested I take the Abilify again, so I did. I can't remember if I took 2.5 mg or a full 5, but either way, it made everything way worse. On top of the anxiety and depression, I felt completely disconnected from myself--like everything around me was just a dream, even just watching television.
Avatar f tn I have been on Abilify for about 3 months now, and it is currently the only medication I am on. It has worked wonders for my anxiety, and has helped somewhat with my depression. I can now socialize with ease whereas before I just had too much anxiety to deal with any social situations. Abilify has definitely made me more easygoing.
Avatar f tn gain and titrating up on Lamictal for obvious mood swings. Idk, Abilify worked well for me with Zoloft for approx 8 years. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn I have not noticed it from the Abilify. I love both meds though, they work great for me. I started the sweats from Wellbutrin and was put on Abilify later, so I do not know if it causes it too. All I know is I had to go get a powder puff and some powder and use it twice a day now! LOL.... good luck!!
918275 tn?1254068752 I would sleep up to 12+ hours then spend even more time on the couch in and out of sleep while trying to care for my two kids. I went back in for a check-up and told the doc about this and have been switched to Depakote and am on 500mg/day right now and not having any sleep issues (okay, except for my insomnia...). I was told that was a low Seroquel dose and I must have been super sensitive to the med, which I totally agree with.
Avatar n tn If you are noticing that you require less sleep or feel elated during the day, please speak with your doctor as this is usually not the desired side effect. Abilify is now being marketed for those with depression. But it was used in clinical trials for bi-polar disorder... This is a strong anti-psychotic so please be careful.
