A friend said she took Zonegran for nerve pain and it helped her tremendously. My c ondition now is post herpetic neuraglia left over from shingles in the top of my head, forehead, eyebrow and left eye.
have anyone tried Zonegran for post herpetic nueraglia (PHN) and did it help. The Lyrica is now affecting my eyes so I am desperate to get off it.
Any answers/experiences are much appreciated. Thanks much.
Zonegran is awesome! It really has worked great for my daugther with little to no side effects. Initially, there was some problems with being a little sleepy during the morning, but that wore off. It also did cause some appetite suppression in the morning, but that wore off too.
I hope you find the right dosage and it works well for you too.
Were you able to lose the weight you gained off of the Trileptal?

I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful. I work for a health insurance company and I am on the computer for 8 hours a day. I have been unalbe to work a full time scheule for the past 3 months due to my migraines.
As you can see alcohol use is not recommended for use with Zonegran in particular. but is usually not recommended for use with most medications. That is because it can increase or decrease the effectiveness of the medication or cause unwanted side effects.
Personally, although I haven't found any literature that indicates that seizures will occur if you use it with Zonegran and Lamictal, I would avoid it completely or minimize its' usage.
Nine years ago the migraines began getting out of control and for the past 3 years have caused my health and way of life to severely decline. I need someone to tell me if the white matter lesions on my brain (not MS) are a sign of an upcoming stroke. Also, I have an aura daily of black lines and bursts of white lights. When I wake up in the middle of the night it flashes and is really beginning to irritate me.
I have been on so many of them, and the side effects are worse than the seizures. For example, the keppra I just got off of messed with my hormones, heart rate and blood pressure. I found out by taking it, that I have a mild case of neurally mediated syncope which the keppra elevated to the point where i had to be hospitalized. It also caused major weakness and fatigue to the point where I couldnt work. And believe it or not, that was the minimum dose.
Im also on Klonopin for trigeminal neuralgia so if it were anxiety, the Klonopin should be taking care of the hypersensitive skin. As of the moment, I have an elevated white count, have been sick for 2 weeks, have moments of full on tremors where I cannot control my hands, arms or legs. No one knows what this is either. So if anyone knows of a good doctor in Arkansas who might can help me, can you please let me know?

The thing is, i have been put on almost all of known anit seizure medications, none seem tobe as effective as it should be, i beleive at one time i was close to depression while on depakot, then i met a specialist who then put me on Zonegran, it worked for a couple years or so, then i moved to Las Vegas back in 03, it started again inspite the drugs, perhaps a combonation of stress, and lack of sleep could be the cause of it all?

Seizures are very complex and what works for one may not for another. What I have found is that all of the cases are so different, each child may have the same "type" of seizure but won't respond to the same med. They have never found a cause for his seizures. We even took him to John Hopkins a couple of times in hope of them finding some reason.
I'm sorry for what you and your little one is going through...

This is a 16 channel EEG recording with additional channel for EKG monitoring.Bipolar montage utilized. Representative wakefulness, drowsiness, sleep were reviewed, as well as seizure and spike detection software events. Multiple seizure detection software events were associated with generalized high voltage slowing which is likely hypnagogic hypersynchrony. Spike detection software identified primarly movment myogenic artifact.
They were not sure if it was meningitis or epilepsy but the doctors said it had to be considered and treated as epilepsy due to having multiple seizures. I was eventually placed on Zonegran(200mg) daily and only took the medicine for about 4 months. I stopped cold turkey after that and havent taken it since. Do you think i actually have epilepsy and can anything still happen after being off of it for 4 years now?
seizures still are not controlled and she goes through cyles of increased seizures and memory loss and headaches and seizures seem to be getting more frequent and the keppra is terrible...and now they want to try lamitra or zonegran...every mediceine is so disruptive to her and do not control the seizures..and each change of pattern of her seizures gets more violent and i just don't know anymore ...
