I am 3 months pregnant and am prone to sinus infections and it seems the only antibiotic that works for me is biaxin. I have a sinus infection now, is it safe to take biaxin 2 pills together for ten days?

Dear Doctor, I have made 2 mistakes: the first was receiving unprotected oral sex from a CSW (a female, I am male) while intoxicated, the second was trying to self-treat with antibiotics. I took 1.5 g. of Zithromax and began 7 days of Doxy (this was prescribed, for a sinus infection), 2x100mg/day about eight hours after the event. Next day, in a panic, convinced that 1.5 of zithromax would not be enough, I took 2 g of Biaxin at once. I plan to take 500 mg/day for the next 3 days.

ve taken since April are Avelox, Zithromax, Clindamycin and Biaxin (all of which I haven taken previously over the years w/ no problems). Each time I take one of these the symptoms are the same: after a few days of taking the med I start to experience itchiness, tightness, pressure inside my chest, like the sensation that something is in there. I think he/she should have probably went in the direction of a broad-spectrum antibiotic, i.e. Amoxicillin vs. Zithromax. I have seen Zithromax ordered for Strep Throat, but not that often.

That being said, I have taken Zithromax a bunch of times as well as Cipro, with no big problems. The Zithromax seems to make my heart beat a little bit faster but that could just be me and worrying about it.

Definately go back to the doctor for a stronger prescription. Zithromax, in my opinion, doesn't work all that well. I am a nurse and work in an urgent care where it seems like people who are treated with Zithromax always end up coming back a week later still feeling sick. Go get some Augmentin or Biaxin XL--you'll feel better soon!

s reaction to generic vs brand name meds, such as Biaxin/clarithromycin, but there are some instances when it can occur because of tiny differences between the specific chemical structure of the two medications. I'm puzzled that your doc doesn't seem to be jumping on this situation and trying different meds in case it IS this specific drug you are reacting to. And also I'm puzzled that he doesn't switch you to another antibiotic altogether.

I started taking Biaxin 2 days ago for a horrible throat infection. Since then my muscles have been weak and crampy (especially my calves with restless leg syndrome as well). I also am having horrible stomach cramps and nausea and I get an overwhelming metallic taste in my mouth (almost like bile actually). And the insomnia last night was unbearable. I haven't had insomnia in over a year. Has anyone else experienced this with Biaxin?

Hi Everyone! It's been a long time since I've been posting but wanted to check-in and say Hi to everyone. Went to see my LLMD today and got the results of my latest round of blood work. My co-infection of erlichiosis is still not cleared and hadn't gotten better from the prior round of tests. My IGG on the lyme was better though showing less positive bands. I've been on the same meds (Amox and Biaxin) since my lyme journey began back in January.

My last question, is if I should rule out NGU based on my experience? Would the azithromycin, biaxin, or Erythromycin clear it up if I had it? would it have cleared up on its own after the several months? I only ask b/c its the only thing I didn't test for, and seems to be a culprit a lot. I am so paranoid and focused on all areas that I think all are signs of burning.

Clarithromycin (Biaxin in the US) is chemically similar to azithromycin (Zithromax), one of the standard drugs for several STDs. Although it has not been studied extensively against STDs, it undoubtedly is effective in either treating or preventing all the infections that respond to azithromycin. In the dose you were give, you were protected from chlamydia, nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), gonorrhea, and probably syphilis.

they are cyst-busters. I was on biaxin for that purpose (along with another med to kill the bugs after they came out of the cyst), but had a reaction to it after several months; so the dr switched me to flagyl and a different antibiotic. It's a fair question why the dr would give you two cyst busters. Sounds like a lot. Good luck with the new job!! Sounds like a good one.

Saw my LLMD in San Francisco on Friday and he said that my Erlichoisis is cleared but wants me to stay on my meds (Ketek & Cipro) for another 30 days. My testing for lyme is still coming up positive and there were more positive bands and stronger ones than my last test three months ago. He said that the meds I'm currently are on do not treat lyme. After this course of meds, I am switching to Amox & Biaxin to begin treating the lyme. My CD57 shot up from like 20 to 87 though!

I was taking Biaxin 500mg twice a day for a week and then took the rpr two days later. could this affect the results in any way?

Also, because he saw I didn’t seem convinced, he just gave me 2g of Zithromax (8 tablets) which he said would take care of Gono and Chlamydia if I had it. I took it in one shot. I came to this reputed site for a second opinion. i) Does this event carry any risk for HIV or any STD? Would you recommend any testing? I’m thinking of doing a HIV Duo test at 28 days and a VDRL ii) Assuming I had a RECTAL infection from this, would 2g of Zithromax clear Gono and Chlamydia?

- HIV at 7 weeks, 15 weeks and 9 months - STD test for Clymidia and gonnerea at about 8 months after (this was a urine test) I was concerned cause I peed about 1 hour before testing Since these exposure I have been on Biaxin for 10 days at 500mg twice a day, Amoxicillian 500mg 3 times a day ( I have been on this twice as I have a saliva gland issue for a number of years. I was also on Cipro 500 twice a day (I think) for a sinus infection. All test were negative.

My doc perscribed Biaxin xl 2x 500 and prednisone 50mg 4 days if needed. Last night I was so bad I took the pred at 8pm. This morning I took the biaxin at 6am. It's been about 8 hours and my heart has sped up from about 70 to 85-90 for about an hour and won't come down. I'm afraid to take my next dose of prednisone but I've been on short bursts before with no issue. Is a resting heart rate around 90 something to be worried about?
