Zonegran for epilepsy

Common Questions and Answers about Zonegran for epilepsy

zonegran

Avatar n tn As you can see alcohol use is not recommended for use with Zonegran in particular. but is usually not recommended for use with most medications. That is because it can increase or decrease the effectiveness of the medication or cause unwanted side effects. Personally, although I haven't found any literature that indicates that seizures will occur if you use it with Zonegran and Lamictal, I would avoid it completely or minimize its' usage.
Avatar f tn needless to say, he was fired and I went elsewhere. I went to a comprehensive epilepsy center and they found a medication that works really well for me and I have minimal side-effects. I've been on Topamax for 7 years and it's more effective than any other medication or combination or medications I've been on. I know it's really a drag and it truly *****. I take a lot of medication...I have epilepsy, schizophrenia/depression and allergies/asthma.

Avatar f tn I have suffered with epilepsy for 37 years, but my friend suffers moreso when periods were due and took Clobazam (Frizium) just around that time, so it helped her seizures.
Avatar m tn They were not sure if it was meningitis or epilepsy but the doctors said it had to be considered and treated as epilepsy due to having multiple seizures. I was eventually placed on Zonegran(200mg) daily and only took the medicine for about 4 months. I stopped cold turkey after that and havent taken it since. Do you think i actually have epilepsy and can anything still happen after being off of it for 4 years now?
Avatar n tn we took eeg which reported an abnormal sleep eeg record S/o localisation related epilepsy from left fronto central region. since then he was under medication for epilepsy starting from a dose of 100mg of carbamezine tablet which was raised to 250 mg in due course of 2 yrs. epilepsy recurred 3 to four times during the course in b/w 6 months duration and each episode lasted only for 2minutes with a slight eye and facial deviations to right.
Avatar n tn I have been taking different meds for gran mal seizures for about 17 years now, changing meds so as not to have to prolonged use on one. Currently I take a combo of Depakote & Lamictal. Dosages: AM - 750mg Depakote, 150mg Lamictal. Mid-Day 750 mg Deoakote. PM - same as AM. Anyway, back in the day I would have breakthroughs (seizures while on meds) quite a bit. I was also partying quite a bit too.
1303966 tn?1296740010 My son also has General and Partial Epilepsy. Looking back on the diary I kept for him the 1st time he started having what seemed to be Chiari symptoms was on the 8th of April last year. (We didn't know he had Chiari back then) He was playing football and scored a goal. Someone jumped on his back and within seconds he was on the floor with headache, back pain, heart palpitations and the shaking like cold you talk about.
Avatar f tn A friend said she took Zonegran for nerve pain and it helped her tremendously. My c ondition now is post herpetic neuraglia left over from shingles in the top of my head, forehead, eyebrow and left eye. have anyone tried Zonegran for post herpetic nueraglia (PHN) and did it help. The Lyrica is now affecting my eyes so I am desperate to get off it. Any answers/experiences are much appreciated. Thanks much.
Avatar f tn Zonegran is awesome! It really has worked great for my daugther with little to no side effects. Initially, there was some problems with being a little sleepy during the morning, but that wore off. It also did cause some appetite suppression in the morning, but that wore off too. I hope you find the right dosage and it works well for you too. Were you able to lose the weight you gained off of the Trileptal?
Avatar f tn t think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.

Avatar n tn Copy of the report---- This is a 16 channel EEG recording with additional channel for EKG monitoring.Bipolar montage utilized. Representative wakefulness, drowsiness, sleep were reviewed, as well as seizure and spike detection software events. Multiple seizure detection software events were associated with generalized high voltage slowing which is likely hypnagogic hypersynchrony. Spike detection software identified primarly movment myogenic artifact.
Avatar f tn seizures still are not controlled and she goes through cyles of increased seizures and memory loss and headaches and seizures seem to be getting more frequent and the keppra is terrible...and now they want to try lamitra or zonegran...every mediceine is so disruptive to her and do not control the seizures..and each change of pattern of her seizures gets more violent and i just don't know anymore ...
959034 tn?1253671476 Which meds are best for which seizures? What does everybody else taking? Is it working? Does it make you sleepy? Side effects? How much do you take? Do you like it? Was it the first one you tried? Did you have to try many to find one that you liked?
1303966 tn?1296740010 Has anyone with Chiari had success with Diamox? I'm currently on Zonegran for L-temperal lobe seizures, but the constant pressure and full feeling in my ears and mouth is driving me crazy. Told possible Meniers by ENT, but my Neuro thinks it's the Chiari. She wants to try Diamox, but wants to clear it with my Chiari specialist because of the Zonegran and risk of kidney problems (dehydration).
1303966 tn?1296740010 I started Zonegran in Nov. I saw my Neuro yesterday and she asked about any seizure activity. Of course I told her I had a seizure in March. She ordered a sleep deprived 1 hour EEG because she said she may need to change my medication if I'm still having epileptic activity. Is this really necessary? The complex seizures I was having when I first started having seizures were really bad, and this seizure I had in March was nothing compared to those.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Sorry to hear about everything! I know how you feel...have been on a number of different anti-seizure meds for 14 years now, and totally understand how you feel. If it helps, things usually improve somewhat after you've been on the meds for 5 or 6 months....kind of get used to the dosage, although it isn't easy to deal with all the side effects.
1303966 tn?1296740010 Hi, yes..this is not uncommon for those with chiari...it can be just the chiari...or u may have related issues..such as a thyroid condition, or a condition called POTS...... Do talk to ur Chiari Dr about this.
Avatar n tn many infectious diseases including Lyme disease, endocrine disorders, hypoglycemia, toxins, parasites, cancers, and many more. Some seizures can cause damage to the brain, hyperthermia (which can effect all organs of the body), can cause additional trauma, can cause cardiovascular abnormalities (abnormal heart function). If the seizure is due to an insulinoma, for example, the hypoglycemia that the insulinoma causes can be life threatening, if untreated.
629808 tn?1222245070 Hello, i am currently taking Lamictal. I have been absolutly fine for the 2 years i have been taking this medication for, until recently (3weeks). I have been having really bad jerking of the body and mouth. My doctor has told me that it is down to stress and anxiety, but i think its more to do with my Epilepsy.
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever heard of silent seizures or it can be also called internal epilepsy if u have any information it would be great.
Avatar m tn I know that Carbomazipine is one of the best medications to treat epilepsy, but if it does not removes seizures completely maybe it is not epilepsy. I know people who have epilepsy and they do not have seizures while on meds, or it is very rare occurrence. My question, if the tests did not show any abnormalities in the brain, can we say it is epilepsy? Why it is not treated by Carbomazepine (may or may not reducing number of episodes) ? What else it could be?
Avatar n tn My son had blackout on 15th sept 2010 at 7.30 am while getting ready for school. His ECG was normal,EEG slightly abnormal and MRI normal when tested on the same day.The doctor prescribed tablets for epilepsy. He had no other symptoms. We did not start him on tabs. Now after nine months again on 8th june 2011 at the same time in the morning he blacked out while getting ready on the carpet.
Avatar f tn You can get on the epilepsy foundation for some help on things. Another thing you may need for him to do is have him get on disability even if it's partial. Medicare will pay for medical bills and part D will pay for perscription coverage. I am on disability for my seizures and memory loss and now many other things. I am glad I have medicare it's my secondary insurance my husband provides primary ins. on me. I am glad I have the perscription coverage.
Avatar f tn He is now able to start learning, and he came off of all medication except for 75 mg of zonegran. He was on 1400mg a day. It has made a huge difference. Hope this helps.
