Zofran drug class

Common Questions and Answers about Zofran drug class

zofran

Avatar f tn I work in a pharmacy. Zofran is a class b drug. It is fine for the baby. Class c and up hurts the baby.
Avatar f tn You do realize that the commercials are not backed up medically? Zofran is a class b drug classified by the FDA. Do your research and not believe everything a fake lawyer puts on a commercial. They do commercials like that for every medication. There's always a risk associated with any drug. A doctor wouldn't prescribe it if the risks outweighed the benefits.
1468090 tn?1289093410 zofran is usually used to control nausea in cancer patients or for surgery. with pain meds, they usually give promethazine, which is what i take. so in answer to your question, no. i have not taken zofran to the best of my knoweldge.
Avatar f tn I actually had the same conversation with my dr yesterday. He explained they are hesitant because it is a class b 1 drug. Means basically there have been cases reported but no studies conducted. He refused to give it to me and said to suck it up and stick with maxalon which is a class a. I had it with all three previous pregnancies and no issues but now im worried and wont take it.
Avatar f tn We all sound like a bunch of drug addicts on here like "Yes! Yes! More Zofran! I need it" ... But its funny how much people who don't get morning sickness just don't get it. My insurance was being finicky about covering the Zofran so for like a week I stopped and I was so sick that I couldn't work and on Monday was in the ER. It really is a life saver especially if you are working or have other children to take care of and can't spend your days in bed.
Avatar f tn I am 20 weeks and have been on Zofran for about 9 weeks - I am a teacher and running out of class to puke just doesn't work with 2nd graders! I just take 1/2 of a pill in the morning and I'm good to go. I've gotten overly confident a few times and tried to go off of it, but every time I end up puking all day, so I'm stuck for a while. Luckily, I'm family friends with the head of a NICU and he has assured me that there are no side affects for baby - all of my appts.
Avatar f tn However I saw on the TV that zofran causes birth defects! So of course I did more research. Zofran is a class C drug. Meaning they don't really have proof either way [as to if it does or does not affect babies] it was originally made for people who get nausea while undergoing chemotherapy treatment. So here's my question. Is it safe? I'm not saying my 2 miscarriages were because of Zorn but who knows! Is there any other med you ladies have been prescribed? Did it help?
Avatar n tn I don't know why you would take both. Promethazine is another form of medication for nausea and it's side effects are HORRIBLE. Zofran is a first class drug (I've been using it for several months) and I don't see any reason for you to be on both. I would definitely question your doctor and demand some form of explanation. Plus always remember, just because it is prescribed, doesn't mean you have to take it.
Avatar f tn I am taking zofran and it's perfectly safe and a class b drug. The ads on tv are just lawyers trying to get money for a case they can't prove. The birth defects they state are the most common among all babies born no matter a family history or not. Don't be afraid to take it if you need it. If you are that afraid though, look up the study of 600,000 pregnant women in denmark in 2013 that proved it was safe.
Avatar f tn Ask for zofran ...
10874336 tn?1415760929 Have any of u mommys taken zofran for morning sickness? My doctor prescribed it to me but im nervous to take a medication while pregnant.
Avatar f tn I've lost 7 pounds since I've been pregnant due to the morning sickness and appetite loss, so my doctor prescribed me Zofran but I really don't want to take it. I'm sure y'all seen the commercials and I looked it up and it does cause those things. What should I do?
1454858 tn?1306784378 I did live on Phenergan though for 6-7 months of my pregnancy, taking it once or twice a day. Zofran itself is given a Class rating of a B, and since this is the generic, it sound be the same. It's perfectly safe to take. Many women swear by it and how much it helped them. I just didn't notice anything personally. If you need it, use it.
Avatar f tn It is a class b drug. They don't know for sure that there are no side effects to the baby but if you are puking and getting dehydrated that's bad for baby so they will use it. Its not meant for if you feel a little queesy.
Avatar f tn Zofran is like any other drug. It's a drug. There are tons of medications that doctors say are ok but as always, there are going to be risks. There are different classifications though and Zofran along with Tylenol and Sudafed are considered class "a" which means there is little risk to the baby. I have taken it with baby #2, #3 and now with baby #4. I never had a problem with missed doses because it was prescribed for every 4 hours as needed.
Avatar f tn Try tums for heartburn they are safe during pregnancy and zofran is a b class drug and is considered somewhat safe during pregnancy but there also has been birth defects but if you can't keep anything down then I would take the chance. Try gingerale and crackers first before putting your baby in any possible harm but if you can't keep anything down I think it would be worth taking zofran to stop the vomiting.
Avatar f tn Just saw a class action suit on tv against Zofran during pregnancy saying of your baby is or was born with a heart defect or birth defect to call them..I was prescriped yesterday for this medicine and took one today. Has anyone else taken them?
Avatar f tn I've been doing a lot of searching on the web about this drug and now I'm scared to death to take this drug!! My doctor keeps saying to take it if I'm sick/throwing up still and I've seen on other forums women who say they took it and there baby was fine but then on other websites u see all these lawsuits women have filled bc of the side affects and u see how its hasn't been approved for pregnant women!!!????
Avatar f tn I was taking Zofran my first pregnancy from 4 wks right when I had found out to 6-7 months and my daughter was perfectly healthy. So far this pregnancy I have been on it since 7 wks and still taking it at 22 wks and my baby boy is growing big and healthy. It is bs that they called you, I would of went off.
Avatar f tn Did you try Diclegis? It's a class A drug so completely safe with tons of research. My doc wanted me to take zofran with my first (Diclegis wasnt approved in the US yet) but I was too scared. I vomited just about every day of my pregnancy including the day my 9 pound daughter was born on her due date. Not pleasant but if you gain enough weight and don't get dehydrated might be worth just trying to deal with/ make the best of it.
Avatar f tn Unisom is a pregnancy class A drug whereas Tylenol is a pregancy class C meaning that Unisom is safer. Additionally Tylenol comes with a black box warning since it causes acute liver failure in large doses esp when combined with alcohol. In other words if you need it take it. I'm sure. You have employed all other strategies if you are nervous.
12103503 tn?1423448886 There are "possible side effects" from any drug but it is classified as a safe to use in pregnancy drug in the drug guide. They wouldn't prescribe it as much as they do if there was a serious Worry. I've been taking it this whe time and all sonograms have turned up fine- and in a few weeks I expect to see a healthy perfect baby girl. If you're sick enough it's prescribed then you should take it.
Avatar f tn has anyone taken zofran before ?
9523089 tn?1414211966 Baby's are sometimes born with a heart murmur. Its a common thing. I had it. But this is actually something that can cause heart defects cleft lip and cleft pallet. Its not on recall but can be the cause of these things. Its all over the place right now.
10426661 tn?1410354439 Yes! Take it! It had saved me this pregnancy so far. It's an anti nausea pill. It works wonders.
Avatar n tn Hey I just watched a commercial saying zofran can cause a clef pallet.
Avatar f tn It was found out that metal shavings were being put into it and sadly the guy just pleaded guilty and he says he knew about it for a year. Also the fda has made warnings about zofran since 2013. because physicians started giving a drug to pregnant women that was meant for cancer patients so they did a study and found out it was causing cleft palate and all those other defects to unborn children that didn't have that genetic disorder in the family.
Avatar n tn Hey I just watched a commercial about the drug zofran it said that this can lead to my baby having a cleft pallet.
