It is perfectly legal for a physician, once a med has been approved by the FDA, to use it for off-label purposes. What isn't legal is for the manufacturer to talk the physician into using it for off-label purposes. So this med might be the best thing for you, and it might be completely inappropriate depending on where the professional got the info from. So you're right to question things, but as I said, that doesn't mean this isn't a good med for you.

Since October I have tried Lortab (3 strengths), gabapentin, Lyrica, Ultram, Relafen, Zonegran, and Trileptal. I am also on Cymbalta and Ambien. Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

As you can see alcohol use is not recommended for use with Zonegran in particular. but is usually not recommended for use with most medications. That is because it can increase or decrease the effectiveness of the medication or cause unwanted side effects. Personally, although I haven't found any literature that indicates that seizures will occur if you use it with Zonegran and Lamictal, I would avoid it completely or minimize its' usage.

Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I am using Pegasys 180mug q/wk as an off label use to treat Polycythemia Vera and it works well.I will have to take this med the rest of my life. I am aware of the short term side effects, but what about long term side effects? What can I expect years from now?

I believe the trials in the US involve mostly G1. Members of this form have experimented with it off-label (not for the prescribed purposes) with mixed results. It may improve the efficacy of interferon. don't know about liver stages or alt, ast. personally if i were to start treatment tomorrow i would add it.

I went off the Zonegran because my hair was falling out and my tachycardia spells stopped. At least I hope so. I also think my meds were causing a lot of my anxiety. I don't have this anxiety attacks since stopping seizure medication. I take butterbur for my headaches and this is suppose to increase the oxygenated blood to the brain. Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).

Are there any off label drugs which can be useful for herpes? I have read therapy with Tagamet and zinc may have some benefit but I cant find any good information on that to show my doctor. Also what about globulin or interfereon injections ? Are there other immune modulating drugs or treatments that can boost my t-cells against this virus to keep it down? Is there a type of doctor who may know more about this than my PCP ? Have you ever encountered this before in a healthy person?

Has anyone been approved for Olysio and Sovaldi off label and on Medicare? I failed traditional interferon/ribavirin, have fibrosis stage 2, and waiting for approval.

off label use of a medication is something you and your provider need to discuss. it might not be paid for by your insurance if you are using it for an off label use - just a fyi.

Grammy, I remember you saying your doc was prescribing off label for all his patients. Do you have any idea what reasons he is giving to insurance....as in key words or arguments he has to support the off label. Hope that makes sense. So tired and it's been a frustrating day. Does anyone know of any medication for complex seizures (L-temporal lobe) that won't make you feel like a zombie? I take Zonegran 200mg and I have absolutely no energy. I'm typically very active and moving all the time. I don't even have the energy to grocery shop or cook anymore. This is ridiculous! I also take Diamox, not sure if this has any affect on my energy level. Recently had a CBC done, and it came back normal. I just started these meds 4 months ago.

He is now able to start learning, and he came off of all medication except for 75 mg of zonegran. He was on 1400mg a day. It has made a huge difference. Hope this helps.
